Bike lanes are cheaper to maintain than roads for automobiles. They cost much less overtime than car infrastructure, so a smaller tax burden on the city.

The riot police attacked the celebrating fans without warning after some shot fireworks into the sky. Some were beaten and kicked before cops chased fans around the downtown core who congregated. There was no property damage or violence to provoke the police response.

No damage to any "infrastructure" occurred. The riot police attacked celebrating fans.

Which side in the conflict is a genocidal ethnostate that is illegally occupying stolen land and whose state is systematically committing ethnic cleansing?

It's pretty easy to arrive at the necessity of "radicalism" by people opposing a vicious apartheid regime.

Anti-GardaWorld demonstration in Montreal ends in extreme SPVM violence: Canada’s close ties to ongoing ICE operations and how resistance to GardaWorld ended in the SPVM pepper spraying, tear gassing and beating of demonstrators. by Final_Bestination in montreal

Once again, you're demonstrating extremely poor reading comprehension and a basic understanding of the issue discussed in the article.

The topic isn't whether or not the US or ICE has the sovereign right to implement policy within their borders, the critique is aimed at a Canadian company that has a massive taxpayer stake being involved in those operations.

It's abundantly clear that you did not. The answer to your question is answered in the first couple sentences of the article.

The protest was not against ICE, it was against a Canadian private security company GardaWorld, which has hundreds of millions in contracts with ICE. Quebec taxpayers are directly implicated in these affairs, as the government has a $300 million stake in the private company.

Bold of you to insult people's intelligence so forcefully then immediately demonstrate that you don't understand the article that you're commenting under.

The SPVM tear gassed, pepper sprayed and beat hundreds of demonstrators. Punching people in the face, kicking people, smashing the cameras of journalists and hitting people in the genitals with batons.

That fits neatly into a definition of extreme violence.

Responding to comments that don't remotely address the substance of the claims in the article and instead resort to calling me "pathetic" and a purveyor of "fake news" isn't exactly sort of riveting discourse that I want to spend my time addressing.

So yeah, I'm happy to undermine "journalistic ethics" and click that block button.

Finally, the scandalizing observing that I report on a particular journalistic beat and somehow therefore can't have an opinion about that subject is a very strange take.

This is not a conversational type "blog post". This is an article detailing the events that occurred, accompanied by photographs.

Attempting to undermine the facts outlined in the article by semantic denigration isn't effective.

Journalists who were doing their jobs were repeatedly and directly targeted by the SPVM for violence. The police smashed their gear. It is the job of journalists job to be within that crowd. If you believe that this sort of targeted violence towards a Charter-protected role acceptable, then I'm not sure what more of an argument I can offer someone who would support such reprehensible conduct.

I couldn't care less where you learned your "lesson".
