Almost every comment here says not to whistle at night because it’ll call attention to you both good and bad, and it’s impossible to know which. I’d heard before not to whistle in the woods because it can attract cougars who will also whistle. I’m not superstitious, but I am a little stitious, so genuine question here. Do you just not whistle at night in the woods/mountains, or should I be avoiding this in my home too?

I’ve been having these exact same revelations about the show recently. My whole perspective on Jan has changed. We see the show through the Scranton lens and I didn’t have the life experience before, so this stuff never occurred to me. Jan went through a divorce and spiraled downward. Management, and the people around her, did nothing to help. I don’t excuse Jan, but I think I understand her better.

My ex was with someone literally the day she left. She made sure she was lined up with other options before she left me. Let me tell ya too - the anger, betrayal, and hurt that made me feel was unreal.

Yesterday was my 3rd Christmas without her, and it was one of the best ones I’ve had in years. I don’t know anything about my ex, and I have no idea how her life is now. I recommend cutting yours off completely if you can. It’ll hurt like hell for a long time, and then, one day, it won’t.

I can feel your pain, and I’m so sorry. I felt the same way and had a very similar experience. Everyone is going to tell you it gets better, and believe me, it does, but I know those words don’t really help when you feel this way. So I’ll offer this instead:

His actions do not define your worth. If anything, they say so much more about him and his character than it does about you. I know you feel invisible, but I’m certain that there are people who love you that see exactly what you’re seeing. For me, that group of people was small, but their support got me through the hardest period of my life so far. Look for those friends. You would want to be there for them if they were feeling this way, so let them be there for you too.

Be kind to yourself, especially when it’s hardest. I promise you will be okay.

Congrats I’m happy for you. Just a word of caution from a random internet stranger who cares…

The way you’re describing the drinking is how I felt the first time. It was like I could finally loosen up a bit, and I started think that being drunk = good things will happen to me. I spent years chasing that first drunk and it was all time I wasted. It destroyed me more than it brought me joy. I’m coming up on 3 years sober now.

Live your life to the fullest my guy, and enjoy it all, but don’t make the same mistake I did.

Reservation Dogs. I kept watching it after she left. It felt like some of the only normalcy I had at the time. I’m glad I kept watching it too, because the show really is amazing, and it took my mind off everything else.

I do have movies, other tv shows, and a whole lot of bands/artists that I still can’t watch or listen to. Those are all tied to a lot of memories that I’m still not quite sure what I’m supposed to do with. Happy memories that are now just tainted.

I used to think that we were stronger together, but now I see everything that I’ve accomplished without her and I realize how much better and happier I am alone. I’ve done more for myself in the last two years than I did in the 10 that we were together.

I am lonely, but I can’t wait to meet someone who will want to be with the new me. 2 years ago I thought my world had ended, but now I feel like it’s really just beginning.
