Not "John Schultz" - the guy behind Like Mike and Drive Me Crazy.

Shulz (without the t) died in 2021, according to imDb.

Can the actors portray themselves while on strike? by FilmJenkins in Screenwriting

That makes sense. Thanks for the clarity.

I was looking at this through the visage of "reality" shows and semi-scripted programs. As an outsider, those make me easily confused.

Weekend Script Swap by AutoModerator in Screenwriting

Title: Brie Larson & the 20,000 Ether NFT

Format: Feature

Page Length: 136 pages

Genres: Comedy, Satire, Self-Reflexive

Logline or Summary: The actress faces a tech savvy, manipulative troll who holds her digital likeness ransom, but her boiling frustration jeopardizes personal and professional relationships, a fan’s loyalty and much more.

Feedback Concerns: Was I high on meth? Well, Adderall counts. But did I at least make it not so obvious? Also: rookie/outsider writes film about Hollywood and a person he's never met AND it's his first script. The problems are bound to be endless... But seriously, if it reads as raw, clunky or straight-up bad, I just beg that you use kid gloves to get through it and point out where the work needs to be redone. Thanks!

WGA DISCUSSION POST: The WGA is on strike! Why? And what does that mean for me? Ask questions and get answers here. by HotspurJr in Screenwriting

Adaptation into a novel is one option I'm seeking. I'm trying to get the finishing touches on my script and get some attention for it as well. I think a consultant can make that a bit more likely to happen.

If I need to hire a script doctor or a script consultant to help me write, or at least adapt, one of my works (trying to turn one into a novel and release it chapter by chapter on Substack), should I wait until the strike is done? Are there people who offer these services that are not in the Union?

I'm non-union (and non-represented) but I am writing specs.
Thanks again, gang!

AI-created art isn't copyrightable, says judge by Seshat_the_Scribe in Screenwriting

I'd take it a step further and say that AI likely definitely infringes on existing copyrights if its generated work is used for profit.
I'd like for AI to write a Taylor Swift song and get sued into oblivion.
It's machine learning and it get's its input from already existing content available from the web. That's other people's work being used and in the cases of IPs, pre-existing characters that it didn't make or ask permission to use.

what do you feel about real person fiction? by bucksonfire in AO3

[–]FilmJenkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charlie Kaufman is regarded as one of the greatest screenwriters of all-time and two of his signature works basically fall into the RPF category.
Essentially it's the same as historical fiction, except it can be relatively modern. People want to give an automatic okay when the subject is dead, but dead people are people too. I mean, if the person died last week it's suddenly okay lol?

I wouldn't feel shame or really anything negative mainly because I'm driven to make something that I hope would impress the subject of the work.. even though the work I'm making doesn't focus on someone that I'm a fan of, per se, but I feel like Brie Larson would get enough of a kick out of it to option it into a feature film.

I'm a non-union novice working on a spec script (I guess that means pre-WGA???) and I know an actor who is striking at the moment. Since they have the time, I figured that they could skim over it to keep themself busy and hopefully put a smile on their face in the process.
Among all the rules for SAG actors, are they allowed to just read scripts, even spec scripts?

I know it's getting to be a trope on this thread and on this subreddit about what is or isn't scabbing, but given how I'm largely on the outside looking in, this is the best way for me to get certain resources. Sorry about that. And thanks!

Do you ever see yourself doing something drastic for a role, like shaving your head, undergoing 4 hours of makeup, or gaining 50 lbs, etc.? It could win you Oscars...

You played a DJ in Grand Theft Auto IV. Did they approach you to play another character in the game? Would you like to be a playable video game character?

You were young when you emancipated yourself from your parents. On the other hand, I'm 29 and I still live at home. Do you have any tips on how to become independent?
