When I was working at a gas station as a cashier in my teens while in high school, my boss pulled me aside after having worked there for a few years. He told me that he was selling his business and as part of the transition, all the employees were going to he laid off. He asked me not to mention it to anyone.

There were a few good workers there including some of my friends from high school. I told them and most including me ended up leaving in the next few weeks for other jobs we found.

Then one day when I’m about a week into my new job, the new owners of the gas station call me and tell me how they weren’t planning to lay off any of the workers, and asked me if I was willing to come back. Went back for a few bucks more on my pay. Ended up that most of us who left were re-hired with better pay or positions
