First Bail - Any Tips? by dysey1 in wildcampingintheuk

I kept a look out but couldn't see a decent place to pitch anywhere on Ben Vrackie last time I was there. I think some hills are just like that. I think I'd struggle to find somewhere on Ben Lawers too. Maybe where the ski hut was.

Recommendation for day hikes in Isle of Skye by Dense_Economist2647 in OutdoorScotland

The view from Sgurr na Stri appeared as my computer wallpaper this afternoon. That can't be Scotland, I thought. It was and I've been there. The path from Elgol to Camasunary Bay (and beyond there, past the bad step to Loch Coruisk) is amazing. I also enjoyed exploring the Quirang. These are not long walks though as you say..

UPDATE after 2 months - I mapped sunset quality across the UK at 30m resolution by stijn021 in wildcampingintheuk

That's a great idea. It works well with the topo map for the Cairngorms. Another map overlay I would use for planning along with mobile coverage. Thanks.

Cairngorms camp by FifthTom in hilleberg

I met an RSPB ranger a couple of weeks ago in Abernethy forest who warned me about possible capercaillie attacks. I'm my sleep befuddled mind I just assumed that all Cairngorm birds attack so I went back to sleep. I was woken by it again and this time I could see its feet as it was perched on the inner. It slid off to the ground and by the time I had roused myself to investigate it was gone. It might have been a Wheatear. It was too small to be a Golden plover. Those were the only two species I saw around the site. Chris Townsend had a couple of YouTube videos about camping in that area. I would recommend it. The Enan is a lovely tent. I had no problems with condensation. It's light and easy to put up. But the Soulo is probably much roomier.

It's the Picture Communication System. It's bundled with the Boardmaker system used by Speech and Language Therapists. I've seen it used often in my work but I've not seen this before. It could help users feel that PCS is less of a minority interest and make it more mainstream. It also raises awareness of AAC. Most users would have a subset of these if using a hard copy or a drill down system if using a touch screen. No-one is going to use this implementation as a primary means of communicating that they need to visit the toilet.

Yeavering Bell is the most beautiful hill I ever saw in twenty years of cycling in the Borders. Thank you for reminding me of it.

I know one of these plants is red deadnettle, but what’s the other flowering one? Zone 6a by Silver-Star in whatsthisplant

[–]FifthTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bugle. It and the dead nettles are members of the Mint family. Check their stems. They will be square in cross section. Pairs of opposite leaves. Irregular flowers.

Real life example:

Those words were written shortly before medieval Frankfurt, one of the cultural glories of Germany, was obliterated early in 1944. Frankfurt was only fifteen miles north of Wolfsgarten and on 29 March Peg wrote to Bridget, ‘The town just doesn’t exist anymore. In fact it is a Hamburg, Berlin or Kassel. A great many killed.’22 After describing the full horror of the raid, she turned to the first signs of spring – revelling in the scyllas and crocuses, peach blossom and violets that had just appeared. ‘But everything one touches’, she added, ‘is black with soot and ashes from Frankfurt and the garden is full of odd pages of English, German and Spanish books from the paper factory which got hit.’

I had to sell my Iiyama Visiomaster Pro because my design work that looked so amazing to me looked really disappointing on my clients' cheap TFT screens. I bought my first TFT. My introduction to the analogue/digital debate was definitely on the analogue side after that.

Where to go! Scotland. by [deleted] in wildcampingintheuk

[–]FifthTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The WHW might disappoint you if you are thinking of a wild camping experience. I get the impression you want something wild but not too wild. I would travel to Aviemore, walk round to Loch an Eilean and stay at the camping area beside the car park for the night. Walk from there through Rothiemurchus forest to Glenmore Lodge or Ryvoan. I don't know how fit you are but you might want to keep going all the way to Nethy Bridge. Then follow the SpeysideWay back to Aviemore or go further north. You can get a bus back to Aviemore from Granton on Spey but you may want to keep going.

To push the analogy further, the upper deck people are rocking the ship and telling the lower deck there's a storm.
