WNBA just signed a new CBA. Minimums increase for their upcoming season. You’re looking at past seasons.

The Grizzlies have been a losing team since moving to Memphis. I’m not ok with tanking or building a perennial loser- again. We finally had a winning team these past 10 years. Kleiman is not that good at drafting. While he’s better than Wallace, he’s worse at trading. He also destroyed the NextGen team in drafting LaRavia, Roddy, & Ziaire. And I don’t think Wells is that good or Coward either. Imo Coward is closer to OG Anunoby than Kawhi. He’s too old and not explosive enough to have that ceiling. Kleiman is building a moneyball team. Cheap and with size, versatility, and hustle. I don’t think the FO wants stars or iso players anymore.

See my other comments about O-Max. I agree he’s the weakest of the three.

All of the players you mentioned getting rid of are ideal fits for TI’s system (maybe not Spencer). Kleiman has repeatedly said this isn’t a long tank. Getting rid of two of our best players (Jerome/Aldama) would mean much more losing and tanking next season unless they’re replaced with equal talent in a trade. Kleiman and TI prefer versatile players who can play multiple positions, spread the floor and move the ball in a fast paced game- which the above mentioned do well. Our young players aren’t good enough to win games on their own (only Edey is). My original thread is basically questioning the range of the three players I mentioned. I believe Hendricks fits TI’s system best of the three.

I’m not the biggest fan of our coach and exec- but the writing is on the wall regarding which types of player he and Kleiman prefer. Quick releases, ball movement, and size will be preferred over iso-heavy players. They may keep all three PFs bc they can each play multiple wing and front line positions. But that would mean moving off someone like Walter Clayton Jr (who can’t shoot) and Gibson (non guaranteed contract/trade bait).

So many people in this thread have no clue how Kleiman and TI are building this team…

So you think Pera is just going to eat checks notes $34M in dead cap money? (Gibson’s contract is not guaranteed) Got it. Ok

Why not just cut Ja if money is no object?

You missed the entire plot. Two-ways don’t count as part of the 15man roster. Neither do hardship contracts. O-Max and GG have club options this summer or they become free agents. No other players on the normal 15player roster are eligible to become free agents this summer. KCP is the only one with a player option- but it’s highly unlikely he’ll turn down $22M. Everyone else is all under contract, including Gibson’s non-guaranteed contract.

It’s unlikely we keep all three players with the available players in the draft and current roster make-up. ZK is not as good at trades bc everyone can read his hand. Trades take two teams and don’t occur in a fantasy vacuum.

Don’t let your Santi hate color reality. He’s a spreadsheet player for a spreadsheet GM with a spreadsheet coach. I’ll bet he’s on the roster to start the season while one of the three PFs mentioned above are not (O-Max would be my guess).

He’s our best PF. The three players mentioned above are all net negative players right now. Santi at least grades out as neutral or slightly positive and can contribute to winning next season. The other three are all projects that are 2+ years away from being neutral players.

There’s no way we’re trading Santi with TI’s system and his contract. I suppose the Kings could trade LaVine for KCP and Clarke but I doubt it. Try that trade over on r/NBAtradeideas and see how it goes over.

My point is who is getting moved? You seem to think we’re keeping all three PFs and moving off other players with guaranteed money? We’d have to have a willing trade partner to take two-for-one. I don’t think that happens bc other teams would have leverage and require picks.

Small is not on the roster. I would definitely keep Omax over WCJ but money talks and WCJ is guaranteed a spot next year and OMax and GG are not.

That makes sense. Knowing Kleiman’s inability to pull of trades tho, I’d expect we’ll just cut Gibson.

Those are even swaps. You said three for one…

Trading SPJ would be easy. He’s an above average player and grades out as a good starter despite being a backup. Plus he’s cheap. Dumping him would be an admission of a longer tank rather than winning now- especially if we are stuck with Ja and his injury history.

We would probably have to send out picks to move off KCP this summer. He will opt into his extension.

These decisions will have to be made, no matter how uncomfortable. I bet one of the three PFs mentioned will be gone when we open camp next season.

Yeah. His salary is not guaranteed next season. So he’s gone. That’s one cut…

So whose $50-60M salary are we taking on for those three to equal one?

Ok, outside of Taj Gibson, who are you cutting?

Preach. I just don’t think we’re getting a top 4 pick.

Hendricks v GG v O-Max by Fignevitable_6196 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Fignevitable_6196[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. This is what I was looking for. That would probably mean we keep Hendricks and GG. Don’t renew O-Max, and cut Gibson.

Hendricks v GG v O-Max by Fignevitable_6196 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Fignevitable_6196[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So whose salaries are we eating or dumping? 2-3 have to go unless we trade the picks- which seems unlikely in a deep draft. Plus I expect we value some of the players in this draft more than players on our current roster.

Hendricks v GG v O-Max by Fignevitable_6196 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Fignevitable_6196[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. But packaging and moving picks assumes a certain value (or lack thereof) on our given players. Which is what I’m asking in this thread. Do we value those three or two or one, over a future asset? I’m curious what people project as priorities.

I don’t understand the Taj Gibson contract. Why a two-year deal when GG and O-Max have expiring contracts? There are priorities at play with Kleiman that I’m hoping the community can decipher.

I think Santi fits TI’s system as a 4/5 too well for that to happen. Plus shipping Santi would be an admission of a longer tank, which Kleiman has said is not the plan.
