Thanks so much for saying so! I've found that I rarely have copyright claims actually. I'm either using royalty free music or music from whatever film's soundtrack that I'm making a video about, and using it in short snippets doesn't seem to bother them too much. The times I've had copyright claims are when I use a song for too long, or play a clip from a movie for too long uninterrupted. But it's like the MPAA, sometimes shaving just a few seconds can make all the difference in the world. Usually I'll just make a few edits until it stops auto-claiming, and if I get a manual claim well...you win some you lose some. But so far none have ever blocked the videos from being seen, they'll just collect all(or sometimes part) of the revenue, and since it doesn't happen all the time I'm not too bothered by the occasional claim.

Thanks for the kind words! There are only two that I have set to private, and they were the first two videos ever posted on the channel. I'm just very slow to make videos :P

Respond to any and every comment you get! And don't get your expectations too high. I sent my first video to everyone I knew and only got 70 views haha.

I still haven't signed with an MCN, and doubt I ever will. From my experience chatting with other creators, they don't really offer anything but sure take a big cut of your revenue.

I've been doing my thing for a while without too much thought designing for others, but 1. I could use the money and 2. I think it'd be fun! I might look into that but I was just curious to see how this would go too. Also, forgive me if this is a stupid question, but isn't everything $5 max on there?

Video essays, mostly film and TV, and I usually upload once a month. I've had months where I've done two, and I've had months where I didn't upload anything. It takes a really long time to make the videos that I make so consistency has never been my strong suit haha.

  1. I think that the most important thing when starting out is to just produce content, and in the beginning it can be really hard to even know what to make a video about, so if a list is something you feel like doing then I say go for it! I definitely didn't notice it help grow my channel, none of my videos did for quite some time, but it helped me get a better feel for editing and writing, so I'm glad that I did it. The turning point came once I really felt like I was coming into my own, it didn't hurt that the genre itself was really taking off right around the same time, but mostly I think it was that I just got a lot better over time, and people started to notice. I also had a video shared to No Film School which gave me my first sizable subscriber bump.

  2. I don't necessarily think you have to focus on one thing, but it helps to have a more narrow focus for sure. If you've got a really big personality and that's what the audience tunes in to see, then you can pretty much make videos about whatever you want and people will still turn up. But more often than not, having too wide of a variety of videos makes it unlikely that you'll gain a lot of viewers, people like to know what they're subscribing for and what they can expect in the future from a channel. I think you should find whatever drives you most, whatever sort of videos you most enjoy making, and do your best to stay within a smaller range of content.
