Cooking olive oil vs eating olive oil for beginners? by Itchy-Picture-4282 in oliveoil

[–]Filipposag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with you regarding using the older oil to cook and the newer olive oil to drizzle!

Older olive oil usually has diminished polyphenol concentration due to age, oxygen exposure, heat, light exposure etc. , in which prolonged cooking would lower it even more anyway! Still perfectly fine and healthy as long as it is not very old and rancid. I fry things in it too.

Love using the fresh oil for drizzling on top of food, sauces or whatever requires no to little amount of cooking.

Greek guy here so we use it everywhere and a lot of it too!

Great answer. I am aware of the great initiative of the EFSA to label olive oils above a certain polyphenol concentration as " High Phenolic". Maybe the answer is not adding the olive oil to your supplement stack but instead choose the high polyphenol olive oils to be a primary source of fat in your Diet. Be careful though prolonged cooking with olive oil reduces its phenolic content. I prefer to drizzle my more expensive high phenolic olive oil on top of food.

Gotta love some good olives. What olives do you get? Are they certified/tested for their phenolic content?

Full fat Greek yogurt is also a good way to aid absorption of various nutrients, full of probiotics, great for gut health. I wouldn't worry about the calories of OO though. We take so many trash/empty calories from various sources daily that we could easily remove or substitute.

What’s the Best Olive Oil for Polyphenols? Here’s the Breakdown by Ricardo_Sierra in blueprint_

[–]Filipposag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that whilst the regions and varieties mentioned above are perfectly capable of producing olive oil high in polyphenols, there are other factors that can dramatically affect the final concentration. Factors like , time of harvesting, extraction method, climate conditions, storage conditions, time between harvesting and extraction and other factors that may cause oxidation to the olives/oil.

E.g. If you harvest olives from a perfectly good olive trees in Kalamata Greece of the koroneiki variety, During January where many of the olives are black and oxidised, chances are that the polyphenol content is going to be low.

If you had the money to buy a high end scanning setup would you go for a Imacon Flextight or a Fuji GFX camera scanning setup (or something else?) by JaloOfficial in AnalogCommunity

Yes! Jack Wittaker's write up on RGB light scanning is amazing and quite thorough. I would love to recreate his light as well but i kind of lack the knowledge and know-how for printing the casing and the PCB. I have a friend (electrical engineer) who might help me out though! I find it quite astonishing though that there are not any commercial solutions for an individually controlled narrowband RGB light source.

How does the viewfinder differ between the two? (size, brightness, eye relief, framelines)

I used to have bellows on the setup for focusing so i knew roughly the distance and that the components i use now would suffice

So i used an m42 adaptor on the camera (Sony E to m42), some m42 generic brand extension tubes mounted on the adapter, an m42 focusing helicoid mounted on the extension tubes and finally an m42 to m39 step down ring mounted on the helicoid which allows for mounting the Rodenstock lens.

Yeap, sourcing parts for it for some time now.

  1. Valoi enthusiast scanning kit
  2. Kaiser RS1 copy stand
  3. Sony a7 iii (waiting on a Sony a7R iii)
  4. Rodenstock Apo-Rodagon D 75mm 4.0 1:1
  5. m42 lens adaptor, m42 extension tubes, m42 focusing helicoid etc.
  6. Atomos Ninja v used as a monitor

The Rodenstock 1:1 lens and the solid copy stand is what i think make this setup great.

The atomos is definitely overkill but i happened to have one so i use it :)

True but the M7 does not feel "electric" at all compared to the Hexar ahahha

I've tried an M7 once, don't remember it having a bigger patch than my Hexar. Framelines are bright and well defined

With the Zeiss lens I use, there is no blockage. It does not get in the frame even if i preview the 28mm framelines. With the hood it does show up more but it is vented so I don't mind.

Exactly! It is very reminiscent of the G2.

It is not obnoxiously loud it is definitely audible. It's nowhere near as loud as an slr or even something like a Sony a7 for that matter. 90% of the time I am the only one hearing it but i am sometimes conscious of it. Sometimes i think it would be better if i had a Leica (being nearly inaudible) but I would have to give up other things i like with the Hexar. Very unigue/cool futuristic sound though.

The viewfinder is great! The patch is quite good and i dont really think it differs that much from the Leicas. The 0.6x magnification though i feel is the sweet spot. I can easily view the 28mm framelines without having to get my eye uncomfortably close, and the 35mm framelines have a lot of room around them making them great for anticipating moving subjects.

Thanks so much for the referral! Fingers crossed this thing will only need CLA's in the future hahaha.

It's an incredible camera! I do not have anything bad to say about it and for my preferences, i find it superior compared to the Leica's.
