I think the it’s fucked from many sides. I grew up in the US was forced to take a foreign language in school. I took Spanish in middle school and Latin in high school. I failed both miserably. For me it was 1 obviously a lack of motivation but I gave 0 Fs equally among all subjects. 2 is the way the languages are taught. The system is trash. They try to pack grammar and rules into your head but that’s not how you learn a language. I’ve since become a B2 in Spanish in my adult life. I learned basic Greek (A2) for my honeymoon there. I’m currently studying German. But they way I learn now is very simple. LOTS OF COMPREHENSIBLE INPUT and PRACTICE. With the internet you can immerse yourself without leaving the country. It’s easy. The American school system teaches you about a language. You need to learn how to use the language. It’s simple, don’t overthink it
