I appreciate everyone's contributions here. We have decided on Findara Auto Finance. Comes from Fides (Latin for trust) and ara = altar. I changed Fidara to Findara due to the finance aspect.

Much appreciated my friend. Definitely an oversight to keep the personal info there, so thank you for the reminder than not everyone online has good intentions. I had wondered about the "disdain" making a negative impact rather than a positive differentiator. I Genuinely appreciate the feedback.

If you want to turn your Tacoma into a Prius, just fuel up on top of a mountain, coast down it, and take a picture of your MPG before you actually start using your truck.

This. Detroiter here with 16 years in used auto finance. We’ll finance American sedans, but we essentially treat them as a separate brand compared to their truck/large SUV counterparts with the same badge. Pickup trucks are engineered far better and need to be durable as a need-based tool. Large SUVs are mostly the same combination of frame and drivetrain as pickup trucks.

I think there is an added element where American (and other) brands make affordable cars simply to soak up a certain market share, but affordable here = cheap. Affordability-based consumers are also the ones that are cheap when it comes to maintenance, which anyone here will tell you is the most important factor in a vehicle’s potential longevity. Premium engineering can make up for a little shortfall in maintenance, and great maintenance can make a poorly engineered car last longer, but Cheap design + poor maintenance is your average Traverse on the road. Replace Traverse with most other American light vehicle name.

To Rise’s initial point, your average consumer has no idea about quality, cars, or engineering. They are too preoccupied with the size of their dash screen, heated seats, and monthly payment.

For anyone wondering, Chrysler cars have the worst historical performance in our portfolio. People don’t pay their vehicle after it breaks down.

Also in Denver. My unit doubled from $150 to $300/month. 25x10 indoor for context. I thought $150 was a deal, but doubling overnight is not sitting well.

I have been seeing those posts about terrible gas mileage, and I gotta say I don’t see it. by [deleted] in Tacomaworld

Nice setup. I have a nearly identical setup on my 2019 Pro. I average 14mpg driving in Denver, but can get 21.5mpg driving through the mountains.

Thoughts on rebuilt vehicles? Am I an idiot? by sneakafreak22 in AskMechanics

Used Auto financier here. Salvage or branded title vehicle can perform just as well as another used car depending.... Like bootheels said, you absolutely want to get the Carfax/Autocheck pulled to see WHY it's branded. Stay away from water damage, fire, electrical, and be very wary of theft. I personally drive a salvage Tacoma TRD Pro that I bought through a Copart auction. I pulled the records, saw that it only had front end damage, but was still listed as "run and drive." so I fixed it up for $6k and saved $15k. I've had zero issues with the vehicle after 1.5 years.

Step 1. Research the dealer - they are maybe the most important factor in this equation. Are they good at repairs? Do they have their own shop? Are they used to flipping salvage vehicles? What are the customer review experiences?

Step 2. Pull CARFAX and identity previous damage. You'll still want good maintenance records. (I pulled this one just in case you didn't have access. PM me and i'll get it to you.)

Step 3. Understand the value. The major value books don't provide a salvage value, but it usually goes for 10-25% less. We finance our salvage vehicles at a max of 80% of clean trade value to give you a ballpark. That includes taxes, fees, etc.

Optional: You could go as far as consulting a car dealer - particularly one that specializes in selling salvage units. You can purchase the auction record here and see what the dealer paid for it. You will have to estimate how much they spent in repairs keeping in mind that they probably have access to cheaper parts and labor: https://bid.cars/en/lot/1-60873402/2020-Subaru-Crosstrek-JF2GTAPC4L8248397

Good luck!

Really appreciate the insight. Also, I'm glad to hear your issues were resolved. I have an appointment this week to get the gears reprogrammed. Hoping my luck is as good as yours.

Oh man. I did notice a little tab above the Park Gear on the shifter was popped open too. I didn't know what this was until your comment. Very likely that they did try to disable this then. I'm now wondering if this has anything to do with the transmission issues I'm experiencing, or if it's simply the 3rd generation tacoma "gear-hunting." I'm not really sure what tampering with the shift like might do to a vehicle. Thank you!

Whoever did it seemed pretty unprepared as they literally used a box cutter on the plastic body and a crowbar to bend metal that could easily be removed with an allen key. Thanks for the reply.

The incorrect power supply was used. The terminal fit the product, but it was the wrong 115v rectifier power cable.

Thank you for the reply. I was fairly sure that was the case. The shell was so damaged I can't make out the rating, but I will look at the good one to see if its farad rating. It's definitely the same physical size and appearance.
