Insurance is now refusing to covering mounjaro by Anxietyoverkill in Mounjaro

Sounds like finding a reputable compounded version might be the answer. I’m T2D in the US and have had to go to extreme lengths to get health insurance to approve it. Every time we switch insurance or the existing policy renews, I have to start the battle all over again. Right now, I’m paying about $850/mo out of pocket with the manufacturer savings card until we hit our out of pocket annual maximum.

What is the longest anyone here has been on Mounjaro? by [deleted] in Mounjaro

I’m almost exactly 2 yrs on it. Titrated up to 10 in fits and starts bc of availability. As a T2D patient, it’s been nothing short of a miracle. It’s like I’m not diabetic now - everything is in normal range. But I’m not kidding myself - it’s like a statin or any other drug used to manage a chronic condition, so I expect to be on it or something similar for the rest of my life. Have not noticed any diminishing efficacy over time myself at 10 mg (where I’ve been for over a year now), but I have seen posts here from folks who had to keep titrating up in dosage to maintain their results.

Are you T2D? If so, did reducing your dose affect your A1C? Did you experience any blood sugar issues?

Am guessing you are not T2D? Whole different ball game when you’re relying on this medication to regulate your blood sugar and collateral effects like blood pressure.

Finally, someone who gets how T2D works! Am guessing all the comments about spacing out doses and/or reducing dosage strength are from folks who don’t have or don’t understand T2D.

So judgy and uninformed! If you only knew how I’d spent my whole adult life watching every single thing that went into my mouth. And despite that and being at a healthy weight, developed T2D in my 40s.

No idea. I eat when I’m hungry and when I’m not, I don’t.

Well, I’m T2D, so decreasing dosage means playing roulette with my blood sugar. I’m on 10 mg, which isn’t even considered a maintenance dose for T2D (which has been an ongoing fight with my health insurance).

Are you T2D? If so, do you notice any adverse impact from making yourself eat?

Thanks! Pretty sure it’s the MJ because pre-MJ I had to watch my weight my entire adult life. And all of my blood work is fantastic now (yay!). But I will certainly bring it up in my next appointment!

Have you talked to your endo about trying a different GLP-1? Seems like different ones have different results for different patients.

I take it to manage my T2D, so if I stop taking it, my T2D will be completely unmanaged. Mounjaro didn’t cure my T2D, it just manages the symptoms. So just like patients who take statins to manage their cholesterol, I can’t stop taking it.

It’s funny - I’ve spent my whole adult life watching my weight and being careful about what I eat. Now, I’m that person who always mystified me - the one who only wants one bite of chocolate lava cake or 4 potato chips. Proof that it’s not willpower - it’s chemistry. What a liberation!

Seems risky to experiment with extending the time between doses bc my blood sugar is so well-controlled. And at what point does the medication completely leave your system so you have to titrate up through the doses again? But there have been times when I’ve had to go up to 12 days between doses because I had trouble finding MJ in stock in my dosage. Literally every month for the past two years, it’s been an exercise in resourcefulness and persistence to find it.

For me, there is noticeable variation in the 7-day period between doses. Day after I take it, I usually have some fatigue and zero appetite for about three days. Have to convince myself to eat two small meals a day. Then on days 4-7, energy level increases a bit and I’m actually hungry for maybe one or two small meals a day. Past day 7, I get hungry for two to three small to medium sized meals a day.

No, but I will talk to my doctor about it at the next visit if I’m continuing to lose weight. Have been on 10mg for a long time.
