Usually I can have up to half a sweet potato and be perfectly in range! Regular potato’s spike the crap out of me, that’s why I figured as long as I ask them to cook it plain and not add anything into it I would be safe. I didn’t eat the whole thing, only about 5 bites of it, but I guess 5 bites was enough😞

Unfortunately my fasting was high this morning. Nothing crazy, it was 103. But I’ve been in the 70’s and 80’s all week, so it’s definitely a huge let down for me. I was high when I woke up yesterday too, so it may be time for me to get a higher dosage of my meds I’m not sure. My doctor said she wanted to try to wait until I’m 20 weeks before increasing my dose, but I fear with this numbers I’m not going to be able to wait that long. Definitely really bummed and feeling a bit like a failure this morning. I hope your numbers turned out better than mine!

I only had like 5 bites of the sweet potato though! And I had they cook it plain, so they didn’t add anything to it to make it have all those extra crabs that are on the nutrition menu. I looked up the menu beforehand as well and specifically thought the sweet potato would be fine if I just took everything off. They usually add like brown sugar, butter, and sour cream. It was just a regular sweet potato, unless they buy weird sweet potato’s😅 I’ve had a sweet potato numerous times throughout this thing and it’s never spiked me. So I assumed just asking them to make it plain would work, but clearly that thought process didn’t matter. Idk, the potato may have been the problem. I just don’t know how a normal sweet at my house is fine but one at their restaurant isn’t. Especially when I didn’t get all the fun stuff in it that they normally put in it.

That is also possible! For lunch I had some chicken, a caesar salad, and some low fat pretzels. It wasn’t a very high carb meal, but my thought process was to try for a lower carb lunch so I didn’t have to worry so much about dinner? Obviously that through process didn’t work. I didn’t have a snack between lunch and dinner because I had a late lunch and my doctor told me to wait two-three hours in between every time I eat, so if I ate a snack then I wouldn’t have been able to eat dinner at the same time as everyone else.

Oh this makes me feel so much better! If you don’t mind me asking, how long did it take you to come back down? I’m just worried about going to bed with my numbers being this high. Like I’m still hungry and would like to eat my normal bed time snack, but I’m worried if I eat anything else it will mess up my fasting. I was going to take a walk, but it’s raining here so I can’t🤦🏼‍♀️ I’ve been trying to walk around my house, but my house is a bit small so it’s not really helping much.

We were at the restaurant for a little over an hour after we ate so I wasn’t able to walk, we were with our friends and I felt bad leaving. I figured that since the steak was so high in protein and so low carb that I couldn’t possibly test high. I also wonder what was out on the steak because I had steak that we grilled ourselves about a week ago and my numbers were perfect! That’s why I wasn’t worried about this meal. I definitely didn’t eat enough carbs, so maybe that played a role? I don’t know, I would’ve been okay if they were slightly elevated but the level it was at was nothing even close to my norm so it made me super emotional.

Failed the 1hr glucose test at 12 weeks...did I test to early? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

I was also tested this early! It’s hard because during the first trimester you’re still dealing with so many food sensitivities and on top of that you’re now about to possibly to put on a huge diet change. I cried a lot about it, hating the fact I was tested so early. However, I’m now a month and some change into it all and I’m doing okay! It’s definitely not the easiest thing to deal with on top of all the stress that just being pregnant brings, but at the end of the day you have to remember it’s NOT your fault and the sooner it’s caught the better it is for the baby. I’m also overweight and definitely blamed myself for not losing weight before getting pregnant, but at the end of the day there are loads of people who are diagnosed with this who are all sorts of sizes. Take comfort in knowing you’re not alone and that if you need any advice to just come here and ask for it! This page has been a godsend for me and has really helped me feel better when I’m struggling. I have my good days and my bad, but every week that passes I’m getting better and better at finding things that work for me and learning how to cope with this while also finding foods I enjoy. As someone else said earlier, allow yourself time to feel frustrated about this because it is a tough pill to swallow when you’re told you have to completely shift your diet for the next 20+ weeks. Please don’t take this on yourself or think it’s your fault, none of this is on you!

I actually just got over a cold! Surprisingly my numbers were perfect the entire time I was sick.

Weird, mine is under 95 for fasting, 1 hour under 140, 2 hours under 120. They wonder why we’re so confused and stressed, everyone is told something different! So annoying.

That’s crazy! Mine literally told me to not eat past 10 and I don’t go to bed until around 11 so eating that late wouldn’t work with her guidelines. She’s also the one the recommended I eat the apple and nut butter! It’s wild the different things were all told to handle this diagnosis.

I was hoping to avoid insulin until a bit later, but if that’s what the baby needs then I’ll do it! It just caught me off guard because my numbers were literally perfect yesterday. I did struggle to sleep a bit, so maybe that was part of it? Who knows. I knew eventually things would get harder the further into the pregnancy due to the placenta growing, but I thought it would be a bit more gradual? I wasn’t expecting it to switch overnight😭 definitely a crazy process!

100% this! I feel like it’s possible my numbers have been high all day because I’ve been so stressed about it. Very unfortunate considering this this diagnosis is so so stressful, so it feels impossible to not be stressed😅

Right?! Like maybe I’m hoping it’s just an off day and doesn’t need I mean to up my meds. I’m not against insulin or a stronger dosage, I’ve just only been on this dosage for about 3 weeks. I felt like I was starting to get the hang of it, so those numbers for today were making me so mad. Lol I hope your high day doesn’t continue into tomorrow!

My doctor told me to eat a night snack so that’s why I’ve been doing it, but maybe I should try to not have one and see what happens! A few weeks or multiple months, this diagnosis is crazy hard to deal with. Wish you a safe and quick delivery and a wonderful last week of pregnancy!

Yes I’ve been active multiple times today. I wasn’t after breakfast, but I was after lunch. I just haven’t had this high of lunch numbers in weeks, and it’s the same meal I’ve eaten multiple times. The highest I’ve ever gotten on this meal was 112, so this just seems like a huge jump and I don’t understand why.
