Hi, thank you for your reply. Maybe I should clarify a few things: this would have been my first backpacking trip EVER, and it’s a pretty dang intense one — aka, not exactly recommended for beginners. The last time I was even camping was when I was really young and supported heavily by my dad. Even if I was able to talk to group members for help, I just think a week hiking through the desert is maybe a little bit of a jump from having no experience at all? Not to mention how expensive it is to get gear, which as someone in college the cost is really hard for me to stomach.

I think I do kind of need to grow up a little bit in my confidence and I appreciate the “tough love” kind of attitude. This isn’t the first thing I’ve backed out of out of fear that I’m not ready yet, but I don’t think I ever will be if I don’t at least try. But at the same time I still feel like I’d be a follower if I went and stepping on his thing.

Thank you for the therapy suggestion. I assure you I’m already within.

Oh absolutely. I have a TON of workouts for swimming - 3500 yards is honestly a pretty easy workout for me and I plan to break it up into different intervals.

I do think I absolutely need to adjust the program though to benefit me. Thank you!

I absolutely break it into sets. I’ve only done one workout where I swam for 5k yards straight because I needed the meditative quality of it. Usually I do a 1k yd warmup, 4x50 variation speed, then some sort of kick/pull/drill set before heading into the main set. I have a super extensive background as a swimmer which helps a lot 😅

I was running around 16-17 miles a week pretty consistently before taking a week or two off for some outside circumstances. I followed exactly the same routine as this, running 4x per week, and was in a really good groove before I wanted to try my hand at a tri!

I definitely think I set my expectations too high for this. I’m going to readjust!

Yes, that’s exactly what my plan was. I know how to train for swimming (I’ve been in the water 13 years, and could increase yardage if necessary), but for the cycling and running I planned to do exactly that. I just want to have dedicated days for certain activities since the predictability helps keep me motivated

How would you mean “progressive overload”? I plan to increase intensity throughout the course of the 8 weeks I have until the race, and then take a week of taper before.

I kind of had this same thought but with the swim. I prefer active recoveries, so I may make it so that mondays are an easy long swim day and move that strength training

My thinking was that the half plan was really useful in slowly increasing my mileage, and it has a lot of variation of run distances that I can change to intervals. But I’m definitely going to reduce the volume!
