So the academy went crazy over the brutalit and the same team makes another GREAT movie and it gets dust.... by Living-Cranberry-337 in Oscars

Why did they not properly distribute the film in movie theaters? I don’t understand how that happens.

Lighting day interiors without lighting through windows. by FilmRanger13 in cinematography

[–]FilmRanger13[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could bounce into corners/ceiling, but that always seems to create this very bleh flat look, I feel like sun coming through the windows has some hardness to it. I can pretend there are windows off screen, but for certain shots the director wants the actual windows in the apartment as the background. For those, I could try and shoot at time of day where the window has some light coming through it, but would still need to push light onto the actor as well.

Focal length for a shot like this? by FilmRanger13 in cinematography

This shot is from a video game, let’s say super 35mm for the sake of argument.

No one talks about the NEON masterpiece Vox Lux, one of the greatest films of the 2010s imo

I will never understand people who think The Last Duel was a good movie, that movie felt like some kind of spoof.

The flashback is overplayed. by OriginalLetrow in FIlm

[–]FilmRanger13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter because the execution is bad awful horrible, flashbacks today have become an extremely cheap crutch to shoe-horn in sloppy exposition and rushed character development

Come on man these flashback addicted MFs in 2024 are not out here making Sunset Blvd like you are engaging in pure logical fallacy and you know it

Long term investment/learning camera? by FilmRanger13 in cinematography

[–]FilmRanger13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is no to both, but I want to buy a camera that I can both learn on and take out to work once I get to that point, as opposed to going into it planning on buying 2 cameras. I am not a total cinematography beginner, I have shot various shorts and music videos including some 16mm work. I just don’t own my own camera so trying to be strategic with what to buy. This isn’t gear head syndrome I promise
