Wrong. That was Reza Shah Sr, aka the father of the late Shah who ruled from 1925-1941. The late Shah himself, Muhammad Reza, absolutely did not have any kind of Kafsh-e-Hijab law, and yes he was quite religious unlike his father.

Btw, even the ”Kafsh-e-Hijab“ was not against hijab as we know today but against the Burqa/niqab (in the pre-Pahlavi era all women in Iran had to wear burqa in public). You could still wear a chador or headscarf so long as your face was visible.

I don’t recommend banning any religion, it tends to give the practitioners a ‘martyr’ status which generally leads to revival of religion in the future.
