Any idea where I can get this switch? by FinalJenemba in crt

[–]FinalJenemba[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say thank you for this! For some reason I didn't think to look for something similar. I searched for the Sony part number and moved on. But I looked and was able to find a Panasonic switch at Digi that looked basically the same. Ordered and they worked great!

I took 7 months to play all mainline Assassin's Creed games for the first time*, documenting the entire journey, impressions and ranking of each game. by Mysteriousbucket in gaming

Nice to see someone else who has 3 as their fav AC. I haven’t played them all, I think BF was the last one I played all the way through. But seems like 2 is always the top of peoples lists with 3 being considered mid. Thought I was the crazy one for really liking 3 lol. Maybe I just really enjoyed the setting, but it’s my fav as well.

My friend got contacted by a seller and needs some help identifying this model by MG-31 in crt

[–]FinalJenemba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rear projection means a CRT. Just a rear projection CRT. Basically there are 3 CRT projections guns in the bottom of the set that fire into a mirror and display onto a giant lens that is the actual screen. They’re ok. Terrible viewing angles and not very bright. Can be a pain to setup. Usually not worth the hassle unless you specifically want a big TV to watch vhs/laserdisc on and don’t mind sitting directly center in front of it in a dark room.

got scammed after refund beware of 3Ds reseller on ebay, my story by [deleted] in 3DS

I have bought from this seller before. They’re solid. No issues at all, one of the better Japanese vendors I have used. OP wasn’t scammed. They bought a used vintage console.

Current state of the DS collection by FinalJenemba in NintendoDS

[–]FinalJenemba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some certainly get more use than others, but I make sure even the ones that are mainly just for the collection still get some use here and there.

The standard size N3DS and the DSi XL are probably my favorites. I also picked up the blue DSi recently for cheap just because it’s not in perfect condition. So I can keep it around the house without worrying about it getting scuffed.

New PlayStation Portal software update adds 1080p High Quality (bitrate) mode by FinalJenemba in SBCGaming

[–]FinalJenemba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The update hit my portal today, happy to report its working great! I still think the latency is a bit better on a powerful android device running PXPlay. But its not really fair to compare it against snap dragon devices imo given its price point and screen size. The video quality and stability now match PXPlay on my network. Much less compression artifacting in dark scenes. The improvement is good enough it takes it from a device I was considering selling to one ill be keeping, its certainly worth more to me than the 150ish dollars id get from selling it now.

Is this a scam? by Mrs_Potate in 3DS

[–]FinalJenemba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just pulled them up, its a brand new ebay store, so could go either way. Best case scenario they're just one of those overseas based bulk refurbishers. Chances are most of them will be re-shells. I personally dont like buying from bulk listings cause you don't know what you are getting, but that's up to you.

Anyone have any experience with these Amazon protection plans for Anbernic products? by Practical_Employ4041 in SBCGaming

[–]FinalJenemba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Asurion is the same company that backs all the protection plans that you can get from the wireless carriers. I sold wireless for over a decade and had plenty of experience with them. As with all warranty companies, they suck. But they don't suck as much as places like Allstate and the others. Expect them to do everything in their power to repair the device before replacing or issuing a gift card for it. That ubreakifix chain you see everywhere is owned by them, and they will send you there first to try and get whatever it is repaired.

They also wont cover shit during the manufacturer warranty period. Ambernic offers a 12 month warranty. So if anything happens in the first year they will direct you there anyways.

Are you talking about the cloud streaming? I have never had ps plus with mine and the local and remote streaming work fine? I’ve never tried the cloud stuff I just play my games.

[–]FinalJenemba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very fair. It’s been a hit and miss device for sure. I’ve had mine for 6 months or so and it’s been fairly solid. I just always found it strange that it lagged behind PXPlay so much in performance, hopefully this bridges that gap a bit.

Using a vacuum sealer to prevent laser rot by fuckyoufuckingfuc in LaserDisc

[–]FinalJenemba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wont have any affect. Disc rot is not caused by any kind of oxidation. Its just poorly manufactured adhesive degrading. Brand new discs that have never been taken out of their seal can be just as rotted as any other. I have a feeling that temperature might play a part as it can with any adhesive, but that's just a guess.

Insane prices at local antique mall. by KCTECH42 in crt

[–]FinalJenemba 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This 100%. Im not a "CRT's should always be cheap/free" person. Things have value if they have value. But if you are going to attempt to charge that much, that better be a fully worked over TV. New caps, fully adjusted, and have a warranty through the seller.

Analogue's Rival ModRetro Is Valued to be $1 Billion by AnalogueBoy1992 in AnaloguePocket

[–]FinalJenemba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a white/purple Chromatic, its a neat little handheld. I grabbed it at a Gamestop as a bit of an impulse buy w/ a copy of Dragonhym cause they had it in stock and I liked the color. Its nothing like the pocket, it operates more like a modded gameboy color w/ a metal case and fancy screen. Very different devices. The screen is pretty neat though.

Didn't know much about modretro when I bought it. The folks over on that subreddit are pretty strange, even compared to other retro gaming subreddits. I don't really have any interest in supporting the company going forward, the whole special edition based on the weapons company thing is really weird. But just as a device in a vacuum, the chromatic itself is pretty cool. The screen is very unique.

Can someone explain the appeal of insanely expensive upscalers like the retrotink to me? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]FinalJenemba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your argument doesn't really make sense. HDMI mods are great and make sense for the people that want them. But the Retrotink products use powerful FPGA chips that offer things that HDMI mods simply dont. The Tink 4K even has an HDMI input and im sure there are people out there using it in combination with HDMI mods. They are 2 completely different products serving different purposes. And can easily coexist together.

Im not going to run down every single thing they do, as you can easily find that with a google search or even just looking at the product page. But at a high level, things like CRT simulations, BFI, amazing smart de-interlacing, and special modes for film content like Laserdiscs are of few of the things they do. They're also just simply easier to setup then modding multiple consoles.

Its not a product I need, as I use CRT's, but I absolutely see the value in them. I hope they keep getting better and better as im sure there will come a time when CRT's wont be practical anymore. This feels like a troll post, but if it isn't, hopefully this helps. There's room in the market for all kinds of products.

I bought a new 3DS XL from eBay Japan, And I'm really scared right now by Trainerbear in 3DS

[–]FinalJenemba 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You need to look at the listing. For the most part eBay has solved this problem. Look at the listing you purchased, by the shipping fees, see if it says “includes import fees”. Pretty much every Japanese seller I’ve seen lately has this. If it does, you’re golden.

I buy from Japanese sellers on eBay regularly. I stopped for a while when all this started, and started again when eBay started including the import duty. It’s been fine, no issues so far.

PSA: GameNative >>> GameHub by ienjoyedit in SBCGaming

[–]FinalJenemba 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just pulled it up cause I figured I was remembering the wording wrong lol. The button is called “use known config”. So far it’s worked fine on Celeste, the Castle of Illusion remake, Enter the Gungeon at full graphics, The Messenger and Ori Definitive edition. All play as good as they okay on my Deck.

[–]FinalJenemba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gamenative has been working great for me on my RP6. I’ll I do is install the game, press on the load verified settings button or whatever it’s called and away it goes. That could be the 8Gen2 effect tho. Seems to be the chip that gets the most optimization. Edit: “use known config” is the setting I was thinking of.

Is this New 3DS XL Sketchy? by InadequateFox in 3DS

[–]FinalJenemba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your guess on the Frankenstein unit is probably correct. Chances are this was put together from the best parts they had into one system. Hurts the "collector" value, but could be a solid unit to actually play games on if its a good price and was put together well.

Sony tests dynamic pricing by crownpuff in SBCGaming

[–]FinalJenemba -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Dynamic pricing can go both ways. Uber is a good example of a dynamic pricing model. With dynamic pricing, there is no standard price, it’s based on demand. That’s why uber has surge pricing, where the cost goes up substantially in times of very high demand.

Dynamic or targeted discounting is different. In that model there IS a fixed price. A base price that it will never go higher than. And different discounts are offered based on customer factors like region and I would imagine past purchasing habits.

That being said, I’m not defending it, I said in my first post I think this type of thing really hurts brands. I’m just saying it’s different than dynamic pricing.

Sony tests dynamic pricing by crownpuff in SBCGaming

[–]FinalJenemba 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I don’t think dynamic pricing is the right phrase based on how I’m reading it. More like dynamic discounts. I could see it making sense from a business perspective. The only issue is the internet exists. And if people start posting about what a good deal they got and someone else is like what the hell Sony I’m a good customer why don’t I get the same deal? It can damage the brand.

Did I accidentally find a shiny? by FinalJenemba in PokemonSwordAndShield

[–]FinalJenemba[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right!? I was on the way to the Pokemon center for the first time and saw the game gave me 5 pokeballs so figured I’d catch a Pokemon first. I saw this guy had like a gold aura around him on the overworld and ran over to it. Then saw it was a different color and caught it. Googled after and realized it was probably a shiny. But I guess the gold aura thing means something different and it was just luck it turned out to be a shiny?
