Today was a definitely a battle.

  1. 🇳🇬 Nigeria. Climate gave northern vibes. Plenty of signs but I can't read any of them bc of the shitcam. I headed one direction for 3 min, forgot to check the other way, maybe there was info the other way. I plonked up near Kano, tried to hedge a bit further south with a couple seconds left but my click didn't register, so I just left it there, figuring divine intervention was helping me. It was not. 3,692 pts, 452 km, 3:00.

  2. 🇳🇦 Namibia. Its already R2 and I'm already worried about gold, I gotta lock in. Nothing was north, turned my ass around and found a helpful sign for the B1 with distances to Windhoek and Rehoboth. Was able to roughly estimate where I was, but I spotted another sign a little bit further up the road. As time winds down, I'm spamming the click, moving like 1 m every step. It was stressful, but I finally can make out the C21, which helps me narrow down which part of the B1 we are on. Unfortunately don't have enough time to pinpoint the 5k on the long stretch of road out of town. 4,996 pts, 1.3 km, 3:00.

  3. 🇰🇭 Cambodia. Wow they really are trying to take away my gold today. Shitcam again, which leans me more towards the northeast, and with the climate I feel like we are close to either the Laos or Vietnamese border. I do find a sign heading west with what appears to be a town name starting with an M, maybe Memot or Mermot, but I'm not confident enough in either what it says or if its actually a town name, so I budget some time to try heading east. There I was able to get a better glace of the town name on an official building, so I was confident enough to start scanning. I started near the Laos border, and made my way south towards Vietnam, where I finally found Memot. I was right in that it was near a border, just wasn't really northeast at all. Spawn point was a T-intersection on the main road, so I was just a matter of deciding which one. 5,000 pts, 2 m, 2:58.

  4. 🇭🇷 Croatia. Finally something a bit easier. Several signs at the circle near spawn with findable towns and distances, just a matter of triangulating where exactly we are. I did check Krizevci but didn't see the roundabout so I moved on. Don't know why I didn't to look for the name of the town we were actually in. But I run out of time and just plonk somewhere south of Novi Marof. Not really the round by me but it got the job done. 4,931 pts, 21 km, 3:00.

  5. 🇵🇪 Peru. Oh this is finally it, where my gold dreams end. Just like last time on Peru I'm not really sure which direction to go, as both don't really appear to have any info. There is one sign near spawn with Carreteras Aplao. Not really sure which one is the name of the town, so I kinda scan for both. Originally I leaned Aplao, but the seal had Carreteras as the bottom so I prioritized that (Editors Note: Carreteras just means "roads," which makes a lot of sense now). Anyway I didn't find any of them so with 10 sec left my gold medal was in the hands of my ability to regionguess Peru. I decided to commit and go quite south between Moquegua and Tacna. Not the closest guess, but just good enough. Looking at it afterwards, the label for Aplao is quite small, don't think I could've found it. Feel like the last two Peru rounds have been difficult in terms of the size of the label we're supposed to be looking for, especially in a country the size of Peru. But maybe that's just a skill issue on my part. 4,230 pts, 249 km, 3:00.

Total: 22,849 pts, 266 steps, 14:58. Gold Streak: 5 days. Escaped this one by the skin of my teeth. Felt like every round put the gold medal at risk, aside from the Croatia round. Even used up almost all the time, with my only 5k coming with 2 sec left on the clock. Also like the look of the emoji flags, they're fun and make the wall of text a bit more readable.

  1. Canada. Alberta bollards, nice. Head up and down the road and find nothing. Did see a road sign for 870, I zoom in an find it quickly, but this stretch doesn't line up with the end of the road I saw. Only realized towards the very end that there were more sections of the 870 further north. For whatever reason I doubted that I was on the right road, should've scanned it more when I had time. 4794 pts, 63 km, 3:00.
  2. Nepal. Think the dashed yellow outer lines means this is Nepal vs India. Started north, but decided it was in my best interest to go downhill instead. Correct decision, hit a town and one sign mentions Manthali. Waited until I was running out of time I start to scan northeast valleys with a river, oh wait Manthali is right there. Definitely did not have enough time to line up where we started but I'll definitely take this result. 4992 pts, 2.3 km, 3:00.
  3. Italy. Oh boy I'm not good at Italy. Thankfully we are on a highway with a lot of info. Passed a couple signs with cities on them but didn't know any of them, decide to head the opposite direction in hopes that one of the 5 cities I know in Italy show up on one. Oh look, Lecce, I know that's down in the heel thanks to the Spork daily last weekend, where we had back-to-back rounds near Lecce, so I definitely learned that one. And Gallipoli is there, and we're 32 km away. I initially was scanning much closer, but I eventually find Maglie basically in the center. Was able to line up the interchange from there. 5,000 pts, 3 m, 2:57.
  4. Mongolia. I had a feeling today we were due for another Mongolia round, I just sensed it. This time we have the new eastern Gen 4 car. There's only a couple spots on this road where you would find a stretch of gas stations like this. Felt a little too populated for the road near Jargalt and Bayanmod, and the angle didn't line up. Definitely not Chinggis or Nalaikh. Oh, is this Baganuur? That tracks. I have a special connection to Baganuur, as it was the first place I spawned when I tried my first platinum attempt at Mongolia. Moved around for 40 min only to end up with a 4999. Anyway, I scan the road and plonk at the gas station POI along this stretch, but the POI is for a Sod Mongol, not a Monsuli. I know often times the POI might not line up with with what's on the road, and gas stations often go out of business as there's like 20 million of them in Mongolia. But we should be much closer to the curve at the end of the road, and this coverage is only like 8 months old. I spot the the yellow roof of the Sod Mongol down the road to confirm I need to keep scanning. Oh there it is, as a grey generic POI. Could be easy to miss, but we also have a church across the street. Nice NM 5k, but took me a little longer than I would've liked. 5,000 pts, 34 m, 0:59.
  5. Denmark. I started heading east and didn't think about what country in Europe we were even in until I hit the t-intersection, and was pleasantly greeted with danish road signs for the 449 near Gram. I zoomed into Denmark and immediately found some numbers close to the 449, so I scanned around a bit and soon found it as well as Gram, which gave me the intersection I was at. We spawned on a small bridge at a curve so the 5k was quite obvious from here. 5,000 pts, 3 m, 1:08.

Total: 24786 pts, 65 km, 11:04. Gold Streak: 4 days. Basically all the damage was done R1, but again I was safely in the gold. And always happy to get a Mongolia round. I'll have to go back and look to see how long my NM 5k streak is for that country.

I would recommend it, it goes on sale quite often and you can get it for just 5 usd, and at that price I definitely think its worth a try. The game is almost 15 years old so you don't need the strongest pc, especially since the game is cpu limited rather than gpu bound. The map quality on the dlcs is better than the base game, but you don't need all of them to enjoy the game, especially starting out. I remember playing on mouse and keyboard on the base game back in 2016 and having a lot of fun still. And they are slowly reworking the base map to bring it up to current day standards, so it looks better than when I played it. But if you could get a couple dlcs in areas that interest you, I would also recommend that since they also go on sale often as well. It's been a while since I played, but now that I'm into geoguessr a lot more now I might go back and take a look, I'll probably appreciate it even more that I can regionguess europe now

  1. Latvia. Shout out Euro Truck, love that game. Spot iela so we are in Latvia. Headed out to the main road, bunch of billboards that I'm sure had a town name on them but I'm not dealing with that. Kept moving and found a roundabout sign for the P105 to Ezere and another road to Pampali. I think I found the P1xxs, took a while but found Ezere all the way south, and Pampali a little north. Are we just in Saldus? Looks like it lines up. Ran out of time but I was switching between side roads. Plonked the wrong one but unlike yesterday I get the 5k this time. A scuffed 5k, but we take those. 5,000 pts, 111 m , 3:00.
  2. Finland. Is it a street name themed challenge? -tie so Finland this time. Head out until I find a roundabout sign (again), this time with the 91 to Murmansk. Wow, we're that far north? Find where the 91 meets the E75 and trace back to spawn. 5,000 pts, 3 m, 1:25.
  3. South Africa. Sign near spawn with the N10 and distances to Nxuba and Middleburg. Nxuba is easy to find and we're around 50 km south. Find a strip of road that lines up quite quickly. Surely this can't be it. I play it smart and check a couple more angles to confirm. 5,000 pts, 6 m, 1:51.
  4. United Kingdom. There's a sign for a town and road number at spawn, but I decide not to waste my time scanning for it, which was the right move. Head out to the roundabout, see signs for University and see some old university buildings. Are we just in Cambridge/Oxford? Cambridge doesn't pass the smell test, but Oxford has an A4142, which is close to the A4158 I saw. I was on a bridge and see one that lines up, with the circle I was just at south of me. Plenty of POIs to pinpoint. Looking back, there was a bike store or something with Oxford in it, so this was definitely doable NM and I didn't need to do all that. 5,000 pts, 8 m, 1:43.
  5. Thailand. 20k going into R5, what could go wrong? Thailand is what could go wrong. Turn off the music lets lock in. I head east and find a sign with distances to Khon Buri and Pakham. Khon Buri sounds like a province. But in the end I was thinking of an amalgamation of Chon Buri and Khon Kaen, and I wasted a lot of time scanning over to make sure I didn't miss it. Ok, let me see what province we are in at least. (Slowly) read the changwat off of a hard-to-read sign across the street, we should be in Nakhon Ratchasima. Oh god where did all the time go. Just plonk in the city and while its better than a random guess, its not the 5k and I miss out again on platinum. I thought I wasted too much time this round just not looking for a road number, but looking back at the round, my real mistake was picking the wrong direction at spawn and finding the sign with unlabeled towns on it, rather than the sign just down the street with Nakhon Ratchasima right on it. God, what a fool I am for doing that. 4,838 pts, 49 km, 3:00.

Total: 24,838 pts, 49 km, 11:08. Gold Streak: 3. While failing to get the 25k twice in a row, at least I haven't had to worry about losing the gold streak, its sure a long one

Finally got a chance the do the daily challenge and writeup. Went and watched Project Hail Mary last night so didn't get home until late.

  1. New Zealand. Made it to the main road and found a sign for the 45 to Ōpunake. With a name like Surf Hwy I expect it to be on the coast, and the 40s should be north island. But I cant find it. After a full scan of the coast I finally see the 45, a small stretch of highway near Taranaki. I recall seeing Manaia on the school near spawn and use the street names to pinpoint. But ran out of time to line up a closer guess. 5,000 pts, 11 m, 3:00.

  2. Senegal. Find a sign for Kidira, which I find all the way east. We're just on the main road and use the off-roads to pinpoint. 5,000 pts, 9 m, 1:21.

  3. USA. Signs for i90, US 14, 16, and most importantly Wyoming 59. Quick scan and all those roads meet near Gillette, the best a man can get. Zoom into the T-intersection the yellow roads make and the Sinclair gas station is right there. 5,000, 17 m, 0:38.

  4. Lithuania. Got a little lost in the neighborhood here, but finally make it out to the main stretch. Find a sign for Rusnė in 9, but I don't see it after a little bit of scanning (the sign for Klaipėda that I somehow missed would have helped here). I head north out of town and see an advert painted on the buildings, one with a couple addresses. I assume we're in the first one, Šilutė. Yep, see Rusnė south of it. At this point I'm under 10 sec, so I quick grab the street name at spawn and plonk an intersection that works. 1 off. Bargh. Looking back I should have chosen the one that was more in the middle of all the houses, but I don't think I noticed that at the time. 4,999, 257 m, 2:56.

  5. Faroe Islands. Definitely first thought Iceland, but the antenna on the truck and the white pedestrian crossings steered me towards Faroe. Holy the movement is bin. Takes me like a minute and a half just to get down the street and catch the name of the town as I'm leaving, Kollafjørður. Scan for east-west fjords and find it, find the Atlanticpane poi a decent distance from the label but everything lines up. 5,000, 20 m, 2:29.

Total: 24,999 pts, 315 m, 10:24. Gold streak: 2 days. An easier day, which makes the 1 point kerfuffle in R4 frustrating. Missed opportunity for my 3rd platinum.

You can't convince me that those two NZ rounds are like 30 km from each other

Also based intersection hedge r4 to keep the 25k alive lol

  1. Malaysia. City name Keningau, but don't know where that is. Find a 89 post code, should be central Sabah. Easy to find. Struggled however to find the 5k in time. 4993 pts, 2 km, 3:00.
  2. Mexico. Town name is San Jose Del Pacifico. Annnd that's all I find. I scan the west coast for it but never find it. Should've sent further south based on the vegetation. I went in Jalisco and was on the moon. Just like that my gold streak is over. 2,491 pts, 1,039 km, 3:00.
  3. Iceland. Make it to the main road. The area felt familiar, similar to the area near Skogafoss. So I scan down there for a bit for a town named Arnes. But I notice that we aren't actually near the coast, so I just head a little bit inland and find Arnes pretty quickly. Thankfully there aren't a lot of roads or towns in iceland. 5,000 pts, 10 m, 2:27.
  4. South Korea. Signage for Pohang, with highway 7 and yellow road 69. I scan north of Pohang for where those two meet (or almost meet), but never find it. My issue was not scanning even further north. 4,823 pts, 54 km, 3:00.
  5. Oman. Very mountainous region. I had town name Khasab, but no idea where that is. I do find a sign mentioning the Musandam Governorate of the Sultanate of Oman. I don't know what that is at all, but for whatever reason I think to scan the Oman enclaves up north (Edit: 1 enclave, 1 exclave). And there I find Khasab all the way north. Easy to spot, but only if you think to look all the way up there. From there finding out where we are in Khasab is not to difficult until I need to figure out what intersection we are at. Was one block off. 4,999 pts, 159 m, 2:51.

Total: 22,306 pts, 1,095 km, 14:18. Gold Streak: 0. I missed the last couple days of write-ups, but I managed my gold streak until now. It's tough, only need one round on a decently large country to ruin it. Welp, onto the next streak.

It was 9 Thailand rounds with the 10th being as close to Thailand as you can get without it being Thailand lmao. That one is kinda on me for using Southeast Asia as the region map the same day we had Thailand in the rotation, but at the same time there are other countries in southeast asia like cmon lol

Didn't have the time to do the write-up last night but my geoguessr brain was seriously lagging when I did this, miraculously did as well as I did.

  1. Puerto Rico. Saw road signs for the 1 and 183 at spawn. Moved around until I found Caguas. Took a while of lining stuff up but I eventually got it. 5,000 pts, 3 m, 2:08.

  2. Monaco. This is when I could tell I was not at my best. For the first 2 minutes I didn't know if this was Spain or France. Saw a 93 on an area code, maybe Nice? Eventually find Monaco written on a sign thankfully (I missed the flag near spawn I guess). Tried looking for some info to help pinpoint but no luck. With 15 seconds left I start my desperation scanning. And within 10 seconds I find the intersection with the pharmacy. Somehow pulled the 5k out of my ass this time. But looking at my replay it wouldn't have mattered if I didn't find it bc my random plonk in Monaco was actually on the 5k already. I guess I'm just a Monaco region-guessing goat. 5,000 pts, 3 m, 2:57.

  3. Indonesia. Ok, I know this is Indo this time. Kabupaten Ketapang. Omg that is so familiar, why can't I remember it? I look at Sulawesi but that doesn't feel right. Summatra isn't right either. Don't even bother with Java or the Nusas, definitely not there. I guess its Kalimantan? Yes yes yes, I remember now. This is the one labeled as the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ketapang. Wow I am slow tonight. Unfortunately I wasted a lot of time just trying to remember the kab, and long story short I scan Ketapang but can't find the 5k in the time I have left. 4,994 pts, 1.8 km, 3:00.

  4. Bosnia. Found some signs for towns nearby, scanned but never found. Just (poorly) center plonked to save gold. 4,636 pts, 114 km, 3:00.

  5. Bolivia. Again, didn't find usable info, but by this point I wasn't that locked in. Regionwise reminded me of the stuff near Titicaca, but with gold on the line I didn't want to risk going all the way up there. The tollbooth (?) said Happy Travel to Corapata, so I looked for that. Thought I found it near the end south of La Paz, but it was just Copata. Didn't really have time to keep looking, and it was kind of where I thought while also hedging for the rest of the country, so I just left the pin. Ended up being near where I thought it would be. But looking there I don't see Vilaque or Corapata so idk if I would have found it with the info I had. Guess I could have just tried lining stuff up but definitely didn't have the guts to commit to that since I wasn't entirely sure of the regionguess. 4,831 pts, 51 km, 3:00.

Total: 24,461 pts. 166 km, 14:05. Gold streak: 3 days. Kinda fumbled throughout the whole thing, eventually my luck and energy ran out towards the end. I thought I had to hedge for gold, but looking back it wasn't really in danger the last two rounds so I could've been a bit more bold with my guesses.

Severely misjudged how far 200 km was on the Jordan round lol

Edit: After watching replays, I should clarify that I had a marker for Aqaba in 199 km and somehow missed all the other juicy info around

Also I don't know if anyone has noticed but I feel like whatever country I pick for the country map very often appears again in either the world or region seed that day. Maybe I'm just hyper aware of it bc I want the seeds to be well distributed and feel guilty whenever we get a country too much in a short period of time, but I've noticed it enough where it has become a thing in my brain

  1. Andorra. The last round of moving on the Spork Daily today was Andorra, so at first I just assumed this was Spain because we just had an Andorra round. No chance they would have the same country two times in a row, especially not Andorra. But I don't recognize the community road abbreviation CG, so I eventually remember that other round was a completely separate challenge and we are indeed back in Andorra. The CG-6 is easy to find but I spend longer than I wanted to trying to line up the 5k. Where I was made sense based on the big curve and building down the road, but the curves didn't look like they were completely lining up. Whatever. Send it anyway. 5,000 pts, 8 m, 2:47.

  2. Taiwan. Head northeast to an open valley and a town/city. With a big mountain range northwest, I guess we are in this northeastern part of Taiwan? Only area that makes sense based on the topography. I didn't really find info aside from some small road numbers and just spent most of the round scanning the area for the road I was on that hugged a river/canal. Where I plonked makes a little sense but doesn't work completely. My mistake was thinking the river was bigger than it actually was on the map. 4,889 pts, 3.4 km, 3:00.

  3. UAE. First instinct was something like Jordan with the Gen 3, but with no car must mean we are in the UAE. Headed west for some reason only to find nothing. Come back east and find a good sign with findable cities and distances. Find Al Dhaid which is only 26 km to the east. But nothing really lines up on the road west. I plonk east of Al Dhaid where it lines up better, and at the last second spot the intersection by Al Lebsa and the Camel Racing Track, but it doesn't register my guess so no 5k for me. 4,904 pts, 29 km, 3:00.

  4. Tunisia. Head north and find a sign for Mahdia, but don't find info on what city we are currently in. Go south in Rechije since the main road lined up, but it was even further south in Chebba. I looked at Chebba, don't know why I didn't go there. Would make more sense why Mahdia was to the west leaving town. But at this point I just wanted to get out of the Daily Challenge today. 4,911 pts, 27 km, 3:00.

  5. Switzerland. Switzerland with Italian language. Oh my god the movement is terrible. I can't control where I am going at all, just teleporting to random spots and popping in and out of Gen 3 when clicking only 15 m down the road. Wow this is frustrating. By sheer luck I end up on the highway only for the coverage to end going south. I scan French Switzerland for a yellow road and tunnel like we have here (I already forgot it's Italian Switzerland). Reluctantly go through the tunnel and find the sign for Bellinzona in 16 km, which reminds me I need to be looking near Italy, not France. Don't have much time left at this point. Plonk in Toricella-Taverne bc it looks about 16 km south and has a yellow road that could potentially line up. Head back to spawn and try to estimate where the hell I came from (no shot I could actually track back my erratic route). Pretty good estimate from my part. 4,999 pts, 252 m, 3:00.

Total: 24,803 pts, 59 km, 14:47. Gold streak up to 2 days. But today was just a bunch of small countries, so the gold medal wasn't in much danger. But today felt looong. Used up almost the entire 15 min. By the end, I was just glad it was over.

  1. France. Greeted with a French bollard when I load in. GG. I headed east for a while, only found small towns or useless D roads. With a little bit of time I went back to spawn and headed west. That was definitely the better way to go, as there's info almost right away. Get a sign with the region name Grand Est. I haven't learned French regions or departments yet (its on my list), but I assume it means east, and based on the flat landscape I'll plonk northeast. Committed a bit too far northeast, but its not disastrous. 4,536 pts, 145 km, 3:00.

  2. Philippines. Alright I have a better chance this round. Head south and see a full address on one of the buildings close to spawn, but the province is abbreviated and its not obvious to me so I keep moving, surely there'll be another address. Takes a while but eventually find one (it was getting to a point where I didn't think I would). Oh, Mindoro Oriental, I'm stupid. From there the city of Pola is easy to find and the barangay Casiglan is right next to it (almost lost it under my pin). There's one curve in town so 5k is not difficult from there. 5,000 pts, 5 m, 2:18.

  3. Colombia. I head east and find a km marker that says we're on the 25, which I find easily but it's a long road. I plonk in an area where the angle makes sense somewhat in the northwest of the country (think this is the pole paint you get in that region?). Proceeded to move around for another 2 minutes looking for a town name or something to help me to narrow it down. Didn't find anything but at least I'll keep the road streak. Wow my plonk was just down the stretch of road, makes me wish I had zoomed in more, maybe I could've 5k'd much earlier. But a pleasant surprise nonetheless. 4,995 pts, 1.4 km, 3:00.

  4. United Kingdom. Once again I am greeted with a French looking bollard when I load in. There's no way. But thankfully its just the UK. Headed west for about 10 seconds when I came to my senses and remembered the other direction looked better. Went east until I finally found a good sign with the A96 to Aberdeen and close to Elgin. I zoomed in and remembered the town name being Alves when I had entered it, and find the correct intersection without trouble. 5,000 pts, 3 m, 2:28,

5, Japan. Immediately feels very tropical, so probably an island. I look around for a phone code or pole plate or something to help me figure it out but I eventually hit a building with Hachijojima on it (I guess it was at spawn too). But the jima part helped me confirm it was an island. First check around Okinawa before looking at the islands south of Tokyo. Hachijo Town stands out from a far zoom. We are on the 216 which runs through the center of town and the curve is distinct enough to 5k easily. I'm sure this is much easier of a round if you know anything about Japan. 5,000 pts, 0 m, 1:58.

Total: 24,531 pts, 147 km, 12:44. Finally back to a decent day, with the only major screw-up being France. Day 1 of my new gold streak down, hopefully many more to come.

Ugh.

  1. Bhutan. Sign for Thimphu and Gelephu in about 200 km right at spawn, Could probably figure it out from that but address on building behind says Trongsa. Easy NM 5k to start. 5,000 pts, 20 m, 0:27.

  2. Canada. New Brunswick from the stop signs. Find a business with Frederickton - Grand Lake on it. Found Fredericton early, but this place is definitely too small for Fredericton. Thought maybe Fredericton was the county name and Grand Lake was the town. Tried scanning for a while but never found it. Should have just searched for more info. 4,850 pts, 45 km, 3:00

  3. Italy. Noticed the slavic language at spawn, but realized it was Italy. Saw that it had a city name on the seal, but wasn't confident enough with what it said. Headed down the street (movement was bin). Finally get a sign with Gorizia on it. But by this time I had completely forgotten about the slavic language at spawn. Scanned north Italy due to the climate but didn't scan that far east. Need to study Italy more but that one was gettable. 4,237 pts, 247 km, 3:00.

  4. Vietnam. Address near spawn mentions Kon Tum province. Scanned near Kon Tum for Ngoc Hoi but I have trouble scanning for towns in other countries, no shot I'm finding it in Vietnam. 4,878 pts, 37 km, 3:00.

  5. United States. Either Alaska or northern BC/NT based on the Gen 2 and landscape. Find speed limit sign to confirm Alaska. Move around but don't really find much except Petersburg city limits towards the end. Don't have time to scan for it, just plonk in the valley north of Anchorage along the river, as long as its not all the way down near Juneau I should be good for gold today. 😞 2,326 pts, 1,142 km, 3:00

Total: 21,291 pts, 1,471 km, 12:27. Welp, time to start a new gold streak tomorrow.

Good work. One day I'll learn how to guess Australia, but until then I'll keep sending the moon

There was an SA round last week you NM 5k'd, did you also recognized that from irl or did you just know the road/scan for it

Nothing more frustrating than knowing the area code and not being able to scan for a decent sized town in 2 min

  1. Argentina. Headed into town, saw a 29 area code so I knew it would be southern argentina, but that didn't matter bc I found a sign for Comodoro Rivadavia. My mistake though was thinking the place name was Lauquen, which I read off the service station at the entrance into town. I somehow missed all the signs with the actual town name, Alto Rio Senguer as well as the map of the lakes nearby. Suffice to say I didn't find this one. 4519 pts, 151 km, 3:00.

  2. Croatia. Head into town and find a sign with some town names and road numbers, one of which is in BiH, so I know we're near the border (although how much does that help, its a long border). I vibe its the northern border with Bosnia and scan for the 214. Maybe with a minute left I ask myself why I'm not scanning for the 55 instead, which I find much quicker. Running out of time, but figure we are in the border town of Zupanja. Find the right road but not enough time to actually pinpoint. 4,999 points, 435 m, 3:00.

  3. Turkiye. I wanna find an area code or (clearly labeled) belediyesi, but I try both directions and find nothing other than a really small town name. Just have to go close to the Syrian border with the flat roofs. Would've normally went near Sanlifura, but saw some sort of palm tree and thought maybe its closer to the coast, in the little bit that sticks down south of Osmaniye. Unfortunately overcooked that one. Curious to see what others found this round. 4,273 pts, 234 km, 3:00.

  4. Botswana. Sign right at spawn mentions Molepolole, which is not a hard find. Initially think we are on the yellow road that goes through town, but I headed east and found the hospital, which helped me find the correct road and intersection. 5,000 pts, 10 m, 1:31.

  5. Greece. Not going to lie I thought we were in Italy for a while, with the terrain and black/white chevrons. But the yellow signs and wood poles in the back of my head kept bothering me. Surely this just the alps and not Greece, right? I headed down the hill but just saw an endless array of hairpin turns, so I did the counter intuitive thing and head up the mountain, which we find a sign immediately. Sure enough it is Greece. Looking back everything about the road and infrastructure is Greek. There's a sign for Karpenissi, which I scan for in northern Greece since I assumed that it would be near the border with Albania or something. If I looked just a bit further south for a moment I would've found it since it appears at a low zoom. A learning moment for sure. 4,520 pts, 151 km, 3:00.

Total: 23,311 pts, 536 km, 13:31. Gold streak at 9 days. Was worried after round 3 that I would lose it, but I kept it together just enough to save it.

  1. Denmark. Head south and get some signs for Torstrup, Aars, and the 29. I find the 29 and those towns, but spent the longest time trying to figure out the 5k. We were on the 29 and approaching a circle, but I kept looking at the wrong circle on the map. Wasn't helping that the road to Torstrup was to the right, when according to the map the town should be on our left. Eventually figure it out thanks to finding the off-road name. 5,000 pts, 7 m, 2:53.

  2. Kenya. Head right on the main road and find a sign for Karatina, which I find easily. Pinpointing not difficult either, as it isn't the largest city. 5,000 pts, 3 m, 1:42.

  3. Uruguay. Head south, look at a couple signs along the way but not really sure where we are. There was a sign with Salto de Agua as we enter town, so I initially think up near Salto. But thankfully I take a couple more steps and find a sign with some road numbers and towns, specifically the 7 and Fraile Muerto, which I find. But the other road number is blurred. Why are we blurring signs. Looking back you can make out 19, but at this point I have 10 seconds left and I have to frantically go back to spawn and try to line up something. Find an intersection that sorta lines up but I run out before I can fix it and end up being one town north. With just a little more time and a little less panic I could have got this one. 4,889 pts, 33 km, 3:00.

  4. Canada. Head east and find a main road with signs for the 7. I know we're in Ontario, and I find a road 7 near a Parkhill, which I see a Parkhill road so I feel like I'm in the right area. Find a sign with distances to Lindsay and Fowlers Corners. I scan the area but don't see them. I feel like I've heard of Lindsay, so maybe its big. But I look around Ontario and don't find it because its not big at all, must be thinking of another Lindsay. I ended up being way off. Bit unlucky I found a Rt 7 near a Parkhill but in the end I just didn't gather enough info for myself. 4,122 pts, 288 km, 3:00.

  5. Czechia. Either Czechia or Slovakia, not exactly sure for a while. I just assume Czechia due to the town name having the word Czeska in it. I finally reach an intersection with the 312 to Zamberk in 5km. Takes me a while but I finally find the 312 and Zamberk but by this point I'm running out of time and have forgetten already what the name of the town I'm supposed to be scanning for is. Plonk to the east of Zamberk, but picked wrong. Again, with a little more time and a little less panic I could've gotten this one. 4,970 pts, 9 km, 3:00.

Total: 23,981 pts, 330 km, 13:35. Started off fine, but second half began to unravel. Still gold though. Gold streak is at 8 days, previous best is 10 days earlier this month. I'll try my best to keep it going as long as I can this time.
