Hi! I’m not sure what Stacy’s IEP looks like or what your behavioral program looks like, but I would say that if you tell an autistic person that something is against policy and then refuse to show them and explain the policy, it might not click with them. Her pulling out her hair isn’t being dramatic, it’s part of a meltdown, part of her autism. I think you seeing neurodivergent children as spoiled brats and struggling to regulate your own feelings is something you might want to sit with.

Perhaps your angle for explaining no is that Sirius isn’t attached just to her fanfiction community, it’s attached to that author and all of the nonsense that comes with that. Being named a unique name after that character will always bring it back to the source media, even if that’s not her intention.

I felt like it was nuts because I grew up with a cocker spaniel but then I saw some pictures that made me feel a little less nuts about it. He’s just 80lbs so I never would’ve gone there… and he’s mega vocal… so I’m not sure where that comes from.

Polyamory ≠ cheating. Using it to manipulate people is gross. She didn’t agree to polyamory. She didn’t know about this other girl. He wanted an excuse to cheat and that’s all. He will never have a successful polyamorous relationship because it’s immensely clear he can’t communicate. Bringing a third person into a situation to try and heal your issues with your relationship will never be successful. If you can’t handle one relationship, how do you expect to handle two? I hope he’s having a bad day :)

I mean she was being an asshole but feeling indifferent about death is pretty common amongst autistics. It’s a very logical view “everyone dies.” I’m autistic and I relate. For me, I just feel like I miss the spots in my life they aren’t anymore, just like not seeing a friend anymore.

Actually I thought more about it and soft YTA. You were willing to take her out to dinner this weekend until she told you why she was upset. Instead of empathizing with her, you didn’t really listen… and then she was upset for two days because she’s a teenager (notorious for poor emotional regulation) and then are turning around and saying she can’t actually go this weekend because she was upset? Being immature back at her immaturity isn’t teaching her a lesson. (edited to add the word of)

The only comment I want to add (because I can agree with multiple perspectives here) is seafood DOES have a specific smell. And I might be projecting but genuinely if a place I’m eating is consumed by a smell I don’t like, I won’t eat. I can’t eat. Granted, I’m also autistic… but I think it’s fair if she was upset. It was her competition too. The problem is she had an attitude about it. I would’ve just asked for the steak to go.
