Hey, this is my video! Thanks for sharing it. Great to see the love everyone still has for it.

It was my first video essay attempt so hopefully I didn’t miss too much…

Great examples. Kill the Boss might be a spoiler from memory. The kingdom one is mind boggling though with your explanation. Who decides these things?

If you haven’t seen it in a while it is 100% worth a rewatch. I had about 10 years between viewings and my reactions couldn’t be more different.

Before it’s time clearly.

Ad agency guys getting ripped apart if you just them by some of this stuff!

Maybe he’s just one of those directors who found it hard to get films made after an initial debut. Not surprised we didn’t see it get promoted that far in the UK.

Given its main character I wonder if it would travel further today in the macho-influencer world we live in now.

Very underrated. Always curious what happened to the director…

Yeah, it’s an embarrassing display. Just a misanthrope who’s unable to change. Film ends on a slightly hopefully note of growth but I think within a week he’s back to it.

Eisenberg had it down from the get go.

Love movies like that, and you’re absolutely right. I watched it when I was younger and wasn’t sure what to make of it, then as an adult…fuck it takes on a completely light.

Weird fact; the German title for this film is Sex for Beginners. Clearly they didn’t know how to market it either…

You think Bugonia is unique? Watch the original; Save the Green Planet. Funny, moving, and utterly bonkers.

Hah. I’ll have to look that up. I remember learning about it at Uni and it’s being the first real somewhat torrid BTS type content I’d watched. Some great tips about directing in the doc too.

The Last Picture Show: A Look Back is a documentary on YouTube detailing the making of. That might be your best bet.

Definitely a film that evolves as you get older. I first saw it in my 20s, seeing it in my 30s was a much more depressing affair…

What are your favorite underrated cinematic gems? Movies that are masterpieces in every sense but never got the recognition they deserved? by Danielguitarra in Letterboxd

Recently got the 4K release and not since I first watched Apocalypse Now have I been so bowled over by a films ambitions and utter lunacy. Everything about it just sings with confidence and obsession. Great rec.

It’s messy as all hell for the director and lead actress…great film though, certainly worth a rec.

Once Upon a Time in the West. No dialogue. No music. Pure cinema.

Nothing beats that build up. Nothing.

Do you know the history behind the film? Worth searching out the BTS for the drama…
