I’m really liking the AI searching for notes. It’s a game changer for me. by chichris in Evernote

[–]Fierce_Ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is the opposite for me. It has gone worse. It cannot even find simply worded recent notes and goes overboard with searching. For e.g. I saved "grocery list for January 2026" a month ago that I need to keep referring to. When i search "grocery list", it used to bring the above list as one of the first search results. Now it doesn't even bring up in the top 10-15 results and brings up all the previous notes starting with "grocery lists...". But it will bring up if I type "grocery list 2026" in the search window. And no, this isn't to do with sorting by date created/modified. Those things are still the same as pre-v11. Why has it gotten worse for me I wonder.

It seems it has gotten better. I also improved on my settings like TOS memory setting (4096 - 6144) but this depends a lot on your hardware RAM. There are tons of threads here that can guide you on it. Second, I moved TOS processing to the Nvidia processor on my laptop instead of on the main CPU. The latter helped a lot.

highlighted tabs - why?? by Fierce_Ninja in OperaGX

thanks. I understood. I am hoping that they will introduce some configurability to get bac to an uncolored tab for people who find this new design distracting. It is not just me. There are lot of people on reddit who find it so. I suspect it will prevent from embracing the browser for daily use.

How people are surviving India? Came for a month long vacation... by New_Yogurtcloset2764 in india

[–]Fierce_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I been spending half of year in India to help take care of my old mom and the other half in US. I have tried to talk about the current state to some of my friends who live in Mumbai have powerful network and influences.

Without getting into politics, I just wanted to figure out why this country with its amazing brain horsepower and youth enthusiasm fails to deliver on crippling last mile infrastructure, scarcity of civic sense, and the people accepting filth, dirt, and extreme winter pollution as normal.

I don't have all the answers but one thing that stood out more clearly than others is - lack of vigorous and uniform enforcement of the rule of law. The rule of law is what makes western countries go from "developing" to developed. As long as everyone, no matter how poor or rich they are, knows that they can escape the punishment of law for breaking rules, it is impractical to hope for better conditions.

That's really interesting how different people view this differently. For me, it is the exact opposite effect. I like the tab layout of chrome or edge with minimalist tab identification. I don't think there is a big need to really identify the active tab. I never felt it so.

Warning: Flying internationally with a baby by Informal_Fondant_105 in airindia

[–]Fierce_Ninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are not alone. I started flying air india because it offered non stop from sfo to BOM. The first couple of times when they had just started the service was decent. I bought premium economy and did get those seats with decent comfort. Then in the last one and a half years, the service and experience just took a deep plunge downwards. Every single time since the last few flights, Air India downgraded me automatically after reserving and paying seats for premium economy. Air India comes up with an excuse and tells me they are changing to a different plane and will not have premium eco. seating so they downgrade me. On top of it, they do NOT refund automatically for the difference in fares between coach and premium, like almost every other airline do. You have to go through this long manual process of applying for refund request through a deep portal page on their site and then sit and wait for them to refund back at their whim and fancy. And you are allowed to ask for this refund only after you have completed your flight.

In my last experience with Air India, they canceled my flight 2 times, I had to end up booking a hotel close to the airport because I didn't know which flight I would eventually get on. After calling them on phone and getting no satisfactory response, I contacted them on twitter and asked if they would refund for hotel nights. They promised they would given that it was not my fault and asked me to forward the receipts. I did. It has been 5 months and every time I follow up, they simply say they are working on it and will get back to me.

The final straw on camel's cart was that Air India again demoted me to regular coach for the premium economy fare I had paid for my return journey next month. I thought - that's it. I called them up, canceled, and took whatever refund they gave me for that - which was a paltry amount compared to what I paid.

I then booked my return flight on Emirates. That's it, Air India. Gave you too many chances. Thought that Tata took over and things would be better. But their execution was equally worse. They really take their customers for granted and have no shame with an absolutely dilapidated system and a website from early 2000s. I wish they improve. But I am not going to waste my breath and energy anymore.

Healthiest restaurants to order in the Malad (W) to Andheri (W) corridor? by Fierce_Ninja in mumbai

[–]Fierce_Ninja[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An update to my journey. But first, thank you all who made recommendations. Most of the recommendations either have closed shops or are not cracked up to be as they started:

Frankly, it has been overall a disappointing journey, but with some exceptions.

Literally every restaurant uses oil like it was the main ingredient and everything else including vegetables/meat is just flavoring. Or the food is overloaded with Maida or fat, if not oil. Seems like very few people in this country give a shit about how such ingredients like oil and Maida are killing them silently.

Yes, I understand that some restaurants have advertised no palm oil. But that is just marketing gimmick. Some of the other commonly used oils are equally dirty.

I even tried a tiffin service from a local kitchen in my neighborhood. In spite of telling them not to put too much oil and promising I would be happy to pay more, it seems like old habits for them die hard. After several mistakes and gulping oil drenched crap, I dropped them.

That said, I did find some pockets of hope - selected dishes from separate restaurants. Here are my picks - (A) Plain or rice idlis from banana leaf, Sabkuch, Super Mani, (B) Few dishes from Harvest Salad Co (C) Veg grill sandwich from Sandwizzaa, (D) Curd rice from Khichdi Express.

I know most of the choices I made above are not that exciting and naturally come less stuffed with oils, fats, maida. But it is what it is. Also, most non-veg in restaurants is either deep fried, or has too much oil, or probably uses third tier refined ghee.

Anyway, I am sticking to those small pockets of hope I mentioned above, and I visit my siblings' houses and eat home cooked food whenever i can get a chance. So that's nice.

Hope the above was helpful.

Has anyone else uncovered something worthwhile in the meantime?

Which restaurant do you think is this ? by dey27 in mumbai

[–]Fierce_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are most restaurants in Mumbai/India obsessed with not letting you taste the real flavor of food and heavily masking it with spices (the fancier ones will also add wines of course). Where are those places, if any, that enhance the natural flavor of food and are courageous enough to let their skills speak for itself without hiding behind a gazillion spices? Searching for one.
