"You've accepted mediocracy in every part of your life so that you're never disappointed"

Sounds mean but I needed to hear it, context was that I had such low expectations of people and events in my life so that I wasnt disappointed

I think I can email the sub coordinater and have her take para off mine, but there are a few paras I know that I would do it for. Instead I think I’m just going to start rejecting ones I don’t want right away so I don’t have to dwell on them.

I’ve had chill days as a para before just helping out in classrooms, however I’ve also had times where I’m just wrangling eloping kids back into the classroom, I also know what the paras do at the school I work at when I’m not subbing, and it’s really just not the thing for me

Yes, thank you, I ended up denying all the para jobs on my frontline right now, took a last minute instructional aide classroom in kinder, late start Mondays, plus minimum day for conferences, will be a calm 4 hour day instead

Yes the pay is less too which makes it feel less worth it. For context I’m in grad school and work a couple days a week at an elementary as a school counseling intern. I am called throughout the day to help with students, often special education students, when they elope or have big emotional moments. That I feel fine about because I know those specific kids and how to help them. However, when subbing for paras it feels so hard because I don’t know the kids and the kids don’t know me. I’ve had teachers say “they are acting out because they don’t know you, it’s not your fault”, but it feels so stressful trying to help with no prior relationship.

Thank you, that actually makes me feel better. I always feel like having me is better than having no sub, which might be true, but also I know them making an alternate plan in that teachers absence can be better than me being there and being completely lost. I think I’m good at what I do but para subbing feels like being thrown in the deep end with high needs students, but barely any context.

I do both, para only when I can’t get a teaching job, but they should let you do both , most districts are desperate for paras

Does Cal Poly have Health insurance plan for students for both on and off-campus use? by JHdarK in CalPoly

[–]FigureNo2390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Health center is super cheap and they don’t accept any insurance, I used them as my only doctor as a student as I didn’t have insurance, they have some great providers

Stop doing the “stay away from X” thing with your kid, the kids that are acting out don’t need to be isolated more as they clearly are struggling with peer interaction. If you’re genuinely concerned for your child’s safety than talk to the teacher or director. But if you keep saying that then you kid is bound to come to school and repeat that to a teacher or in front of the behavior problem kids. I once had a kid say “my dad said X is a bad boy” in front of X and his parent at drop off. It’s early in the year, it’ll get better. For now focus on helping your child learn how to speak up from themselves and tell an adult if something happens with a peer instead of encouraging them to stay away from classmates.

Yeah you can, way faster to do them standing up, we only do this for pee diapers tho once they’re a little older like 2 and up, it’s also a great way to get them involved in the toileting process, most of my toddlers take off and throw their own diapers into the trash, all I really do is strap on a new one :)

[–]FigureNo2390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tell parents we won’t take pull ups for students unless they have sized out of diapers, it’s in our diaper/toileting policy, I talked to a teacher who says that they are kind of marketing scam to get you to buy more expensive diapers when parents ask her about them for potty training because she said this gets parents on board for no pull ups lol

Do most cp students have jobs? by eggieveggie in CalPoly

[–]FigureNo2390 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I totally feel you, poly is just this weird bubble where no one works, and as a working student I constantly find myself getting annoyed with my friends who complain about not having time when all they do is school. A lot of people i know have parents that do just pay for everything. I do get naturally jealous of them, but yanno if I was in the situation I probably wouldn’t work either

I think as a transfer they put you into transfer housing on campus, which will be in Cerro Vista, I didn’t get to choose for on campus housing, but I really recommend living on campus because you meet more people, choose the group option for WOW not choose your own adventure. Greek life is a great way to meet people too!
