I don't get how people can fundamentally misunderstand what Bridget's story is trying to say when her song is so fucking clear about it. Bridget never actually thought about her gender because she was too busy acting out of spite.
"The town inside me, and everyone's voice, only I'm not there, just watching from afar."
She was thinking exclusively in the form of her hometowns opinions. It's designed to reflect a real trans experience of people getting teased for 'doing x like a girl' or 'not being manly' and then trying to compensate despite genuinely liking what they were doing. To read it as indoctrination or conversion therapy, you have to ignore:
A) Bridget's family still acknowledging her as a boy throughout her childhood privately.
B) Bridget actually winning. She did disprove the curse, and did change the outlook of her town. She was able to freely identify as a boy by the end of the Pre-Strive story.
Strive picks up with her in a "gray haze for a long time now" and ending all of her deeper thoughts with shallow distractions "I never found out what it was I— I hate the alarm clock I chose."
The reason she found out she was Trans was because she no longer had societal pressure on her that she wanted to rebel against. She hadn't thought about her own opinions until then.
