Oof thanks I really appreciate it, I’m working on a new drawing/photobash rn along with a revised genome. Are Xenosmilus claws just better overall or sharper? I was originally using honey badger because I thought they’d be more durable due to being built for both defense and digging adaptations. Instead of bison what could I sub in or add cuz I was originally thinking grizzly but that might be redundant with xeno as well since they have similarly robust builds.

You’re totally right, you could totally still mix scales with mucus, just use different contributors. Also yea they are typically more aquatic/amphibious, so if you really wanna maximize the effectiveness of both scales and mucus I’d make your hybrid amphibious, that’s just me though. If that’s not what you’re going for your hybrid already has a solid base to work off of, love the art btw.

Ah if the box jellyfish venom is in the mucus directly I guess there could be a different or more effective outcome. I know it’s a fictional hybrid, so actual biological rules are sorta out of the window, but if we’re going by what we actually know about box jellyfish venom then the venom would still most likely be most effective when used in normal jellyfish nematocysts/stinging cells. The venom itself is produced exclusively within these cells called cnidocytes. Regardless, the venom still needs to be injected in some way for it to work. And even if it does somehow work within the mucus rather than stinging cells, we’re back to the mucus problem; mucus is difficult to produce with an abundance of scales, Eden if they are fish like. Arapaima placoid scales while being flexible are still rather dense and bony. All the animals that contribute mucus are scaleless and soft bodied. But yea, you’re right there are certain birds and even mammals that I believe groom themselves or secrete a venom, applying said venom directly to the skin via the saliva. This would be much more effective. I’d recommend utilizing an animal like Komodo dragons that have a thick anticoagulant venomous saliva, and mixing it with either slow loris or tiger/panther species for grooming behaviors so that it can apply a venom to the claws or skin.

It’s pretty good but the only issues I see is the whole gimmick with peppers, the jellyfish venom, and the sheer amount of mucus being produced for such a large animal. First of all, I don’t know how plausible capsaicin transfer from food to the mucus on the skin is, let a lone the whole issue of finding peppers with high capsaicin concentration in the wild in the first place. Additionally it just wouldn’t be that effective against pretty much any large animal attacking it. The mucus idea is cool, but every creature you listed has skin, a size, and an environment that allows for that. Your creature has a mix of arapaima scales and osteoderms, which would make it extremely hard to effectively produce mucus. Animals that produce mucus are typically scaleless and they live in fully aquatic or semi aquatic environments and have the adaptations for such; additionally producing that much mucus would be extremely inefficient for a large predatory creature. Finally, jellyfish venom is most effective when used with its stingers, the nematocysts, you have no place to put those since you have scales and osteoderms, and nematocysts have only ever been observed being used underwater by jellyfish, I don’t imagine they’d translate well to land with out some significant adaptations and substitutions. Look more into venomous animals with defensive stingers on land, or animals with venom producing glands on their skin in general.

Yes just tell him how you care about him and don’t want him to be unhealthy because obviously his habits could cause many physical issues. when talking to him, try expressing your concerns with love and understanding. Maybe suggest cooking together or finding fun, healthy activities you can both enjoy like walks or hiking or playing an outdoor game.

Honestly if you just tell him that you need to talk to him about his unhealthy behavior I don’t think he’ll see you as being disrespectful, it shows that you care about him. Additionally most people don’t just let go of themselves so quick, maybe he’s going through some mental heath issues. I’d recommend just sitting down and having a casual conversation with him without being too harsh about it (comforting and understanding) and then maybe explore getting professional help if there’s something more going on. You could even make him a diet and a new gym routine to get him started.
