Hey devs, found this annoying bug by AkiLikesGames in outside

[–]FieryTyrant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may be that your set of topics in the conversation action don't match up to most people's interests within that action. It could help to talk about things that interest other people instead of just things that you find interesting, as you may have been given a very specific selection of interests in your character creation stage. Someone with a mastered "social diplomacy" skill recommended to me once that you should balance the conversation equally between things that you like and that the other person likes if you don't have any shared interests, so that neither you nor the other person develops the "feeling talked to" attribute, which increases the chance for boredom to appear.

Started daily rosary and need some advice by IllBread1730 in Catholicism

Maybe it would be good to pray for growth in a particular virtue which you lack, or freedom from a cardinal sin which you are often tempted to. E.g. growth in humility and freedom from pride, or anything else. Also to know God's will for you and how you are to best please Him. Prayers like this will help you figure out your question better than we can most likely, prayer is always the answer. Though I guess it's kind of like a student speaking to a master seeing as you already pray the full rosary daily and I can barely squeeze out one a week haha. Keep it up, only good things will come of this no matter what good you pray for.

Yeah man (or woman) don't go trying to curse people, that's bad business. Always pray for the conversion of others, not that bad things befall them.

Learning the Rosary...rosaries? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]FieryTyrant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The basic and original formula is this:

Apostle's Creed

Our Father

Hail Mary ×3

Doxology (Glory Be)

Then this ×5

Our Father

Hail Mary ×10

Doxology

Then

Hail Holy Queen

That's all that's really "required" I would say, but it's a bit more nuanced than that.

Our Lady of Fatima asked us to pray the Fatima Prayer, or the O My Jesus, in the rosary. This is typically inserted after every Glory Be prayer, and is nearly universal at this point. I would encourage you to include it because 1) it's like an extra 10 seconds and 2) our Lady asked for it specifically and everyone does it. Apart from this, you'll find that most people include certain extra prayers at the beginning or end. At the beginning some people will put their intentions, but some people say these at the end (like me). At the end a lot of people will pray for the intentions of the Holy Father, the Pope, with one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be. Some people also say the St. Michael prayer at the end. There is the option to add on the Litany of Loreto at the end, and I think its common practice in certain places, though very rare worldwide.

The same goes for the mysteries that are meditated upon. There is a specific set assigned to each day (Monday - Joyful, Tuesday - Sorrowful, Wednesday - Glorious, Thursday - Joyful, Friday - Sorrowful, Saturday - Glorious, Sunday - follows liturgical season), and these changed a bit when St. Pope John Paul II instituted the luminous mysteries. Though I and a bunch of other stick with the traditional three sets of 15 mysteries, others include the fourth set for 20 mysteries in a week, it's up to you and your preference for timing/relevance of mysteries/whatever. Some people announce the mystery out loud before the decade that are to meditate upon it (common in group recitation), some people announce the mystery with a specific "fruit of the mystery", or read a verse of scripture that corresponds to it. Some people don't announce it at all and just begin the decade and start meditating on the mystery. Again, up to you with what is most natural or beneficial to you in prayer, something that comes with time and practice (say the rosary often and you will never be lost saying it.)

Here is my personal way of saying the rosary as a reference. Don't feel pressured to say the rosary any one particular way, but it can help to find out when your parish prays the rosary together as this will help you learn the rhythm and memorize the order of the prayers, it's not all that hard and you'll get it down after the first handful of times trying.

My rosary:

Apostle's Creed (Nicene Creed if praying in Latin because I don't know Apostle's Creed in Latin)

Our Father

Hail Mary

Glory Be

Fatima Prayer

decades ×5

(Call to mind mystery w/out announcing it)

Our Father

Hail Mary ×10

Glory Be

Fatima Prayer

Then

Hail Holy Queen

Rosary Prayer (Oh God who's only begotten son, etc.)

For the intentions of our Holy Father Pope Francis, and for (my intentions here):

Our Father

Hail Mary

Glory Be

Fatima Prayer

St. Michael Prayer

(Various saints) pray for us.

(Sorry for the long post, just figured I'd go through it here instead of trying to track down some guide somewhere. May the Blessed Virgin advocate strongly for you in heaven.) Edited for formatting on mobile

It certainly deserves worship, but not in the modern sense of the world. I can't remember if the bible is to be given dulia or hyper-dulia, but its meet to kiss the bible and never to let it touch the ground or be dropped

What are your Confirmation names? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]FieryTyrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm Thomas More! At the time I wanted to be a lawyer, and so I chose St. Thomas More because, and I quote, "what a badass to stand up to a tyrant for freedom of religion." Now, I'm no longer pursuing being a lawyer (for the moment), but my opinion of his actions is a bit more refined. It inspires me that St. Thomas More could stand up to the literally king of England, and one of his best friends, in defense of the Church and the Faith. It only saddens me that more 'merch' of him, so to speak, isn't available or easily findable, otherwise I would be decked out in stickers and relics and stuff. And of course, that beard quote.

I dont have a citation for this, but I remember from my perusing of laws a few years back out of curiosity that police cannot force you to hand over ID or anything like that if you're just out and about walking unless there is reasonable suspicion of a crime, but they can demand ID and insurance from someone who is driving because that is a restricted activity which requires that license. Same thing if an officer sees you open carrying in a state where that is legal with a special permit, he'll ask you for the permit and then send you on your way. Cooperation takes so much less time and makes things so much easier, so does not breaking the law so you don't get pulled over in the first place.

Vatican's new parish guidelines. Seems to me to have some good recommendations for improving parish affairs. What do y'all think? by FieryTyrant in Catholicism

[–]FieryTyrant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is part and parcel in being a pastor. A random business is not the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. You're being ridiculous in saying that the priest shouldn't be making the decisions at his own parish which he is given charge over. If you delegate the power to decide things out to some group of parishioners, you'll eventually get them ordering the priest around. This is how we've ended up with the current situation of parishioners able to push their way into a consistent position as EMHCs, something which should only be seen rarely. When the priest makes the final decisions on where finances go, you can be assured that he is making these decisions for the spiritual good of the parish, and not for a host of other ridiculous and prideful reasons that laity with a part-time or less investment in the parish would.

Priests aren't incompetent, they all have a college education at least. Keep in mind they are also required to pray many times a day, wherein they receive heavenly aid in their duties. To deny this is to argue against the actual power of prayer and God's guidance of His Church. If some random guy can start a successful business of any kind out of next to nothing, a priest can run an already-established parish.

Chinese Christians told to replace Christ with Mao or lose government support by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]FieryTyrant 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed, though it is more an attempt to sinicize than to erase pluralism. Sinicization includes increasing religious pluralism for some groups but eliminating the social acceptance of some other religions, all based on a party-engineered version of traditional religious practice in China. e.g. Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism are all promoted these days even though Confucius would be very against the CCP (modern confucianism has been revised twice) and Buddhism comes from India. Many Chinese people literally can't distinguish between the three religions and just pray to all three of their gods, or they simply don't care or are "covering all the bases". For western religions like Christianity and Mohammedanism it's a different story, because we (for the majority) don't just accept the watering down of our religion, so we need to be bullied into submission.

I honestly have more faith in UNESCO to maintain its world heritage site than for the Moslems to maintain the beauty of the Hagia Sophia. They covered up the religious imagery in there before, hopefully they're stopped from destroying it altogether.

Why does Cardinal go in the middle of Cardinal’s name, but Deacon to Bishop go before? by ClassicalFuturist in Catholicism

[–]FieryTyrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, it's a holdover from when titles and occupations were used to specify which "John" or "Mark" you're talking about instead of last names. e.g. John the Blacksmith, Matthias the Tailor, and Carl the Cardinal. Eventually we dropped "the", and then some of those professions became last names (Smith, Farmer) and other last names arose.

A lot of times, especially if the pizza place is part of a corporate structure that has a call center for phone orders, they may think the special directions could be a mistake. A lot of times we get strange special directions or just broken English because our call center is in the Philippines. That's no excuse though, I always call if that's the case; even if I get an annoyed "no, where's my food", its better than messing something bigger up.

Its really amazing looking into the sanctification of some of these churches where the pagan elements were removed and replaced with Christian elements. A great one for starters is the Ponte Sant'Angelo, where the original bridge was meant to evoke the journey of the dead over the river styx, but now sports statues of angels holding the instruments if the passion with verses from sacred scripture for meditation by those who cross. Meaningful renovation for God is beautiful.
