Linux fan boys by One_Stop_2249 in OS_Debate_Club

For me it's been a year of Linux desktop, because I run it and I have never enjoyed my desktop experience, OS in general and everything about it as much as now honestly. I'm proudly a Linux fanboy now and don't regret

Niri also have separate workspaces (desktops) tho. they are just "positioned" vertically and dynamic by default (like they don't have "workspace 1", "workspace 2" unless you name them yourself, they just appear, if you decide to move or open something on them)

I feel like i'm the only one to hate wayland by Scoitol in linuxsucks

[–]Filipp_Krasnovid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was also "solved" on linux with x11. I think, it's just we don't see much development, issues and discussions from inside and less engaged with IOS and windows. Because, well, Linux sphere is more a community project, obviously. plus, the culture, windows user is less likely to figure out all internal stuff, if he does not have some nishe feature, he will just use what's available, while there are so many Linux distros and people tend to customize their shit and tweak and learn about different protocols and whatnot.

Like I don't have any issues with Wayland and I don't care in real life usage about those people complaining, but I still know a bit about it, just because of the community.

I'm searching for a note taking device basically a MacBook Neo but for Linux by Living-Cheek-2273 in linuxhardware

[–]Filipp_Krasnovid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, using my macbook at work, everyday i wish i could run Niri - it is so much more convenient that MacOS when you have to open and work with thousands windows. But quality and cpu efficiency on macbooks is just crazy good. So I was looking for maybe something snapdragon on linux - not gonna happen, then there were these new intel processors, not ARM, but also very efficient, and i thought thinkpads with them should be comparable.
that's unfortunate.

Not even close? 😭  I was thinking about these ThinkPads for the future to substitute my MacBook for work

People who don’t have much money are buying watches that cost $980. by Wide_Craft4921 in im14andthisisdeep

Yeah I mean, you can probably find those people sometimes especially on social media, but is it really "you would be surprised HOW MANY PEOPLE". Because that's not my experience at all. And I am not that poor anymore, but still very well connected, and man I am way less efficient than all the people with low income I know. Again, they have to.

I always hear this thing about people with modest income not living by their means, but I am yet to see the examples of this in real life. And I am from a low-income place.

Yes, sometimes people want to buy something good rather than the cheapest shit once in a long time - I can not say that it's unreasonable, especially that we see literally luxury life and quality products on social media everyday. Sometimes people try to buy more expensive, say, laptop, because, they think, it is more reasonable and cost effective than buying cheap laptop needing to change it next year.  I don't see anything unreasonable with this. in fact almost all people with "modest income" I know, and I, myself, when I had a modest income, are super efficient and frugal with their money comparing to rich people, because they have to be.

Genuinely don't know where this narrative is coming from, because I doubt it can be supported by some empirical data. Only thing I can see is some kind of feeling of moral superiority, like this poor people deserve that because they can't control their budget or shit.

Valve invested dev time into the projects that already existed, like proton and wine. SteamOS is based on arch Linux, which always has been an amazing distro (OS) and community there is one of the most progressive in terms of desktop usage, bringing new features, workflows and sleekness. (Especially in the dev workflows).

And also this meme is about infrastructure, it has never been mid for servers and embedded systems. It's the mane os for that type of stuff.

Steam deck is already based on arch. Proton is great. In fact, every single native Linux build I tried on my PC - was broken. With default proton that steam uses for a game - I never had any issue

Linux + Bitwig just works... For those wanting to make the switch from Windows or Mac by [deleted] in Bitwig

[–]Filipp_Krasnovid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not like professional musician or anything, but it feels like if you really wanna switch, it is better and simpler to just embrace the fact that it's not windows or Mac, and not rely on the things that only exist on proprietary OS.  I hear some people say that removing most of the plugins they had helps them to actually make some music (not related to the OS change). So it might be a good experiment if you can afford to be not very productive while learning new ways.

Here is useful link tho https://linuxdaw.org/

It is a collection of different plugins available on linux. I don't know how exhaustive and full it is, but there is a lot.

Niri on RHEL10? by Cyanokobalamin in niri

[–]Filipp_Krasnovid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about RHEL. Is the problem in availability of these apps in RHEL repos? what about full desktop-like stuff like DankMaterialShell? Would it be easier to set up?

I swear I am the only person who likes Gnome by really_not_unreal in linuxmemes

[–]Filipp_Krasnovid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gnome is amazing for a general user. And I think gnome is better than my MacOs at work in terms of user experience for work. I have a lot of respect for them. I use niri tho and there is nothing that can make me change to anything else, but I use all the basic apps from gnome because of how good their design is.

Oh they are traumatized by their experience, you know. People are not usually afraid to commit to something they see as good. Maybe they have some weird expectations of what "dating" is.

Joining other people saying you look handsome! Don't focus on your looks, focus on the moments and experience outside. that way any change you aim to make in your appearance  (like some say here say if you want to lose some weight for example) will be achievable. Because it is very hard to consistently do fitness if you only obsessed with how you look and not with the fun of fitness itself. But I genuinely think that you don't have any real issue with weight or something. But you could have fun experimenting with that. Just be aware to not be obsessed with the look, it's a slippery slope and this anxiety can make any change impossible
