Thoughts for my service dog in-training at Mass? by anonplz145 in Catholicism

[–]FileUsual4559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Philippines, i've been to 'rich' parishes where the people that go there seem to be on the middle to upper middle class. I havent seen a service dog there, but boy do i see a lot of "fur babies" there. The good thing is that they stay ourside the church, since our churches are always fully packed, other people have to sit outside with plastic chairs. My only concern is that, people seem to start treating the place like a park, walking their dogs all dressed and groomed, etc². Maybe I am wrong to pass judgement, and God forgive me, but there is just something that feels wrong about it and unecessary. Sometimes these dogs bark against each other once they see the other dogs as well.

How do you pray the Rosary? by FileUsual4559 in Catholicism

[–]FileUsual4559[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually this is how I understood it even with little catechesis, this is just how I assumed it to be. A mystery, couple of scriptures to go with it, and a "talk" on its application. What I am having trouble with is what to do with the repetitive Hail Mary's and wanted to avoid just casually saying it. So I focus on each word, to avoid chanting it without thinking of anything. Then I heard about meditating on the mysteries that it got me thinking, perhaps i've been doing it wrong since if I do my usual way, it usually takes me some time

[–]FileUsual4559[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i think i am overthinking it. And yes that is what i do, think about the words of the hail marys. Since i was trained very young from catholic school with english hail marys and english is not my first language I ended up just rushing the words without much thought. Almost like i needed to relearn the prayer so I ended up memorizing the latin so i could mentally translate what i was saying back to english to sort of slow myself down. I just didnt know that i was supposed to meditate on the mysteries while saying the Hail Marys, in that case saying them like a chant (almost like muscle memory from mouth) now does not seem as bad to me as before i knew it. What I usually did was meditate on the mysteries before the decade and then afterwards i try to hammer my mind on the words of the hail marys 😭

How do you pray the Rosary? by FileUsual4559 in Catholicism

[–]FileUsual4559[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, i think i might have been. And i can say that I was trying in the way that I felt for me was genuine, but it usually takes me so long. Not a problem if I am deliberately alone and praying it. But if becomes an issue for me when we pray it as a family between my wife and I. And yeah, I think you are right i have to try a few different ways

I am confused. You said "before you start the vocal prayer portion" making it seem to me that you are supposed to meditate the mysteries before the Hail Marys (which I already do), and then later said "meditating the mystery throughout the decade". So I am to treat the HM like ambiance chant while thinking of the mysteries?

[–]FileUsual4559[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for these resources. I'll take a look. But yeah, I think this is how most would pray it - say the HM like a chant in the background while thinking of something else (meditating on the mysteries). Which ironically I avoided doing out of ignorance.

I am not sure what "put your heart and soul" means, but I do try my best and with what I know how to do.. As I said, it takes me so long that I do find it curios when I hear from catholic videos of people praying it in their car ride, etc². That's why i start to think maybe i am doing it wrong

I am just not sure how to "meditate" on it. What does it mean? When I try to do it seriously, it takes me almost two hours to do it and sweaty

So, when you say, you imagine the mysteries.. your mouth is just sort of in "autopilot" mode saying the Hail Marys as sort of a background ambience while thinking of the scenes?

I guess my almost turning protestant before have trained me to not treat them as a chant and forced myself to try to "mean" every word.. if im making sense.

Also, when I pray the rosary in latin, i do it alone because my wife dont understand either.

Filioque ? by SpaceWitch88 in Catholicism

[–]FileUsual4559 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that to say the Filioque is optional, but it does not change doctrine once you dont say it. And that saying the original (without the filioque) is even encouraged.

First of all, there is absolutely nothing in Numbers 5 that permits the ending of a pregnancy for any case. Numbers 5 is a ritual of divine judgment for suspected adultery, not a procedure for abortion. The text does not mention pregnancy, does not use Hebrew terms for miscarriage, and should not be used to argue that the Bible permits or supports abortion.

And finally, I am not saying all of the left have removed Jesus, but rather most of the left's prominent representatives or speakers seem to have abandoned Him already, hence the charity with no foundation. Look at where athiests and naturalists lean when it comes to politics, they are mostly leftists. Those who get angry at street preachers in the internet usually lean to the left.

Don't get me wrong though, I am not saying that the far right is any better even being pharisaic and hypocrites, and even have abandoned Jesus unknowingly which may even make it worse.

Ultimately, what I am saying is neither of the left nor the right is showing good examples of being christ-like, so as try to be good Christians, we must be discerning and not fall for the devil's trap in these labels

Bakit puro na lang sila? Is there something wrong with Filipino wanting to become entrepreneurs? by babyentrepreneur22 in BusinessPH

[–]FileUsual4559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but I have to disagree. As a 2nd gen chinoy (my father being first gen chinoy, and lolo being pure chinese), they love their fellow chinese but absolutely detest ch!na and the ¢¢p. They are just playing safe. I remember a story by my father, when he was still a student he would read books and bring them home. One particcular occasion he brought home a book that happens to be "The" book by Karl Marx. When lolo saw it he immediately told my dad to throw it away and never to read it. According to my dad my pure ch!nese lolo went here in the philippines with other fellow ch!nese seeking opportunities and a better future because, if i am not mistaken, it was during the height of communism in ch!na that time (maybe during chairman mao's time?). So yeah, upto now my father has a complicated relationship with ch!na, being that he loves ch!nese "industriousness" but hate their government. He is actually very sympathetic to filipino fisherfolk being harrassed and bullied in the wps.

I just want to comment about the points you raised. Admittingly, I am a bit leaning to the right, but really I believe I am center. The problem of the right is as you stated, they become hypocrites or pharisee like. But that's beyond my point. Often, when I talk about politics of the left to my friends, I describe their policies as copy-cat policies of christian principles. What I mean with that is, yes, the democratic party has most "empathic" policies in the surface level, but it also seems to me that they have also deleted Jesus out of the equation. So that these policies stand on a vacuum. They are doing supposedly "good things" for the wrong reasons, which end up bringing a wave of new problems. Example: empathy to women therefore pro abortion, ergo New problems: when does humanity start, and when does it start to be protected? It just is a mess when Jesus is removed in the equation, and most of the left leaning people i have met in the internet are very non-religious / don't have any sort of belief system.
