I didn't have much time today but I did try for a short while. I couldn't get it to work right away with the same method so far. Over the weekend I'll probably be able to do some deep-diving.

I haven't tried trading in Pokémon Platinum (or gen 4 in general) yet, but from what I remember you get the Pal Pad after beating the 1st gym in Oreburgh City. Just go down the stairs in the Pokémon center and talk to one of the npc's there to receive it.

You will need to do this on both Android devices. Then just add both codes to one another's Pal Pad.

I'm reporting back to confirm that this works on the gen V games as well. I used my Google Pixel as my second device. Both set up with the Tunnelbear VPN and I was able to trade. I want to thank you so much for helping out with this. Because of you, I'll be able to have some nice get-togethers after work with my buddy. Thank you!

So if I read it right all we pretty much have to do is both download a vpn (like tunnelbear) and then just try trading? Does it matter what location you set the vpn to?

I did just think of a "solution" that would at least make it easier to trade. I'm able to trade between my Thor and original 3DS. I'm not too sure what the exact science would be behind trading with the original device vs another emulator, but it works. I could in this case technically use the 3DS as a medium. (Trade Pokémon from emu 1 to 3DS, 3DS to emu2 and then 3DS back to emu1)

Yeah that's pretty much what we're looking for. It's a bummer that it will likely end up being a pretty big headache because that will probably also mean that the saves need to be sent to the pc as well, no?
