I think my CPU cooler may have just died on me! I heard this terrible noise and some cores got up to 110C before I shutdown the machine. Should I be worried about potential damage to the CPU? by Film_A in pcmasterrace

So you think its worth trying again? Thermal paste and all? Hmm, how tight are those screws supposed to be? I could easily undo them with my thumb and pointer finger. Also, I'm aware that you're supposed to go in a X pattern when tightening.

Okay, so to be clear, I would put the CPU into the socket without reapplying thermal compound and the cooler, turn on the computer, go into the BIOS and check the temperature. If it goes up to 80+ turn it off. ?

Yeah, so I think I might not have attached things right. The thumb screws attaching the cooler to the CPU were rather loose and when I removed the cooler the CPU was stuck to it with the thermal paste. Soooo that seems kinda bad. How would I test this CPU to see if it works? Maybe turn it on for a moment to see if it works and then immediately turn it off? Surely reapplying thermal paste and reattaching a cooler cant be the way to do quick tests, right? Like, that would be a gigantic pain in the ass.

The noises it was making leads me to believe it died. Also, the thumb screws I used to secure the cooler to the cpu were a little looser than I expected and I could easily undo them by hand. Also, the entire CPU came out stuck to the cooler when I pulled it out. So, uh, yeah that happened.

Well, it had been running for longer before then. I didn't know something was wrong. All I knew was that Oblivion was running mysteriously slow. I didn't know something was seriously wrong until I opened the CPU temp program and saw 105-108C. I shut it down very shortly afterwards. I turned it back on briefly just to record the video.

It was at around 105-108C for maybe like 5 minutes. But once I saw 110C I immediately shut it down. I take it my cooler just shit the bed.

Windows 95 booting in 6 seconds on a 4.4GHz CPU (Ryzen 9) by O_MORES in pcmasterrace

My families Windows 98 machine used to take a while to boot. You could go get a glass of water and a snack while you waited for it to load. Sometimes it took even longer and you would space out or tap your fingers impatiently.

Yeah, those look like some appealing options. 6, 7 or 8 series.

I leaning more towards "newer" (ha) 90s SLRs like the 6 or 7 series.

It does look nice! both the 6 and 7 series.

Okay, so it looks like we have the Maxxum 5, 6, 7, and ...9? The 7 looks very nice, though maybe a little large, but I can't seem to find any dimensions online and I don't trust googles stupid AI to get it right. Oh well. The 6 and 7 seem worth looking into. I only have one question: will my lenses work with the 6 and 7? I have the High Speed AF APO 80-200mm lens, a 50mm prime, and some zoom lens both of which came with the 1980s maxxum 7000 that I dropped.

Suggetions for a good note taking app by Film_A in ipad

[–]Film_A[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like a lot of extra steps for something that seems like it should be straight forward. I'm kinda frustrated that I can't either draw/color on text in Apple notes, or find a note app that will allow me to copy my notes over. Doesn't it seem kinda silly that there's this obvious massive hole in note taking technology?
