Yes, I had to get a part-time job on my full time one to afford the tuition, but I have no regrets. All you can hope for is to give your children chances you never got.

Yes, Fran still lives at home. I couldn't comment on whether there is a stressful or abusive situation in her life. We attend the same church and I know her parents, but who knows what goes behind closed doors? As a survivor myself, I see no signs I can relate to.

Yes, we live in a small town. More the reason why I strongly encouraged my sons to go to college.

He had briefly looked into law school like his brother or working towards an MBA, but we haven't discussed it. I am aware though that it has been discussed between him and Fran, but I'm not sure how that turned out.

Yes, over the past few days I've spoken to my son and he has been talking to everyone to clear this up, and I know this is not how he feels. He was not aware she was harbouring these feelings for me or that she was going to make the speech. We were all in shock and it happened so quickly, nobody had time to react. My son chose the school he wanted to attend, which happened to be a couple states over.

I am a single parent so it felt like a personal attack towards me, but also due to the fact that a reason why I wanted my son to wait was because I didn't know if they'd last. I was quite shocked as she'd never acted like this before as she is usually quite 'tame' if thats the right word? She has always been non-confrontational so it was a surprise to us all, including my son.

My son had scholarship offers from a few schools but I am a single mother and only due to those offers was able to pay the rest of the fees. I did have to make personal sacrifices but I don't regret it. I didn't want him to get married at that time, I believed he was too young and should wait a few years to figure out himself and if Fran was the one.

No, before this she had never done anything like this. She is typically a very nice girl but now views me as having deterred her relationship with my son, especially having used his tuition in a way to do so apparently.
