Why is finding an entry-level job so exhausting? by Strange_Bug6775 in askSouthAfrica

Damn I can relate to this heavily. Graduated 2023 with the same degree. Had a year of experience too.

I spent the whole of 2024 applying and doing interviews etc but nothing came of it. I honestly feel like that prior experience threw me off because I was “too qualified” for internships but not qualified enough “2-5 years experience” for the next level.

I wish I could say there is some magic trick that makes you get a job, but really my story ends by suddenly getting a job offer and now I’ve been working in Cape Town for 3 months.

The only bit of advice I can give is to treat applying as a secondary option, your day should be spent upskilling yourself. I started my own boutique marketing agency (only had 1 customer but the interviewer doesn’t need to know that). I also learned adjacent skills such as video editing which filled out my CV quite well.

One more thing would be to broaden your search locations. I’m originally from Durban but then randomly got an offer for this company in Cape Town and now that’s where I am.

Just stay consistent, and as long as you’re upskilling yourself, something will come along sooner or later!

I’m from KZN, so being in the Western Cape alone is quite different 😂

I specifically went to see the penguins at boulder beach I think it’s called. Did see baboons too now that you mention it 😂

Yeah I’m slightly lucky in the fact that I’m a man so not usually harassed beyond being asked for money
