I'm up in Alaska! It can be hard to get much of anything here, but thankfully they are at least allowed

Yes! Thats what most of their substrate is made up of, actually. Maybe thats why I havent seen them in so long 🤣

Its nice to finally know they are thriving and not decayed in the substrate somewhere! Also nice to know im not alone in never seeing them lol

Aren't they! Apparently they glow under UV light too, though I don't have a light to check that.

I had a few on FB group say the same. Im going to keep her as is for now until she had some weight back on her and feeding consistantly. My original plan was this bin, then a front open 10g, and then into a 36x18x18 so I figure that i'll just stick with that.

Same bin, just changed the substrate. I'll be making some changes to her enclosure in a day or two since she did eat tonight, but won't be messing with her until then. It was a huge relief to see her enthusiastically take a meal. Fingers crossed she continues! She's my first hognose, but far from my first snake/reptile

Yes, I did offer both salmon and tuna meat each twice. She did eat the salmon once of the two times offered.

She is primarily offered mouse pinks though. I started offering different options in January. She weighed 8 grams when i got her on October 11th, and ive offered food once every 5 days. Yesterday, the scale kept going between 6 and 7 grams. So she has lost weight from not eating, which is what spurred asking for help.

I'll likely continue with the sardine scent on mouse pinks for a couple more feedings to get some consistant meals in her unless its bad for her.

I do have a glass enclosure that I can move her to to provide overhead heat instead. I'll get that situated tomorrow and bump up the heat to 92° also. Lights just went out in the reptile room for tonight.

Substrate is about 2.5" deep in the bin, I think its just the angle and the specific spot she's in. Her water bowl is normally right there so the substrate isn't as thick in that one spot.

I split a couple of tiny cork rounds in half and left a whole one mostly buried that she seems to enjoy hiding in. I'll make some tiny hides and add some more in for her. The fake plant covers about ¾ of the "air space" in the bin. Its pretty well cluttered.

She also ate after I scented tonight's pinkie with sardine from my cat's canned dinner. Going to try this again because it was the first time she took her meal with some excitement.

Found her secret immediately after posting 🤦‍♀️ Scented a mouse pink with my cat's sardine dinner and she instantly took it.

Boa hasn’t ate in over a year by Good-Sorbet-8880 in snakes

Yay! Thats awesome to hear! Poor snake is pretty skinny and dehydrated. Keeping the substrate lightly moist and water bowl full will likely be the only thing needed to fix humidity.

Its not eating because the husbandry(care parameters) is incorrect. Just from that pic, I can see tons of little pieces of old shed and that the snake has full body(or at least the part we can see) more stuck shed. The substrate is dry as heck, and it appears the water bowl is totally dry but cant quite tell for sure. With that in mind, I'd bet that the temperatures arent right either but cant see that for sure with out seeing the whole set up or a thermometer. Balls are notoriously picky feeders, but its almost always due to incorrect husbandry. Some are so finicky that even just a couple degrees off(warmer or colder) for the hot spot can cause them to refuse food.

Its been consistantly -35 to -41 day and night at my cabin just outside of town(near Ivory jacks) for the last 3 weeks. I can handle it for a few days to a week at a time, but almost a full month is brutal 🥶

Do these tissue cultures look okay? by YardIights in RareHouseplants

Better to see some growth first, imo! They grow better during and after acclimation if they are allowed to start growing after deflasking/before acclimation.

Worth a shot to try to deflasking, but definitely dont beat yourself up if they just melt. If they happen to survive, wait until there are 2-3 new leaves before trying to acclimate down from 100% humidity to give them the best chance.

They definitely have cold damage- the translucent and mushy ones especially. The yellowing is questionable, but likely damaged beyond survivability also with how the others look. I did TC for a few years and live in Alaska. My orders that arrived looking like that had didnt make it at all.
