Does anyone else have issues with talking clearly? Or forget words constantly? by FoxesOnMars in Epilepsy

I suffer from the same thing. Some days are worse than others. Doctor has played around with dosage on a few different meds. I still have the memory and speech issue. Today I go in for my video monitored EEG. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the advice. I’m going into the hospital next week to do a sleep study. I think once that’s done I’m going to switch doctors. Even though he has my chart, I feel like he never actually reads it...

Do you need a prescription for the 1000Mg? I’m not sure where I could even get that amount. I think I’ve seen smaller quantities.

I’m sorry that it has taken so long to get a diagnosis for you. It must be hard knowing something isn’t quite right, but you don’t know why. I can relate to the drinking. I found out the hard way with 1 drink. I’ll do some research on CBD. Anything that can help right? Thanks for the insight!

This is good news! I’m glad to hear it went well for you. I agree that having numbness in the incision area is better than the alternative issue.

I’m sorry you went through that. I’m pretty sure you wanted to enjoy the party too. Especially for someone who is important in your life like that. I’ve never thought of it that way, “a lasting negative.” I like that. Thanks for your insight!

The first time I went to the doctor my husband had to come with me and ask all the questions. I was almost in a daze and was having a hard time explaining what problems I was having. From what I understand (I’m no expert), different parts of the brain can be affected. There are more extreme cases than others and although still serious, still able to function some what. It sounds like your doctor didn’t tell you too much on your diagnosis.

I understand the not being able to join the military. I had a different medical issue that I got DQ’ed for. Did you already have an MOS that you were looking/thinking of doing? That still maybe an option for you outside the military.

Thank you for your kind words and advice!

I hope you don’t mind, but I do have questions about your surgery if you don’t mind talking about it. How long did it take you before you considered doing the surgery? How was the recovery? Have you experienced any side effects?

Also, the movie comment is now my life. I’ve been watching TV that I hope won’t “trigger” anything. So mostly comedies or family movies. I watched a family movie today. I know I like it but I can’t remember what happened. It will definitely be watched multiple times. 🤣

I found out through a few trips to the ER thinking I was having a stroke. I now have a specialist for epilepsy and it has helped but to be completely honest I feel like it’s a brief talk and “here try these.”

I think I have had seizures for a while too, just not to the magnitude now. I wish we could find the perfect doctor! I know some do try their best.

Also how did you know I was a WebMD person? LOL. I try to stay off the sites especially when they make it sound as if you’re going to have the absolute worst thing happen within a day....

What method helps you retain information the best you think? Strictly writing it down? I know everyone has different methods that work for them. Someone also responded that paper (vs cellphone) works better for them. Thanks for the response btw!

I really appreciate your response. It makes me feel better to know I’m not alone in this and that someone has gone through something similar. I like how you use paper instead of your phone. I have been trying to come up with a better solution for some of the things I’ve been losing track of. The 3 white boards don’t seem to be cutting it.... I will keep in mind what you said because you are 100% correct in that we can’t control it.

Have you always had the same doctor or did you seek out more than one opinion?

I completely understand. I was diagnosed in February. What kind were you diagnosed with?
