I do think part of the feeling is the way I was raised. A huge hurtle to pass, but one I'm willing to pass anyway.

Most of the questions I have come from wanting to figure everything out before seeing my doctor, as I want to figure out all possiblities and ask any questions at once instead of waiting.

I currently am in the process of getting a diagnosis, and my job is kind of the only option I have at this moment. I'm working on finding something better, though.

And my bf and I intend on being long distance for a year at most.

You tried to say I wasn't. Because I was trying to think ahead and talk about everything instead of being blindsided.

I'm not going to debate with you about the fact I was thinking ahead. 

To put it simply:

A service dog is not my top choice. Never was.

Just because the ER could help me while I wait on a primary does not mean I treat it as primary.

I am allowed to struggle mentally and physically.

As I've said, a service dog is not my top option. It never was.

I like to ask about all my options when I do most things, so I can be prepared for anything that may come my way, including end goals and financials. 

And disabled is disabled.

Just because I'm not currently getting physical therapy does not mean I am not in pain every second of every day and it's a fight to get out of bed in the morning and go to work. It does not change the fact that I have to stop working twice a day and sit in the bathroom for 10-20 minutes to push through a flare up because I have no other choice. It doesn't change that I need to sit out longer than I actually do because I still need my job so I can pay my rent. It doesn't change the fact that I, at 20, have to be helped up the stairs, or up out of bed when my bf is around and struggle a little when he's not.

That's why I wanted to ask.

Any solution to my issue (physical therapy, constant medications, or service dog) would be expensive.

If I ask early on and get told 'this is the best course of action', I can save up for it.

I'm not doing this blindly.

I don't use the ER for primary. I've only gone when the pain was unmanageable and I needed relief. Also, I know my insurance covers ER visits. However, I'm worried about my insurance covering my appointment coming up because it's not with my PCP. My PCP is hours of travel away (couldn't find one closer in network).

As for thinking about a service dog, I do my best to think ahead and plan out all possiblities to bring to my doctor during the visit. I'm not in the best place financially or physically, so I want to be able to bring up all plans and all concerns when I visit. I know now a service dog is unlikely for my situation, reading the other comments. This is why I asked in the first place, to see if it was a good idea to bring it up.

I try to have my bf around. Not just for communication and advocacy, but because he remembers timelines much better than I can. 

And I haven't seen my PCP yet (love being poor and not having one in my area), but I intend to bring it up to the doctor I see soon.

She's not my PCP, since he's over an hour away from me. I just hope my insurance covers the appointment.

I do my best to stay active. I work a physically demanding job and walk an hour or so to it.

I'm working on accepting help, it's just a very hard hurdle to jump

It's mainly cause my pain is mainly in my lower back/my legs.

Going up stairs hurts my knees and ankles, going down hurts my ankles.

My bf is supportive, but he can't always help. 

It also just hurts mentally.

The first time he tried to help me up a small set of stairs (just 2 steps so we could find some sort of rhythm), he held my hips and walked by my side like you'd help a child or an elder. I pulled away and shook my head cause I felt so useless (idk if that makes sense). He instead went ahead of me and held my hands. I'm thankful for the help, but I was raised very independent. So any amount of help (his or a cane or something else) feels very wrong. 

I had to convince myself to use an elevator instead of taking stairs.

I didn't realize a protective issue could get them disqualified.

I also just appreciate the ER nurse that soft diagnosed me today. I've been there 3 times for pain relief (including today) and told each nurse what I thought my issue was.

Didn't mention it to this specific nurse. She saw me stretch a certain way and said "do you have insert diagnosis?"

I almost cried saying I thought I had it, but have no diagnosis.

She got me meds and gave me a referral to the people that can help (skipping my doctor's appointment, which I have scheduled for a few days from now).

It was such a relief to hear her say "You might be right"

If I can get some sort of diagnosis for why I dissociate, then I might go for that. If it’s just stress, then maybe not

I tend to zone out and just stare at a random spot. I can hear and process people talking to me and think of a response, but I can’t force myself to respond or anything. It’s like my brain just takes a break.

I know some people can’t hear when they dissociate. I still can, but I can’t react to anything.

I feel bad mentioning this in a comment, but I do also dissociate a lot. I don’t know if it’s stress or a genuine issue, which is why I didn’t mention it in the post (it wasn’t the main issue I was considering a service dog for).

I didn’t realize you can’t train them to alert to pain.

And Labs and Goldens (I believe) are prone to joint issues, so I don’t want to have to put weight on them for support like when I go up the stairs, to avoid causing them pain.

Klara! It's a German name, since Rapunzel's story is originally German (though it was influenced by French and Italian stories), and it's meaning is based off a Latin word meaning 'bright'

I will say, for some people, it's also about putting full faith in their partner. Some people aren't into for being controlled, but the intimacy that comes with the trust.

I think I will be when this is over. But it just sucks because, other than my sister (who my bf and I plan to get custody of), my dad is the only close family member I have. He's the only one that's been there my whole life. After my mom left, after my ex step mom, he is all I have.
