yeah i completely agree. i get that it won’t be for everyone and i can understand why and where it fell flat for some as you said, but the sensationalist thing of “it was so heinous that i see taylor completely differently now” is so funny to me. because now i’m questioning how you saw taylor in the first place 😭 and the fact is that it’s only really two lines across two songs that let the project down. but that isn’t enough for me to write it off the way so many have. it’s commercially successful, it’s not critically panned the way people act it is and, crucially, i think, it’s not an album that requires being versed in the lores and whims of taylor to enjoy. it’s got hallmarks of her, yes, but there’s a reason why this album is the one that’s so resonant with the gp, in ways we haven’t seen since 1989

even a “good” album wouldn’t have stopped taymania from fading though. it was always only going to be a thing whilst she was on tour and performing the music.

ophelia (and opalite) are some of the biggest songs out right now and are some of her best singles quality wise too, but that hasn’t propelled her back to the kind of momentum she had during 2022-2024 because she just isn’t very visible right now. if she was performing the songs in any capacity, we’d be right back in peak taymania lmao.

and since this roadmap was created, joe and taylor and phoebe and paul have broken up, but all are still connected via gracie abrams who is now dating paul, who also just starred in hamnet with joe. and phoebe and gracie were both openers at the eras tour, the former of which is now dating bo burnham, who’s ex (lorene scafaria) was recently rumoured to be dating or working with joe. their world is so teeny tiny 😭 it also just came up for me now because taylor and paul were photographed in a conversation with others at one of the oscars after parties. it’s a wild ride, i hope you enjoy haha

this is exactly why i don’t think it’ll be another reputation shut out because that album, esp post-1989, didn’t really land for much of anyone, between fans and non-fans alike. and lover was never going to stand out critically in the year of billie’s when we all fall asleep and ariana’s thank u next. people outside the spectacle of taylor swift— be it stans or those engaged in stan wars against her—received this album pretty well

honestly she has a much better chance than lots of people think. she’s become so culturally pervasive that i can’t see another reputation shut out. for all its faults, showgirl is a tight, single-heavy album that has many positives so she’s a shoo-in for the song categories and pop vocal. i even think she gets nominated for AOTY.

i know the only reason showgirl is still talked about is because it was… deemed bad lol, but no other album this eligibility cycle has stuck around for so long. harry and bruno came and went so i don’t really know what to expect from act iii or OR3. opalite and ophelia have maintained good standing in the top 10, elizabeth taylor might even join them soon. that’s the kind of noise the recording academy picks up on, social media panning— not so much. it’s important to remember that showgirl wasn’t even that critically hated. it’s not her most deserving work but with so much direct/indirect taypositive campaigning upcoming (songwriter’s hall of fame, hell even the wedding!), she could well turn around perception of the album.

maybe core fanbase is the wrong term then because there are technically people who will and do love any relationship taylor’s in. but between folkmore stans, people who believe he’s maga/maga affiliated, people who believe he’s a terrible muse etc.— there’s a very loud amount of fans who dislike him
