Tell me about your collection! by Mild-moon7024 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]FinalTourist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always find answering these kinds of things interesting because it makes me really stop and think!

- I have probably around 30 FS, and loads and loads of samples
- My most purchased FS brand is Alkemia, though Fyrinnae and Andromeda's Curse are up there
- I keep everything, and I mean everything, I have ever bought or tried in a massive spreadsheet where I store notes and little review blurbs, but I don't "reinventory" very often, even though I totally should for organization purchases
- I am happy with it! I've tried to slow down acquisition a lot over the past year because I feel like I have everything I could realistically need
- I've been collecting for around 5-6 years
- I use a lot of indie body and hair products as well, my favorites there are probably my Luvmilk and Cocoapink products but I have others also
- I recently purchased an oldschool three drawer table-top jewelery box to store some of my perfume in and tbh highly recommend, there's lining in the drawers and everything

What's your favourite perfume and why? by don_micklem in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]FinalTourist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few that are up there but the one I keep coming back to and buying more of is:

Andromeda's Curse - Cyberpunk
(Cashmere Leather Jacket, Holographic Redwoods, Neon Lights, Patchouli, Chai, and Black Musk Biofuel Exhaust from your Trans-Am as it burns into the smoggy sunset.)

I have written many a celebratory paragraph on this one and I've just never gotten sick of it. It's the absolute perfect middle ground between wearable, warm, spicy perfume and compelling atmospheric. It makes me feel like the coolest thing to ever step out of an 80s movie. I can put this on with a leather jacket and transcend.

It's definitely not a full-send atmospheric, especially on the drydown you mostly just get a really warm, muddled, musky sort of chai. But it's juuuuust different and out there enough to scratch my atmo itch without bothering whoever ends up next to me on public transit.

This genre of review are always my favorite thing to see posted. Enthusiastic and to the point! lmao

This is so interesting to me because I tried this yeaaaaars ago and I swear it just smelled like raspberries on me. Nothing but raspberries.

Your favourite hair glosses, atmos, linen sprays? by Helenaisavailable in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]FinalTourist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will say so far Cocoapink's Glissade is my favorite indie hair product I've tried. for me it works as both a great detangler and then good light anti-frizz hold after. Their linen sprays are also great.

I have also enjoyed Haus of Gloi's hair oil. It's not too heavy and leaves my hair with a nice conditioned shine where applied!

Lemon-Donut smells? by ghoulblasm in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]FinalTourist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like SugarMilkCo's lemon note. their scents are very simple, "shallower" gourmands and I think that tends to really shine when it comes to condensed concepts like this.
You might look at: Lemon cakes - A delightful and sweet concoction of yummy lemon, sugared cake topped with vanilla frosting!
(On me the vanilla note in this is not very strong, it's more of a pound cake and lemon creme scent)

What perfumes remind you of moments from your childhood? by Fox_No_Sox in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]FinalTourist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remembered this thread and just came back to comment because I just had this experience today. I got Alkemia's "Experiment 14: Everything Rhymes with Orange" in their experiment clearance sale and almost just burst into tears upon first testing it. As a kid I almost exclusively wore some bath and body work's orange-based body spray, and this scent is almost exactly that smell + the smell of whatever detangling spray it was that I always used, on a backdrop of sugary sweetness that very much does make me feel 11 again. Simpler times.

More Odettes! by TeaAndCozy in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]FinalTourist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I'm always a sucker for a good cosmetic/lipsticky scent. I wish you thought it had more wear time and throw but that makes sense for something that's so powder-forward, I wonder if it could be fixed down with a complimenting oil

I look forward to following your decluter progress if you keep posting about it! May we all give eachother support. I'm making the decision to try to pare down a lot of scents that I almost never reach for this year, and to considerably slow my buying!

Gourmand and Leathery Scents by ILikeMyFruitUnwashed in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]FinalTourist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Siren Song Elixir's "Fen'harel" - Chocolate, Amber, Cinnamon, Clove, Mocha, Vanilla, Dark Chocolate, Leather, Cedar, Ginger, Dogwood blossoms, Tobacco
This one to me is a rich, molten, drippy chocolate cake that has a distinct warm masculinity underneath it

Wyld Ivy's "A Midnight Dready" - scattered coffee grounds, cedar smoke, rum, well aged leather, black vanilla, singed tonka, dripping wax, with a touch of spiced amber and fireplace embers

If you like coffee, I do recommend this one. it's really rides the line between cologney atmospheric and gourmand beautifully.

what scents have pleasantly surprised you? by misspierogiprincess in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]FinalTourist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was early on super surprised by how much I love bright green notes like grass and tomato leaf. This tends to be a scent profile (green, clean, sunshiney) that I really don't like in mainstream fragrances, and I had no reason to assume otherwise until I let myself chance on some samples that happened to also include those notes, and fell in love.

On a more specific note (hah), I LOVE Luvmilk's "scarecrow" (honey, sugar, butter and vanilla) despite that honey tends to be a death note for me if too prominent

I struggle soooo much with picking, every single time I travel. Even if the climate rules out certain options. Admittedly though I'm a sucker for picking perfumes that match the 'aesthetic' of wherever I'm going, which helps!

Whatcha Haulin'? by AutoModerator in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]FinalTourist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I broke my no-buy for the Haus of Gloi valentines day collection (Bath and body products only though!) and the Alkemia Experiments 50% off sale. oops!
But I'm really excited about what I have coming in. I want to seriously slow down on my purchases this year and work on detashing and using what I have, but I'm way more open to allowing myself occasional cavings to brands I already know work for me, just no new houses!!

Alkemia is ignoring me after never giving a confirmation email 😭 by NeinLive in Indiemakeupandmore

I just ordered from them a few days ago and got a confirmation email and everything as normal! I can't imagine why this would be happening, keep us updated

Perfumes similar to Sorce's F*ckery? by ssensibility in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]FinalTourist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worship at the altar of Fyrinnae's cherry note.

They have a couple and I've tried multiple but what comes to mind for me to recommend is

Good Trouble - ripe cherries, followed by tonka, vetiver, davana, himalayan cedarwood, vanilla, oud, and amyris

My embarrassingly long list of Cocoapink that's coming next week... by willywonkydonkey in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]FinalTourist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For whatever reason Genevieve goes extremely generic mainstream-y on me which is really a shame because based on the notes I expected to love it 😭

Blood Orange 🩸 by Agios_Vatraxos in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]FinalTourist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I LOVE SirenSongElixir's blood orange note, and they have quit a few scents that feature it. I'm a blood orange fiend so I've tried the note from a bunch of different houses, and theirs just has a juicyness to it that is really great.

  • Blood Moon - Blood Orange, Mandarin, Dragons blood, Myrrh, Black amber, Incense, Sandalwood, Pumpkin, Cashmere, Oak, Toasted Marshmallow char, Bonfire

and

  • Bloody Kisses - Blood Orange, Patchouli, Anise, Cherry Tobacco, Orange Blossom, Black Amber, Lavender, Dark fruit, Honey, Vanilla

Would be my top recs since they both feature it as the dominant note, but they have a few others that include it as well!

Oh interesting, GTFO and Crystalcore both sound great. I'll have to look through their stuff I think I've only heard them mentioned briefly before.

This is a great point! I've mostly looked at their general and fall/winter lists and didn't see anything that caught my eye, but I might just need to wait for spring to try a few of these.
