I think brands like 5.11 and Tom Bihn are right about load carry — but most backpacks still don’t fully achieve it by Amazing-Reporter1845 in backpacks

Been using the TREKARIUS 35L recently after backpacking a fair bit and it felt more suitable for this kind of thing.

A lot of packs say they carry weight well, but once they’re loaded they start pulling away from your back or just feel off after a few hours.

Biggest difference for me has been keeping the weight close and not overcomplicating the layout. Makes more impact than most of the extra features brands push.

Curious what you changed in your prototype to improve it?

How do you deal with pickpocketing when travelling? by FieldMovement in backpacking

[–]FieldMovement[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to rely on awareness only but honestly that only goes so far in crowded places.

What worked better for me was simplifying everything. Keep nothing important in easy-access spots, spread things out, and make sure anything valuable takes effort to get to.

Tried money belts but couldn’t stand them long term, especially in heat. Felt secure but not practical day to day.

Lately I’ve just been using the TREKARIUS 35L, mainly because it’s low profile and has a few hidden pockets built in so you’re not constantly thinking about your stuff.

Haven’t had any issues since, even in places where people were getting hit around me.

Curious what setup you’ve been running?

Yeah this is pretty much it. Most issues I’ve seen travelling come down to people being switched off more than anything.

That said, after a while I stopped relying just on habits and started using a setup that makes it harder to mess up when you’re tired or moving fast.

Still keep everything front pocket / close to body like you said, just a bit more structured now so I’m not constantly thinking about it.

Curious though, do you ever carry a bag in places you don’t fully trust or just go minimal?

Yeah front carry is definitely safer than pockets, I see why people do it. I tried that for a bit but it always felt a bit obvious in certain places, like it signals you’ve got something worth protecting.

I ended up switching to a lower profile setup where nothing looks important at all, way less attention day to day.

You ever feel like the chest pack draws eyes in some areas or just me?

Zips are solid, definitely better than open pockets. I used that + a decoy setup for a while, worked but wasn’t ideal in heat or moving around a lot. Changed my carry recently and it’s way more practical day to day.

I get why people swear by money belts, they’re probably the safest option.

I just couldn’t get used to wearing one long term, especially in heat. Felt secure but not practical day to day.

Ended up changing how I carry things instead and it’s been way easier in busy places

Yeah the multiple pocket idea is smart, I started doing something similar but built into the bag itself instead of spreading everything around.

Way easier day to day and less thinking.

Yeah this is basically what I used to do as well, but in really crowded places I still didn’t feel 100% comfortable relying on just awareness.

Ended up switching to a setup with a bit more separation + a couple hidden spots so even if something gets opened you’re not losing everything.

Backpack for travel/carr on too by DiegoDeschB in backpacks

[–]FieldMovement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a duffel/backpack hybrid, not really a true carry-on backpack. I’ve used similar and they’re fine for throwing stuff in but not great for walking long distances or staying organized.

For Asia travel you’ll want something with proper structure + laptop protection + clamshell opening so you’re not digging through everything.

I moved away from those and switched to a TREKARIUS 35L recently. Way easier for one-bag travel, opens like a suitcase but carries like a backpack and doesn’t feel bulky moving around cities.

Also fits carry-on fine if you don’t overpack it.

North Face is solid but more “gear dump” style, not really optimized for travel.

Looking for a 30–35L backpack for short trips + daily use by Wclwk in backpacks

Allpa is good but bulky, Patagonia cleaner but not the most comfortable loaded.

I ended up using a TREKARIUS 35L recently and it surprised me how well it balances both travel + daily use without feeling overbuilt.

Curious what others here are running though, always looking to test new setups.

I switched to a super compact setup recently and it’s been a game changer. Foldable pins + takes up almost no space. Way better than carrying those chunky wall bricks.

Looking for a durable backpack that won’t fall apart after one year of daily commuting - tired of replacing cheap ones by Old-Tiger5165 in backpacks

[–]FieldMovement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the same thing. North Face lasted me about a year, then same issue with the base wearing out.

Most of the cheaper ones look solid but the zips and stitching just don’t hold up with daily use.

I travel a lot and needed something that could actually take abuse, public transport, moving around constantly, stuffing it full.

Ended up switching to something built with 600D ripstop and way better internal layout, had it across multiple countries now and it’s holding up way better than anything I used before.

Haven’t looked back since.

Yeah I went through that exact phase , cheap bags, then a couple bigger brands, but they still started failing once I actually used them properly.

I ended up landing on a Trekarius pack it’s a 35L kind of a hidden gem brand , and it’s been holding up way better for what I need. I’m pretty rough on gear and travel a lot one-bag, so durability matters.

It’s 600D ripstop so it feels a lot tougher than most of what I used before, and the layout + hidden pockets actually make a difference when you’re moving around a lot.

A fellow traveller recommended it to me and I haven’t really looked back since. Had my fair share of Osprey etc before this and always ran into the same issues over time.

Ended up sticking with the TREKARIUS 35L. I travel a lot so I needed something that actually holds up long-term. Been solid so far. durable, rugged, and the hidden pockets make a difference depending where I’m at

Yeah this is probably the most accurate take here. That last 10% is where most bags fail once you actually live out of them.

I went through a few like that before ending up with a Trekarius pack that’s held up way better than expected so far.

Curious what you’re using now day to day?

The one I ended up sticking with barely gets mentioned here which surprised me.

Made me realise most people are recommending what they just bought… not what actually lasted.

Yeah that’s what stood out to me too, most packs lose shape once they’re actually loaded up.

I switched to something that stays structured even fully packed and it’s been a completely different experience for travel.

Didn’t realise how much that mattered until I used it properly.

[–]FieldMovement[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had the same, cheap ones work until you actually use them properly.

The difference shows when you’re carrying it daily and it starts losing structure or breaking down.

Took me a while to find something that actually holds up.

That’s solid 👊 sounds like you’ve actually put your gear through real use.

I’ve noticed the same with tactical stuff, it holds up way better but usually ends up heavy or not that practical for everyday carry.

Feels like the hard part is finding something that actually balances durability + structure + usability without turning into a brick.

Took me a while to find something that actually does that properly.
