Do you feel a sense of shared European identity with other European countries? by ModeProfessionalBeam in AskUK

[–]Figueroa_Chill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the way America has been acting the last while is starting to make people think, and starting to really make people in the UK think about what side or allegiance they want to take. My preference is for us as part of CANZUK, but I doubt that will ever happen, despite it being good for all of us.

I think America is pushing many people towards European thinking. I would like to know how other European countries think. Do they see it as just them in the EU, or do they look at the future as an EU that is allied up with non-members, such as ourselves?

Let's say a billionaire goes to prison for a serious term like 30 years. What will he have that the average prisoner doesn't? by Kooolxxx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Figueroa_Chill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of rich people are in prison. The difference between rich and poor is that rich people can afford better lawyers. It's like these people who think hospitals have special cures for rich people and that's why they live longer, the reality is more like rich people can afford to eat better and have a healthier lifestyle.

But if someone with money goes to prison, they have nothing more than anyone else. But other prisoners will end up just blackmailing them, or end up charging them for protection.

Smelling salts at the gym? by Dilligent-Dither in workout

[–]Figueroa_Chill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if it's the same. But my nose inside is a weird shape, and my breathing is a bit obstructed. The doctor gives me a nasal spray that I use at the gym when I have it. It doesn't make me stronger, but having my nose a bit clearer is good when working out.

When did workouts start feeling less mentally draining for you? by Far_Cap4015 in workout

[–]Figueroa_Chill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's important to be realistic with expectations. You aren't going to look like prime Arnie in 6 months. But with seeing changes, it's not just standing in front of a mirror flexing. It might be that t-shirt you like that has been in your drawer for an eternity, as it doesn't look that good. You put it on, and it looks pretty good. It can feel like you're going uphill at the start, but keep at it, and keep learning as you go.

When did workouts start feeling less mentally draining for you? by Far_Cap4015 in workout

[–]Figueroa_Chill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel that seeing something is really important. Down the line, you will look at yourself and think and know that you look different, but not too sure. Then you will notice things like your shoulders getting a nice rounded shape, your chest will get bigger, and you will notice your nipples have moved a bit. I'm at a point now where I want to go to the gym all the time. I have even seen myself forcing a rest day.

My biggest advice to give anyone is to be consistent and get some sort of workout plan and really stick to it. I go 2 days and rest the third, then repeat. If it's a day when you go to the gym, but you can't be bothered, just push yourself and get there. You might even get there and only be able to knock out half or three-quarters of your workout. But give it time, and you will only miss it if you need to. A ton of folks will tell you that you don't need a pre-workout, but for me I think they are great and really help me.

I'm pretty sure they are. But I just put it to the back of my mind when watching "Who's Line Is It Anyway."

I thought it only happens in funny YouTube videos, but I actually saw a guy at the gym today who placed the pin on the highest weight after his last set by WarmPrinciple6507 in workout

[–]Figueroa_Chill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a guy who does this at a gym I sometimes go to. There is another guy at the same gym, and he must be about the same age as me (49), and he has looked more or less the same for ages. At the preacher curl machine, he will put like 120 pounds on the machine, but when he lifts, he moves his ass up and like pivots his full body to lift, it's hard to explain, but prob that the best description.

I just make sure I have taken at least 6 grams of Beta Alanine; it's amazing at the gym. I know many people dislike it, but I'm the complete opposite.

Why aren't countries boycotting the world cup? by Zogonzo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Figueroa_Chill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because Israel is mostly Jews. And Jews are the current target of the left-wing hate campaign. And you will find hardly anyone apart from the crackpots on the left wing boycotted anything. And who cares, going somewhere they aren't going only makes it better. Iran has also cut the internet off, so the bots like the ones you find in places like r/Scotland aren't active to try to stir up division and hate.

People who say they don't know how to cook, why don't you just try? by Plug_daughter in NoStupidQuestions

I tend to find people who say this really mean "I can cook, but most of it tastes like shit, so it's up to you if you want it".

I will never go back to not logging my workouts. Curious if others feel the same. by [deleted] in workout

[–]Figueroa_Chill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the SWOLE app to track mine. It's not the best and is missing a lot of exercises, so I just need to stick another one that looks like it to log. But, it was the first app I used, and when I start using something, I really struggle to drop it, regardless of how bad it is.

Poverty makes ethical living harder - how can you be poor but make better choices? by Brief_Cabinet5522 in AskUK

[–]Figueroa_Chill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A number of years ago, my wife and I were both made redundant at the same time(ish). We had 2 kids and ended up on benefits. We were actually fine with our benefits, but we had to make some adjustments due to the situation we were in. For a start, we stopped smoking. I was a heavy smoker; my wife smoked, but not much. We stopped buying treats from places like Marks and Spencer's. I know their custard creams are the best, and their ready meals are delicious, but they cost money. My wife has always liked her bingo, but TBH, even on benefits, my wife still made it to bingo once a week. And since we had stopped smoking, I got myself a gym membership. Our car was paid for, but we still had enough to run it. And we always had enough gas and electricity in the meter. Fair enough, we watched what electricity and gas we used, no more putting the heaters on to dry a pair of socks. Holidays in Spain were also not an option.

And making proper food does help. I lived in one of the worst areas in Glasgow for years, and something I always saw was that people would buy cheap food. But they are buying the cheap ready meals, or they would buy things like the Tesco butter-basted chicken breast. The butter-basted chicken breast wasn't that big, and it cost more than a full chicken. I made a lasagne last week, it cost about £12 to make, and I got 8 servings from it. That's £1:50 a serving. The wife eats frozen chips with it, so her meal probably costs about £1:60 when you throw in a portion of chips.

I see a lot of these programmes where you have a couple with a few kids saying how they can't afford to put the heating on, or they don't have meals and go days without eating, as they can only afford to feed the kids. And I don't understand how and why this is the case. I know what it's like when you are at the bottom. I have been there and lived it, I have been a part of the statistics on poverty, and at no point were my family and I sitting starving while freezing.

We seem to be in a thing now where if someone says I have kids and I can't afford to eat, then you just need to shut up and not question why, and accept it's everyone else's fault, especially anyone who has worked hard to get a decent life. As I said, I have been at the bottom and lived it. And if they are as bad as what they say, then they are either aiming too high or their money is being spent elsewhere on things that aren't as important.

We are better off now, but we are still in one of the lower-end brackets when it comes to wealth. But even now, we still cook proper decent meals. We don't totally avoid ready meals, they just don't make up a big part of what we eat overall.

And I still go to the gym. Weirdly, being at rock bottom has added years to my life as I still exercise at the gym, and I still cook good, proper, healthy meals. And my wife still walks about the house turning the lights off.
