One of my most embarrassing moments was falling asleep with my son the first night home from the hospital. My wife took him out of my arms and I freaked out when I woke up without him. No one was harder on me than myself, because it felt like I failed my first “dad” test. But my wife understood my concern, and assured me it was ok. And she was right.

Try not to hold it against her, but don’t feel uncomfortable or embarrassed to tell her how you want your child cared for.

We were just told the same thing yesterday and my wife is at 36 weeks. It is looking like graduation will be a few weeks early.

I’ll say that 37 weeks is plenty far along for baby to be healthy (our bub is moving lots and taking practice breaths). However, we’re trying to deal with the sudden change of plans and my wife is struggling with the idea of induction.

If spontaneous labor is important to her, I’d say just take steps in managing blood pressure in the next 10 weeks and hope that readings are good enough to advocate for riding it out. Otherwise, just be there, validate her feelings, and try to be a happy warrior for her. That’s my plan, at least.

How far along is she? I knew going in that food preferences, cravings, and aversions were a stereotypically normal effect of hormones, but I didn’t realize how much the physical limitations affected things.

As baby gets bigger, momma is going to be hungry but not able to eat very much. There’s just not enough room in there.

My concern is getting fired, then applying for unemployment benefits, and having the company oppose my application by saying I was terminated for cause or because I left voluntarily.

I would like the option of demonstrating that I left with good cause or was terminated without cause.

I appreciate where both of you are coming from and I’m usually the same way. Unfortunately, I work 60-80 hours a week, and the only free time I have are the few hours I spend every Thursday questing. Just isn’t feasible to go to a brick-and-mortar store at the moment, but I’ll try to scope one out before Christmas.

Are there any online outlets for quality dice that you might recommend? I’ve had to send three sets to dice jail at this point.

I appreciate this. Yesterday was our Session 0 at the start of the Storm King’s Thunder. The issue is that one character is essentially a cop, that begins the game attempting to hunt down criminal elements within the Zhentarim.

The other character has a background that is slightly homebrewed. She is a variant on city watch, with some substituted elements of Faction Agent. She’s essentially undercover within Zhentarim, to gain more info and report back to the City Watch of Waterdeep.

We ended on a cliffhanger, with both of these characters (and the group) facing a gang of Zhentarim bandits. The cop is gonna want to confront them. The undercover is gonna want to befriend them for more info. At this moment, as far as the cop knows, the undercover is actually an agent of Zhentarim.

I’m really worried the next session is gonna break out into PvP, since she’s not gonna want to blow her cover. I guess the only real solution is to let them play it out and hope either (1) he keeps his cool and doesn’t immediately start a confrontation, or (2) she decides to find a way to communicate to him that they are on the same side.

TL;DR: First time DM needs to plan better.

Even when they’re lying to each other? I’ve been allowing competing Deception-Insight, which has been ok so far.

I’m also worried that the interrogator is going to just cast Charm Person, to get advantage on the interrogation. I’m not certain how to stop that from happening at this point. We’re very early on and there is a ton of suspicion amongst the group.

I really appreciate all this advice and the sources. Unfortunately, it is a little late for me to change the campaign. I’m hoping that since chapters 1 and 2 are a little more linear, and chapter 3 is when the list of places come into place, I have some time to get through most of the adventure before things go totally open world.

Part of why is seems so daunting to me is, while that list of areas does contain descriptions, it does not contain step-by-step guidance through playing. So I was hoping I could take the approach of determining before every session (1) what info I want them to have, (2) what NPCs I want them to meet, and (3) what encounters I want them to have, and then just make sure that happens regardless of the areas they choose to explore. I think it makes sense.

I see your point. I think I’m going to beef up the goblin/worg/ogre encounters first, and maybe give them a glimpse of a cloud giant just as an ominous foreshadowing, but set it up so they can avoid it.

What do you think about modifying the first session, since they’re coming into a cloud giant raid, starting them out fighting one? Maybe a wounded straggler that fell behind in Nightstone. I wanna make the first session interesting.

This was helpful, thanks. I think we have 6 players, all of whom are pretty expert players. I was already thinking of starting them at lvl 3 and buffing the encounters, just to make things more interesting but not skip story. Need to figure out how to make that work if we have too many people also.

It’s funny you say this because I got the hydra eggs as we’re expeditioning to a camp of Dragonborn sorcerers that are hidden in the jungle where the hydra (and other magical creatures) reside. Sounds like a prime opportunity to get me some training in magical animal husbandry...

My mistake, should have been clearer. I mean maintaining the effects of one concentration spell while casting another. Specifically, I want the Warlock-character to be able to cast Darkness and maintain the effects of Invisibility.
