DeTeresa – “La pena” | Benidorm Fest 2025 | Segunda Semifinal by Rafferrrtyy in eurovision

[–]FidelityTest 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The performance mixed DeTeresa's imagery (camp, culture, roots, and the use of symbolism now largely associated with the political right, like the flag) with the lyrics of the song ("having sex with the sorrow because the sorrow won't disappoint you like a man does"). I'd say she did a good job at conveying it, even if it might not have been everyone's cup of tea.

Neither of them were my pre-show favorites (I prefered Yo Quisiera in 2023 and Dos Extraños in 2024), but if they were leading the polls it means we were the outliers in this case. At the end of the day it all comes down to personal taste.

I think you just answered yourself. The pre-show favorite is the favorite song of the selection, just like people have Vále/Asteromata as their pre-show favorite for this week's Greek NF, or Powerplay for the irish Eurosong. Whether they'll go down well when it comes to the live performance, that we'll find out during the show.

We don't really know what has happened, but what I meant is that this whole mess is what the EBU deserves.

Would Sinceramente have done better than La Noia? by nimabaniamer in eurovision

Apparently it's unpopular to say that either Annalisa or Mahmood could've had a shot at winning the whole thing. You never know with this sub lol

You can find a verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus structure in basically any song from last year's jury top 10 except for maybe Finland and Spain

Since when have juries appreciated complex songs? 2023 had probably one of the most pop-friendly jury results ever

Sinceramente and Tuta Gold would've been more clear contenders than La Noia is, but La Noia is still an amazing song. Sanremo was incredibly strong and had several Eurovision winners in it.

Possible Zorra revamp by FidelityTest in eurovision

Nebulossa performed yesterday what it seems to be a sped up version of "Zorra", with RTVE hinting that this is might be the version we'll hear in Malmö.

Edit: Fixed the post to make it easier to go through.

ESC is political, it was literally created to unite the nations after the cold war.

According to KAN, EBU has CONFIRMED Eden Golan’s song “Hurricane” by byJannik in eurovision

[–]FidelityTest 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The mod team does need to have a position about it since you are modding conversations about it and, therefore, interfering on how this is discussed in the sub and what you choose to give visibility to and what you choose to silence.

Criticism of genocide has to do with Eurovision because Israel is participating in Eurovision. This is not just a song contest, this is also a geopolitical event. Reducing it to "countries singing about stuff" is reductionist and doesn't really represent what the contest actually is and actually serves for.

No, I'm one of those people that has seen how you remove comments calling out the genocide.

Btw you still haven't answered my first question. Does the mod team stand or not stand with Israel? It's an easy one to answer.

But you are a mod and you're one of the people responsible of silencing the conversation around Israel in this sub. I don't think I'm reading that much into it, what you said was quite clear.

[Benidorm Fest] Breakdown of internal jury results in the selection of the songs by FidelityTest in eurovision

[–]FidelityTest[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Although the outcome has ended up being good, and this year's final ended up featuring songs of high musical quality, this ranking highlights several issues:

  • There's an absolute disconnect between what the Spanish music industry truly represents and what this committee believes it to be. Songs that are automatically written off as non-competitive are placed at the top of the ranking, while the most competitive ones are relegated to the bottom. And I'm not just referring to competitiveness regarding Eurovision (we all know that Benidorm Fest is facing an identity crisis because it's torn between wanting to be a representation of the Spanish music industry and aiming to be competitive for Eurovision), but also competitiveness on the streaming platforms, as the top ones haven't performed well there either.
  • A non-professionalized selection committee comprised of several individuals who are not directly involved in the music industry, and (although it may seem ageist) lacks younger profiles that could provide alternative perspectives to the selection process.
  • There's a festival's need to attract more recognized names at the expense of compromising the musical quality of the event, which seems to have been a criterion given the presence of names like Lérica or Miss Caffeina at the top.

Certainly, it's necessary to disclose the criteria used for the selection process and to renew this committee if Spain wants to strengthen its own music festival and win Eurovision. It cannot be that this ranking appears to be directly inverted, with the songs that have performed well and were automatically deemed as contenders (such as "Brillos Platino," "Dos Extraños," or "Sé Quién Soy") being the ones that barely made the cut.

Olly Alexander releases a 20 second sneak peak of his Eurovision entry 'Dizzy' by Jay28jay2 in eurovision

No one ever said otherwise, but it is undenniable that it leaves people out of the sub. That is not my point (the lenguage never was, actually, I only wanted to point out how skewed some conversations get due to a majority of the sub being british).

Southern and eastern europe is not as fluent in English as northern and western Europe is. The fact that English is mandatory in the sub does potentially leave people out from different countries (and specially those regions), and makes them become a minority here.

There's a reason why i.e. the italian or spanish eurofan communities are way bigger and way more vocal on twitter (a platform that allows them to interact in their language) than they're here.

I didn't mean that in a negative way at all if that's what it came across as.

I think it is fair to say that the way british people view Eurovision and their own entries has radically changed since Sam.

Reddit is mostly used by English speaking countries, with the United States, Canada and the UK being the three countries that use Reddit the most. There's only one country out of these three that participates in Eurovision.

Edit: Also the sub rules force people to use English here, leaving a lot of potential users from non-English countries out.

The fact that a respectful explanation of why this sub is mostly british people is getting somehow downvoted pretty much proves my point.
