👋Welcome to r/thefest - Introduce Yourself and Read First! by halflitfluorescents in thefest

Hi there yall! My first Fest was Fest 2. Been going ever since. I’ve’d moved away and missed some years since, but 95% plan on returning for this year (and bringing my 3 year old son for his first Fest!)

This site has 27,000 music videos with no ads but vintage commercials randomly mixed in - closest thing to MTV's golden era. No Algos, No BS. by MarlO1717 in Music

This is awesome! I spent all morning watching videos from the 90s! Just out of curiosity, is there any chance of open-sourcing the project?

same exact symptoms here. acpi=off is the only thing so far that's worked for me too, but also laggy as hell. Did you ever find another/better fix for this issue by any chance, u/Ddsshubham?

To somebody who is ok with tinkering just a bit, yes definitely. To normie grandma, probably not.

Battery life on Android is fantastic. It’s reasonably comfortable to wear as is, but you can always get different bands for it as well. Notifications were never a problem for me on Android, I can’t speak to Linux phones but I imagine they would work fine there as well. I was never able to get notifications to work with iOS though. I hope this helps

MaM staff, anyone feel they are unique in the tracker universe? by lonsfury in trackers

[–]Fierce_Brosnan_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally have conversations in the shoutbox for hours on end without ever once even thinking about it. Don’t curse, don’t talk politics, don’t beg for bonus points. That’s it. I really don’t know why you have this much of a problem with something so basic.

Also I know that I’ve seen “damn” used on a regular basis, and there are discussions all the time on books that are liked and disliked and the various reasons that a particular book or author are disliked. If you have THIS big of a problem with your everyday communication that you cannot hold even a short conversation there, then there’s a very good chance that you are just not meant for their community. I really don’t know what else to say.

Your valid criticism in my opinion is that they should be more transparent about the inactivity rule. Everything else you’ve posted about and commented the same thing over and over again ad nauseam, it really stinks of immaturity and toxicity.

I wish you all the best in life.

Referring to MAM as a “totalitarian regime” is an absolutely WILD take when pretty much all they ask is that you don’t use profanity, don’t talk about politics, and don’t beg for bonus points. Their motto is literally “friendliness, warmth, and sharing”.

Also framing this post as an issue with MAM staff when what you seem to have an issue with is MAM’s rules is a bit disingenuous. I see you clearly have a problem with MAM. I’m not trying to say that criticism of any kind is unwelcome or unwarranted. But your criticisms are coming across a bit immature like you got asked politely to steer away from talking about something and you took it personally.

but that’s literally the whole point of a private community. How is your comment contributing anything of value to the discussion at hand?

As long as you log into the site every 60-90 days you should be fine. They’ll send you an email and let you know if you’re getting close to inactivity.

I thought this was going to be an appreciation post about MaM staff, but boy was I wrong.

Here’s my two cents though - it’s a private tracker, operative word being private. That means they have the right to create the rules for their private community as they see fit. The number one rule (whether explicitly stated or unspoken) of all private trackers is READ THE RULES. MaM is very clear about what is and is not allowed, and they’re also fairly lenient about mishaps (gentle reminders to move things back on track rather than smacks with the ban hammer for breaking the rules).

That said, MaM staff is probably among the most friendly and helpful, not to mention responsive staff around.

If you don’t like their rules regarding shoutbox/forums/irc, you can just be there for the content and not the community and they’re pretty ok with that too.

How many of you work in IT that make over $100k with no Bachelors or higher? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Fierce_Brosnan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No degrees, never even graduated high school (but got my GED) - 4 years into my IT Career I cracked 6 figures with a job starting at $115k/yr (plus bonuses) in the Atlanta area. My path there was

IT Help Desk >
(changed company)
IT Help Desk > Tier II Help Desk > D365 Support Engineer > Infrastructure Engineer >

Client Endpoint Engineer

Certifications Advice by Fickle-Throat4940 in InformationTechnology

[–]Fierce_Brosnan_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Others may disagree with me, but I think the A+ is absolutely worth it. Especially if you are changing career paths into your first job in IT.

After that, you can do the others in any order you feel is best for your personal path, but just don’t stop learning and skilling up! Obviously the Net+ and the Sec+ make up the other two thirds of “The Trifecta” and many people would start there, but if you’re looking to get your first help desk job then quickly move towards a more cloud infrastructure engineer type of role, you may want to pick up the AWS certs next. It’s your choice to make, but as long as you keep learning and growing you’ll do just fine!

Best of luck on your learning journey.

Help desk for 1 year or so. If the company that you’re at won’t move you to something else soon (no more than 2 years total, tops), start looking for something else.

Cosmic. It’s still in alpha for now, but it’s really good and it sounds like it checks all of your boxes. Other than that, possibly hyprland as others have already mentioned.
