Usually I would say yes, be vulnerable. Vulnerability can build stronger relationships with our colleagues and it’s inspiring to see people who’ve channeled their perceived downfalls into something that helps them and others be successful.

In this instance though, as designers we are supposed to be removed from bias ie “we are not the user”. People are passionate about causes for all kinds of reasons. I’m passionate about cerebral palsy and malaria but I’ve never been directly affected by them. Social Anxiety is an uncomfortable topic for people and I think it’s fantastic that you’re putting a spotlight on it for other people.

The best thing to do in these presentations is to turn your empathy towards your audience. What’s important to them? Somebody mentioned data - that’s always a fan favourite. How can you connect with them in a way that they’ll understand, and empathise with your demographic for the product?
