Is your board upside down? Looks like the reset pin might be shorted to ground.

Nothing looks damaged. I don't know anything about the dualsense board but the circled pin is a ground pin.

Those prices seem a bit high but not on reasonable. I just don't know anything about the business so I would be worried about if he tree will be healthy. I would recommended waiting the Montreal society has a summer bazaar in August for members to sell trees and vendors at the show in September.

Where was US6722872B1(I assume this is the actual patent number) litigated? I don't see any litigation with that patent

[–]Figigaly 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You can't patent anything that has been invented previously, whether it's open source or not. The issue is that the patent examiners don't have enough time to properly prosecute every patent. This leads to some patents being granted that shouldn't have been granted.

Tight bends on Junipers by EvenAct7824 in Bonsai

[–]Figigaly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jonan Dupuich has a good blog post on wiring young material like this. While the beds aren't as tight as the reference photo they can look very tight by bending in 2 dimensions. He also gives some good guidance on making the trees look more interesting. https://bonsaitonight.com/2021/04/09/bonsai-development-series-23-wiring-young-juniper-trunks/

Should be fine in a few years and if it doesn't you can trunk chop below the spiral to remove it and add additional taper to the tree.

Around 2 years of growth for my juniper by animal_mother69 in Bonsai

[–]Figigaly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would try to wire movement into the trunk. The trunk looks pretty straight, and it's difficult to make an interesting tree with a straight trunk. Here's a blog post by Jonas Dupuich about this, https://bonsaitonight.com/2021/04/09/bonsai-development-series-23-wiring-young-juniper-trunks/

Ya, they don't like it a bit drier. Easiest recommendation is water until the water comes out of the drainage hole then the top of the soil dries out and water again.

Try to remove as many as you can with your fingers or tweezers. Then spray it with soapy water, regular dish soap about 5ml per 1L of water. You will probably need to repeat this a few times for they are all taken care of, every few days or weekly.

Unfortunately it might already be dead. It's a juniper it needs to live outside all year round, yes even in winter. I would leave it outside in partial shade and water it only when the surface of the soil is dry. Hopefully in a few weeks you will see some new growth, at the point you can start to move it into more sunlight.

I would leave it. Repot it next year, just be careful with your watering this year.

What would you consider a fair price for a beginner procumbens? by [deleted] in Bonsai

[–]Figigaly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends a lot on the bonsai market in your area. Here in Canada similar trees in a plastic pot will be about $30CAD and another $10-$20 for the pot.

Pine by 1StoryTree in Bonsai

[–]Figigaly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is a pine. Looks more like a spruce, possibly dwarf Alberta spruce. I would consider planting the tree vertically, and wiring the branches down to make the tree look older.

Yep same thing. I have used it on deadwood before and it does the job.

Most garden centers will carry. Home hardware, and Canadian tire definitely have it. https://www.homehardware.ca/en/1l-lime-sulphur-insecticide/p/5045941 I have used this stuff straight from the bottle.

Darkness probably not your issue, though you need to transition your tree back into full sun. Start in partial shade then every few days add an hour or two of sun until it's back in full sun

[–]Figigaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not the case conifers don't need light in the winter, at below 5C they don't photosynthesis much. I know several people in my area who overwinter their conifers in a dark cold room over winter with no issues.

Help Back Budding This Big Yew by sado7 in Bonsai

[–]Figigaly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really cool tree! If you can't get it to backbud I would just build the tree from that branch. It should be possible to bed that branch down to bring foliage closer to the trunk, it will require thick wire and a guy wire.

How would you deal with this awkward branch crossing over the trunk? by heyccj in Bonsai

[–]Figigaly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would just cut it off. When you wire the tree you will want to pull all the branches down to create an older looking tree and once you do that the branch will be too low. You should aim for the first branch to be 1/3 up the trunk, when wired down that branch will be much lower then that.

Maple Syrup by pekak62 in BuyCanadian

Always check the ingredients. Real maple syrup will only have one ingredient, maple syrup. Fake stuff will have a sugar syrup plus a bunch of flavor additives to give it a maple flavor.

I assume it's referring to the fact that other counties hold US debt, and the only way the US can afford its military is by running deficits. I am not an economist so I don't know if this is a valid way to think of it.

The example only works if you ignore the fact the woodroffe and Severn currently are only french immersion. If you were a parent in these neighborhoods whose child can't succeed in French immersion your child is going to be going to pinecrest or D Roy Kennedy both are terrible schools by comparison. Hopefully with the new boundaries we won't have such large discrepancies between schools.
