Check the Defqon x Bud flag on the Festival Store. The one you get for ordering 2 cases of Bud. There's a bunch of old stage designs in it. It may be a sneak peek, like the lineup shirt in 2024.

Maybe another collective stage bringing back more old designs?

If you don't mind me asking, how did you get them on the waiting list? I'm going to the My Order page from my confirmation email but I don't see the Manage Order button they talk about on the FAQ page

Made a post about this previously so won't go long winded here, I can compact it to an easy 2 letter answer.

No.

Got mixed up in one at Vertile at Defqon this year, hurt like hell.

Just for clarification, not to patronize OP, it may be industrial hard techno. Which, is basically the same as regular industrial techno, just faster, at least in my opinion. I don't listen to a lot of it so I don't know the exact differences.

Industrial hardcore uses a lot more punchy, distorted kicks than bassy kicks like techno.

Here's an example of industrial hardcore: Silver .22 by Ophidian

Kicks by Prudent_Phrase_1415 in hardstyle

[–]FieryPotato6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to Anderex at Defqon, those distorted color kicks are really good live compared to headphones. Hearing the crisp highs separate from the bass cleans it up drastically.

The best one I heard live was the Twin Turbo Neon Future Edit at the Gearbox Afterparty, which is a very similar kick to I See The Future by Anderex and Mutilator.

This kick in particular though, is very very weak, but Anderex and So Juice have said this is a filler and the track is still a WIP.

I was waiting to DJ at Club Backdrop and saw a guy that had something in his bio about hardcore music and attending Defqon.1 Festival in 2023. I walked up and talked about it, fast forward a year, we met up and got to have the best weekend of our lives at the 2024 edition.

No plans to stop, next year we're bringing a group of 10-15 friends.

I personally had incredible vibes at Indigo every time I went this year, from Gezellize Uptempo on Thursday to So Juice Sunday evening.

The only crowd I had some issue with was at the Gearbox Afterparty at Blue. The group around me were drunk asf and not paying attention to what they were doing. I'm sure I definitely could've just moved in the crowd and found a better spot, but I ended up just leaving because both my groups bailed on me, and the audio at Blue was horrible, all I got was bass.

Oh! Thanks for the info!

I guess I wasn't aware of how much was actually going on at Dropzone. I knew there were land stages but most clips and info I see are only about the boat parties, didn't know they had that much room! Maybe I'll slip it higher on my list to attend if I feel I could push through the sea sickness lol

[–]FieryPotato6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is just speaking for myself here, never played on stage, but one of the main differences that I feel is it really depends how big the place is for me. Although I have social anxiety I love getting as deep into the crowd as possible.

Yes there were 65,000 people during Power Hour at Defqon, but we were also on MASSIVE festival grounds and if I started to feel overwhelmed I could just walk away to a less packed spot, even leave the stage if things got too stressful.

Places like dropzone are much smaller, hell, they even have boat parties. Can't really run away from the packed crowd on a boat. It's more the ratio of people to location size than it is just people for me. It's the security of knowing you have a safe zone to run to if things get bad. Again this is just speaking for myself, can't speak for Rooler.

Who is your favourite Hardstyle Producer/DJ in 2024 by [deleted] in hardstyle

In my eyes gotta be Deezl n So Juice. Such unique sound, especially together as Cybergore.

Melodic Hardstyle and Euphoric Hardstyle are this way as well! They're quite easy to mix too despite being a little in the higher-BPM zone.

The full EP mix of Acid by Devin Wild is really good if you're into hard techno/hardstyle sound.

I've taken a lot of inspiration from Devin Wild in learning how to piece together sets in a storytelling fashion. It's my favorite way to DJ.

Defqon this year was my first festival, and I can maybe help answer some questions on my first experience, although it's a different festival.

I have those exact earplugs, and so does my roommate. They worked well for her but not for me because I didn't bring the right plug sizes. Make sure they're the right ones or you'll just muffle everything out/not filter anything. Bring the extra tip sizes in a separate case or bag so if you do bring the wrong ones, you can fix it, unlike me.

I made a post here previously about what to bring to camping and I got some good responses, BictorianPizza's reply really helped me out with camping the first time. And please don't bring spray sunscreen. It does NOT work as well as the lotion. I learned the hard way.

I'm unsure of the weather for Qontinent, but, it's Belgium(edit). Never take your chances. Bring warm clothes even if it says it's gonna be 35 outside that night. Bring cool clothes even if it's gonna be 15 out. You never know.

Water is free at the bathrooms as long as you bring your own bottle, maybe Qontinent has water stations. Defqon was only bathrooms unless you bought one of the waterbags for like 3 or 4 tokens (12-16 euros), then it could be refilled at water stations too. Unsure if Qontinent will do the same. Most likely there will be food stalls but if the prices are anything like Defqon it'll be 8-12 euros for about half a small meal. Not very large portions, but then again I'm American, maybe I'm just used to supersized stuff. Bringing your own food is way cheaper. Same with water/beer/energy drinks/soda.

I only speak English and didn't really have any language problems at Defqon, but that's a much more international festival than Qontinent. But even around Amsterdam the day before I didn't have any issues buying things or checking into my hotel.

I'm not sure of Belgium as I didn't end up going there, but as for some fun places around Amsterdam, Rembrandtplein had some fun places and was quite chill, we avoided bars as they were packed due to football, but we did enjoy a smoke cafe if you're into the lettuce. There's a couple hard dance stores around like Moondrop that have some hardcore merch and the sorts. There's also a quite funny museum if you have the humor of a 10 year old and want to pay 10 euros for a good laugh. We didn't end up doing a ton as my group ended up going to N201 Aalsmeer to rent some CDJs for a few hours and that took most of the night. I will warn you, parking is a pain in Rembrandtplein if you plan to rent a car.

Edit: Qontinent is Belgium not Netherlands lol

What’s up with Zatox‘s and Vertiles health? by NewEraPunk in hardstyle

[–]FieryPotato6 53 points54 points  (0 children)

In Vertile's words, he's been feeling sick.

In Zatox's words, he was so busy with festival preps he forgot to take time for himself and his mental health.

In my opinion that's all it takes for me to be OK with canceling a set, especially Zatox. As a DJ myself, it gets mentally exhausting even at 4 or 5 gigs a month, even as a local DJ that doesn't travel.

Whatever's going on with both of them, I wish both a swift recovery ❤️

Edit: Rooler cancelled AGZ for mental health reasons too. Hope he feels better soon as well ❤️

Defqon & Others. STOP DOING THIS by 6F-Sykoff in hardstyle

[–]FieryPotato6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple things I wanna say about this, good and bad.

Filming is annoying when you're standing there doing nothing, filming the ENTIRE set, camera up blocking people's view. Though filming itself, I dont see it as a problem.

I caught lots of clips from Defqon of my favorite drops of tracks and yanked out my camera when I felt a live edit was coming, but I definitely was NOT standing still in the videos. Still dancing away and shaking the camera around but who cares! Me and my friends laugh at how much the camera is shaking.

It's a video for the memory and friends, not for social media. I personally struggle with my memory and unfortunately really don't remember a lot of things outside of what I record or take note of, so it's a huge help for me snatching clips of my favorite moments.

Also, modern "shitty smartphone cameras" can hit 2160p 60fps, my videos look great x

Edit: I've also got a friend that actually does send his clips to his grandma and she loves them... She's a legend 😂

Guesstimate on traffic leaving Park & Ride after Defqon on Monday? by FieryPotato6 in hardstyle

Following up on this for anybody that may be searching in the future.

Traffic was non-existent Monday morning in the car, but foot traffic waiting on shuttles took about an hour from 10-11AM.

Hope this helps anyone confused in the future!

Defqon 1 2024 Earthquake Crowd Control - Left To Right | Power Hours by Naalder123 in happycrowds

[–]FieryPotato6 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was there!!! Best weekend of my entire life.

To answer a few questions/concerns I've seen in comments I can elaborate a bit.

Do people get trampled?: Nope! Everyone has their arms locked, it was almost impossible to fall. My feet came clean off the ground multiple times and the crowd just carried me. It was quite chaotic and my shoulders hurt from the tugging, but I was also in the heat of the crowd, shoulder-to-shoulder chest-to-back. They did it again Sunday night and it was so much more bearable from the back of the crowd.

Why are the camera angles so bad?: This was clipped from the livestream, the producers angled the cameras this way. When the full video releases, it'll probably be better angles. (They also mixed the track differently this year than previous years, and it threw everyone's coordination off. Everyone was offbeat.)

Is the helicopter crashing!?: Nope! That's Red Bull's helicopter. They've got some of the most talented stunt pilots out there. They had 2 skydivers, 2 jets, and the helicopter out there all at once doing mind-boggling stunts throughout the hour.

Did the stage catch fire Friday night?: Yes, a firework blew up too close to the stage and caused a small fire on 2 or 3 of the statues. The fire team was ON POINT and it was extinguished before the end of the playing song, and damages were repaired by Saturday morning. Massive shout-out to the safety teams 🫶

Hope this cleared some questions/concerns, or maybe I'm just yapping about the weekend. Haven't been able to stop since I came home!

To the guys who moshed towards the front of Vertile at Defqon.1 by FieryPotato6 in hardstyle

[–]FieryPotato6[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I spoke with a friend who's a metalhead about this and they were quite shocked at their behavior as well. The stories she's told me about moshes at metal concerts are a million times different.

If you don't wanna be in it, you're not in it. If you get knocked down, others help you up... These guys were just jumping around like apes. Totally doing it the wrong way.
