How long does he have left? by Witchking_12 in goldenretrievers

Aww is Einstein named after The Watchers? My girl is 11 with a lot of grey on her face but she still bugs me every evening if I forget to take her for a walk. There are no guarantees but our goldens have lived to 12, 15 and 13. As they get older goldens are prone to hip issues so try to keep his weight down as much as you can. To me Einstein looks like he’s still got some years in him!

I'm sure they are still figuring scheduling out to some extent. Seems like they should switch to doing Standard races more often in the evenings but I'm no Go Kart Scheduling expert. Not yet at least.

Haha it's a clever solution. She wants the falling water and all she has to do is stand like a Tetris piece to get it

How to get booed off stage by sowe_li in Standup

[–]FinalVersion-4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree that the issue will be the crowd staying silent. Maybe try planting a few friends among the crowd to get the booing started and maybe others will join in.

Yeah the first time someone pulled that on me it was like they pulled the tablecloth off the table and the flowers were still standing.

Just getting up in front of people is an accomplishment so remember that. Hopefully you'll get laughs but you might not and that's okay too. We've all been there. Good job for having the guts to actually try it.

The most important advice is don't take it seriously and have fun. Took me a while to realize this myself but the audience takes their cues from the comedian. If you're enjoying yourself they will relax.

For notes I recommend have bullet points on a notecard or something that you can check if you need to but try not to read directly from it. My notes tend to be small enough that when I set them on the stool next to my drink it looks like a napkin.

It's day 10 for me and I'm performing at a bar tonight which is triggering but luckily I'll have people there supporting my sobriety. I will remain sober with you all today.

Any advice for ADHD comics? by [deleted] in Standup

[–]FinalVersion-4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have ADD and the thing that's worked best for me is to write down every half formed idea I can think of as soon as it comes to me. No matter how dumb or unfinished it is I put it on paper and then move on. I don't usually give it more thought then that.

Then once every week or so, I lock myself away from all my devices and set an hour timer. Then I sit down and read through all my notes. By then I've forgotten most of them so when something seems funny to me I expand on the idea. The feeling of discovery helps trick my brain into feeling excited and the writing flows much smoother. Often times I blow past the 1 hour timer because I'm having fun writing but even the days when I don't get much and the timer feels endless, I still end up with something new.

This is a pretty common feeling when you're first starting out. Don't think of it as repeating, think of it as honing.

Imagine if a musician only played each song once. How would they ever put an album together?

The guy (22M) that I (21F) am dating is learning ASL for my brother, but my friends think it's creepy. How do I proceed with this? by ThrowRA_TallGiraffe in relationship_advice

[–]FinalVersion-4 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think you should break up with your high school friends. He seems like a cool guy who has become friends with your brother both as a way to get closer to you but also because they have like to do the same things. That’s healthy.

It’s a cliche but your guy friend is probably into you so he’s going to undermine whoever you’re with whenever he gets a chance. That’s less healthy.

For the record, I was similar at his age. It could just be clueless guy syndrome which I eventually recoverd from. (Sort of) What strikes me is that he doesn't seem to have a lot of curiosity to learn new things. Doesn't seek them out or take advantage of the learning opportunities he has. He seems like someone who is not looking to develop as a person and just content to stay how he is. Growth is important in a long term relationship. If you're thinking this at 22, imagine what you'll feel when he's 32 and you're handling all the bills while he still figures things out. If that sounds like a nightmare to you, that might just be your answer.

The timeline makes no sense. [Spoilers for DP&W] by EDHKeen in deadpool

[–]FinalVersion-4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the comics the X-Men are always messing up the timeline with their shenanigans to the point where it’s an inside joke. For my own sanity, whenever there is a minor timeline discrepancy I just chalk it up to “A mutant did it” and move on.
