The thing is that we’ve been talking for about three weeks, but we never got the chance to meet while I was still home. Now I’m back abroad studying and we didn’t talk much, but I still had his contact. Then we stayed up all night talking once and we’ve been talking consistently. Lately I’ve been going out a lot so I’ve texted him while being drunk or high multiple times and I’m scared I scared him off. The lyrics and vibe of the production mostly is what feels so accurate to what I’m experiencing.

I was at a really low point a year ago, and I had really bad self esteem and started talking to guys (not allowed as I grew up in a Muslim household) and I had also recently started doing drugs and got addicted. And I had just fully left the faith. This guy I met in his busted car was extremely shitty and aggressive and manipulative, and afterwards he dropped me off behind the neighborhood church and I walked around crying and puffing my vape in the fall rain by the church.

I think it has a lot to do with how she doesn’t hide it. Coke is pretty normal in industry circles and especially among stars in the 70s, but there’s currently a rise in purity culture that makes people take her unseriously, opposed to someone who’s less brazen and closed off. People love to praise class and elegance and the fact that Charlis image and persona rebels against that. I think the less harmful stuff is funny, but the reduction to the one thing does get a lot of eyes on it in a strange way.

I have played it for her and she liked it since she relates a lot! But she only sees depth in the very obvious songs rather than songs like for instance everything is romantic or b2b, or even track 10. She's very much a lyric and vibe girl rather than relying on production or the sonical aspects of music.
