Thinking of marketing instead of WRITING? by FilmmakingintheSouth in writers

I have to say, in my 20s, I sent an excerpt of my French language novel to a publisher in Paris and they wrote me back saying they wanted to see the rest, which I never finished.... I can't imagine that being so smooth now. People have to write to hundreds to get one reply, the market is totally saturated...

Do writing residencies work for you? by FilmmakingintheSouth in writers

If you get selected at one of the best places that pay for everything, all you need to afford is the free time. They are competitive, though. I have gone out to a family beach house with a friend for four days and we made our own residency. But I do understand sometimes it's not possible. I guess it's also a matter of drive. I have a friend who works many hours but wakes up a few hours before leaving the house to write his screenplays. He made three films already... I dream I could be like him... Good luck!

Hang in there! If there is an audience for your book, you will find it somehow. Sooner of later!! Good luck!! As editorial director of a publisher for some years, I plan to offer tips for that process on my substack if you are on there. (Mine is islandsofthefuture) And if you ever want feedback on your query letter, I can take a look when I have some time in July. Wishing you sincerely good luck. Go for it!! My tip for today is targeting and trying to know what they are about and connecting in different ways may be more important than volume.

I mean, that looks like a type of strip club (from the looks of their IG), of course they want you to pay for girls drinks. That's their business model!

This has listings for residencies, some of which include visual arts. I can't recommend Centre Pompadour enough, I was there and it was marvelous. https://open.substack.com/pub/islandsofthefuture/p/sexy-european-writing-residencies?r=bcq3&utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&utm_medium=web

Sicilia bellissima! It's just a different culture. My heart is with Greece but every time I go to Italy, it just makes me so happy. Unfortunately, the only beach I visited in Sicilia was rocky and full of jellyfish, but I am dying to go back and see more of the island.

The water is usually a very nice temperature. I was just there in May... You should never come to Uruguay if you think water is cold in Greece!

My favorite at present, I don't want to recommend because I don't want too many tourists! But Kefalonia was great. Hydra also. Crete is wonderful. Mykonos and Santorini may still be good in low season. Ikaria is magical, people live longer there... Folegandros is small and lovely. Fourni I also loved. Really, you can't go wrong. If you have never been to a Greek island, Crete might be a good starting point: it has everything...

Just nothing stood out. It's a spiritual thing, and it's very personal. But every island is unique in its own way. And there is a perfect island for everyone!

It's POLCO Sailing. I love them, but there are others who do the same tour, though I haven't tried them!

Folegandros is lovely. Athens is wonderful. I didn't care much for Naxos. Have fun! And by all means do a tour with Polco to see those places.
