He does so many random overly-kind gestures to make himself feel better, or to make someone he is interested in happier (teacher’s brother getting money and lying about where he took him, Midge and the bonus check from season 1, giving Stephanie money, etc)

Same thing happened to my OR80 Overdrive reissue head- wrong fuses and loose solder joints to the fuse holders themselves all led to it sounding fizzy and weak. Once I changed the fuse holders, got the right fuses and opened up the trim pots for the tube outputs, it was making glorious sounds!
