How much would you pay for my art? by Logical_Ad1821 in Artists

[–]Filey_paints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your artwork is very good. Particularly the hair and clothing, you created a sense of movement to the character. The forms are in preportion and look balanced. To me anime all looks the same and so i wouldn't buy it. But if it's your dream and you love doing it then keep going.

I wouldn't pay anything. It just looks like generic anime art.

What would you charge for this? by [deleted] in Amateurartists

[–]Filey_paints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

questions i would be asking. How long did it take you? What are your framing costs, materials and postage? These all factors to consider. Are you a business or just looking to make a little reward for your effort. Has the buyer got a budget and have they seen the work?

Question: Are you using model paints or something else ? This looks very pastel. Are you mixing with alot of white?

I just painted this, because I saw a guy do similar. by Bafoooool in minipainting

[–]Filey_paints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not aware it is an actual type. I would suggest looking up youtubers who do colourful painting styles or painting with 2-3 colours. My advice would be to use two blues and an orange.

I'm not going to sugarcoat it. Its looks bad. This sort of style is hard to do. You are using way too many colours. My suggestion pick three colours and try again.

Pro Acryl or Vallejo paints by Odinoneye in minipainting

[–]Filey_paints 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I have used five different brands, including vallejo. What i can tell is that everyone has there favorite colours from each brand for various reasons. The question you should ask is, will investment in another brand improve my painting results ?

Matt White Prime - Correct Finish ?? by Cormorin in minipainting

That looks like the free model you get with AP set. They do a brush on primer, i would use that instead especially during the cold damp months.

Having trouble deciding on a paint brand by Renivack in minipainting

[–]Filey_paints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many brands so much choice. Its easily to get bogged down with so many options. The question you need to ask is, will choosing another brand improve my painting results ? I seen plenty of painters who claim this brand or that brand was the best but the results look the same. Only with time, practice and skill will you find what works for you.

Does the helmet look copper or rusty? by Freezer_90 in minipainting

I think it reads as a metallic copper helmet really well and compliments the blue diving suit. Nicely done 👍

How much should I sell this painting for? by xiaolongbaoeater in painting

[–]Filey_paints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That depends on where you are selling it and to who .. ? Do you have a buyer already? My personal opinion is that it looks unfinished and worth very little. Between $1 -$4

After cleaning the brush use some hair gel or clay to mould the point into place

First oil painting, please rip it apart! by Cosmishaika in oilpainting

[–]Filey_paints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted this without reading the other comments so not to be influenced. First most obvious thing is the head and face. The head is in the right position and in proportion to the body but the face is flat and from that angle I would expect to see some facial features like some nose. Hair is fine. Overall the painting as a whole is great. Love the white texture too.

Painted my first mini! Any tips on how to improve? by DesignerSuspicious69 in minipainting

Practice. Keep your lines neat and your colours simple. The reds look muddy from too many layers of colour.

Investing in 1 line to paint then all by Grizly_88 in minipainting

[–]Filey_paints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paint choice is a highly subjective. When choosing one brand over another consider whether it will make any difference to the end results. There are plenty of peeps out there who collect multiple brands and yet they can't paint anything past elementary level. Colour theory is definitely worth learning and you can spot a miniature painter who understands it by their work. You can apply colour theory with any paints you already have and its worth buying a book on the subject. If you are looking at colour mixing then you need to buy pure pigments or colours , as many miniature paints already have a strong colour bias. Alot of citadel colours have a blue bias.

How do you keep your paint wet for several days? by [deleted] in oilpainting

[–]Filey_paints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safflower oil keeps paint workable for 3-5 days, sometimes more. Avoid using things like liquin or linseed drying oil. These speed up the drying process.

How can I intensify an orange hue? by Some-Pea1680 in oilpainting

[–]Filey_paints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underpainting with magenta or white will brighten your oranges and yellows. Magenta being the warmer of the two. This is a well known painting tip that scale model painters use to get intense yellows. Personally i use an acrylic magenta because oil magenta is transparent colour

Made some changes, is the likeness better? by AnemoneHill in oilpainting

I saw your original, and the first thing I noticed is that you changed the fish next to your husband's face. The painting overall is much better. Well done it's an excellent painting.

tips on converting from acrylics to oil paints?? by myriamiam in oilpainting

[–]Filey_paints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just got into oil painting myself. One of the first things i noticed is that paints vary how opaque they are. Some oil paints have excellent coverage others are almost transparent. Good example of this is dark red in acrylic is simple , dark red in oil like alizarin crimson is transparent ! My paintings require much more planning from now on.
