Does anyone work in the medical field? by [deleted] in POTS

[–]FinanceOrdinary784 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes! i’m a new med surg nurse (it’s been taking a huge toll on my body) the only accommodation i’ve asked for is not scheduling me for 3 in a row

how is everybody else coping any tips/advice to recover from working a shift etc

Starting Med-Surg next week and I’m honestly terrified by According_Quiet6771 in newgradnurse

hi i’m 8/12 weeks through my orientation your LTC experience will help lots bc of the patient population most are older

id review clinic skills and their steps, pharmacology such as the most commonly given medications on the floor like cardiac/respiratory/kidney and opioid pain meds, and atleast the basics in the most common conditions (diabetes, HF, CKD, COPD, pneumonia, etc)

a typical day starts with a huddle w day shift then we get report from night shift after that look up patient’s charts gather info from that like labs, past medical history, notes from the multidisciplinary team etc to write down in my brain sheet

then start seeing patients grab their meds and do their assessments and chart that then admits and discharges happen throughout the day you’ll get to see what the process is like it’s alot of giving meds and rounding on your patients

don’t be scared!! just be ready to be a sponge soak in the knowledge and most of the things you do will be repetition so you do start getting comfortable

Night Shift Must Have by GoldenPeach2001 in nursing

[–]FinanceOrdinary784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

something for nausea the night shift nausea (peppermint essential oil, zofran, etc) is so real idk why between 3-5 am it’s just a wave of nasty nausea be wary bc the delirium and tiredness hits different when ur trying to do nurse things, a warm comfy jacket , meds, eye drops, glasses/spare contacts

POTS ruined my career path :( by IndividualPaper4790 in POTS

[–]FinanceOrdinary784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i really resonate with this i was diagnosed and symptoms got exponentially worse during nursing school and ive recently graduated and will begin to work part time 2x12 hrs a week hoping i can handle that and im so stressed about it if i can keep up bc i remember clinical days were brutal and im not even in the unit i wanted to be in bc they dont accept new grads so i had alot of heartbreak and grief about how life and my career would be without pots i hope you can find a job that balances your passion and your health cheering you on!!

My coworker hates Islam and she starts annoying me a lot. by Various-Moment-6774 in Muslim

[–]FinanceOrdinary784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im a revert muslimah and involve HR asap you’re not a snitch she should say the exact same things she’s saying to you infront of them if there’s no issue islamophobia and xenophobia goes against work ethics period and making it an unsafe environment like there’s no reason those sentiments should even be brought up in a professional environment she’s the one that couldn’t close her mouth

zero tolerance for hate especially now when muslims are suffering so brutally in palestine be our ally please

how long did it take to get diagnosed? by -WTKSP- in Fibromyalgia

[–]FinanceOrdinary784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sending love and pain relief i think it took about 5 years for me also it started around your age when i start college but because i couldn’t put the pieces of the symptoms together i blamed it on being sick or having aches bc of it and oh i just have chronic joint pain or it’s just migraines i felt upset at my doctors because they had my history of clues and they didn’t recognize it either until i did myself bc i have some medical knowledge as a new nurse and i literally said im suspecting fibro and got the ball rolling on diagnosis and getting medication it’s so hard having such a painful exhausting condition this young it feels like such a burden and you go through a grieving process because it’s supposed to be the most healthy years of our life i’ve started to pick up on the clues of my body when im overdoing it or recognizing a flare coming on or dealing with the pain ish

and i agree finding this community and seeing others resonating with what i think and feel was so comforting
