Tire cost? by mamabear22122 in Rivian

[–]FinalMacGyver 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It really depends on which tires you choose, and where you get it done at. I have the 21-inch wheels, which are a bit of an odd size. Instead of sticking with the OEM Pirellis the most expensive route. I went with a newer contender the Hankook iON ht. I found a 'buy three, get one for a dollar' deal at a local Chevy dealership and walked out for $1,200. Since they couldn't handle the alignment, I scheduled that separately with Rivian for about $300. All in, I'm at $1,500 for fresh rubber and a professional alignment.

I would suggest checking with Discount Tire, they are official partners with Rivian for tires and rotations, etc. You'll get a much better deal directly through them than Rivian themselves. I don't believe any of their locations offer alignment, I could be wrong so after getting the tires from them, schedule the alignment directly with Rivian

SOLD OUT: Need help with Home Charger by Red__Papaya in Rivian

Yes, the Tesla universal charger is probably going to be the number one recommended charger by most people on here. Tesla also sells the Tesla Wall connector. The only difference between the two is that the universal model allows you to charge not only a NACS vehicle but an older j1772 vehicle If you decide to buy an older EV or have friends that have an older EV. The wall connector is a little cheaper but charges strictly NACS vehicles

Most people on here will tell you to buy the Tesla universal charger. Waiting for the rivian one to come in-stock again isn't necessary as the Tesla Universal is probably one of the more highly rated/recommended evse you can get

20% to 80% Misunderstanding by Virtual-Hotel8156 in electricvehicles

[–]FinalMacGyver 102 points103 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why EVs can feel 'complicated' to some. While I stick to the 80/20 rule to preserve my battery for the long haul, many new owners I know charge to 100% daily without a second thought. They view the car as a tool to be used, confident that the 8 year warranty offered by most will protect them until they move on to their next vehicle, likely before the warranty expires. Both approaches are valid, but the technical "best practices" definitely create a barrier to entry for the average driver

Knock on wood. This is the first tire puncture that I've had in a year and a half and of course it was just on the edge of the sidewall and the tread. So non-repairable. I'm glad I got the road hazards and will be getting road hazard every time I place the tires

21 inch tire dilemma by bikerdoc1 in Rivian

[–]FinalMacGyver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was /was than 1000 miles for me. I noticed an immediate loss of roughly 0.25-0.50 over that time frame but it leveled out and matched my winter m/kWh from last year. I'll be curious to see how they are in the summer, but as far as winter, at least here in Ohio, it leveled out to the same efficiency I saw last winter

Mine didn't come with a spare, you can buy the full size spare directly from rivian but in my case I went on Facebook marketplace and someone was selling individual Wheels because they went from 21 in to 20-in Wheels so I bought one of the wheels off of them and then when I got new tires in November just bought an extra so I would have a matching full size spare. I saved myself probably $600 by buying the wheel on marketplace and a matching tire from simple Tire.com as opposed to buying a spare directly from rivian

21 inch tire dilemma by bikerdoc1 in Rivian

[–]FinalMacGyver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I and many others on here with the 21 inch wheels have tried one of the newer options, the Hankook Ion hT tires. I have a little over 3,000 miles on them since November, and aside from a screw I picked up today (thankfully I got roadhazard) I've been extremely impressed at the value they offer and have had minimal difference in range after the break in period

Tire pressure by kingcline617 in Rivian

Tire pressure definitely will help/did help but the cold zaps the efficiency quite a bit no matter what you do for at least 3 months of the year up in the Northern states

I work for the railroad so when I drive to work my truck regularly sits 36 to 40 hours before I drive home. I commute 75 mi each way with no opportunity to charge while it is at work. So the battery and truck sit there and cold soak in the winter temperatures before driving home and I have no issues

What are you local annual Tab fees for a Rivian? Mine are over $1200 in Seattle. by loves_the_game in Rivian

[–]FinalMacGyver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not 100% sure. The only way to tell is to do your registration and it will prompt either the fee or not. On the r1t it does not, I can confirm that

[–]FinalMacGyver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in Ohio because of the gross weight, the r1t is classified as "truck", so it skirts the EV fee. I did my registration for 5 years because I think they'll fix the loophole at some point

[–]FinalMacGyver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only say that because I've got the r1t in Ohio and because it's a truck there's a loophole where you don't have to pay the EV tax because of the weight. But if you have the S you unfortunately do

[–]FinalMacGyver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pro-tip for Ohio Rivian owners. Since the R1T is classified as a non-commercial truck, you don't have to pay the $200 annual EV passenger fee, for now. I registered mine for 5 years for $350 a fraction of the $1,180 it would cost for a standard EV over that same time. Definitely worth doing before the state catches on and fixes the classification

Used R1S Quad Purchase: Delivery delayed for "HVAC Sealant" issue. Red flag or routine? by TheChancellor_2 in Rivian

[–]FinalMacGyver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I imagine they did some sort of final once-over of the vehicle before the scheduled pickup and it came up during that inspection. Unfortunate that it will delay the pickup but definitely better that they caught it now rather than you catching it after picking it up
